Damn, Ricky. Your guitar segments starting around 2:15 were phenomenal. You're so damn talented. Also wanted to say that I first came to your channel for the reviews, but I absolutely love the direction you've gone in recently, incorporating more storytelling.
My Lauten Audio mics have been my BEST MIC PURCHASES bar none... they simply deliver exceptional audio quality for extremely competitive pricing. Love the vid, bruh...
As always - thoughtful and compelling stuff. I am happy to see that you are holding true to yourself and making content about what to do with the microphones after one buys them. As an owner of four of your recommended mics (in the description), most of the time (more with my voice than the clarinet) I am just fooling around for my own enjoyment. Even with the clarinet, the difference maker seems to be more about placement than which mic I am actually using. I feel like I can make the 57 and the Lewitt 440 sound basically the same in the DAW despite the fact that what gets initially captured is quite different. Anyway - looking forward to what you make next
@@AudioHaze I have a question about my workflow...if you don't want to take the time to teach me in response - I understand that better than you would imagine....however if you do I would love your opinion. When I make videos I use two mics - one for my voice and one for the clarinet. I then edit the file to the appropriate one at the appropriate time. I purchased an NT1 5th gen recently. Would I get be able to get similar results recording in 32 bit float with the mic positioned to pick up both my voice and clarinet? Would I spend just as much time editing in this situation? I know I can just try it...but your expert opinion may save me some time in the process and eliminate what would certainly be boneheaded ideas along the way.
Can you please help me choose which mic to buy for my home studio to play classical trumpet and sing latin jazz: AKG C214 or LA 220? If you had some other suggestions please let me know! Thank You very much!
The LS 208 and 308 are fantastic on drums. The 308 is great on toms, and I really like the 208 on brass snare drums. I like Austrian Audio, and I've tried to like the OC16 but it's mid range honky sound kills me. I can't use it. It sounds like like an AT2020 with a sinus infection.
To be fair in this video I myself sounded like an AT2020 with a sinus infection haha, but thanks for sharing! Always great to have different opinions in the comments
119 to 289 is budget to you ?? Dang so what is my 60 Samson q2u then? The super poor low low budget microphone ? 😂 I’m just playing. I like your videos I subscribed after just watching 2 of them. I wanted to ask you what’s your opinion. On se electronics v7 and the telefunken m80? I’m looking for a mic in those price ranges that works for studio and stage. Telefunken claims the m80 can do this but reviews seem mixed. And yeah I would use a condenser but room treatment not good enough it’s treated some but not entirely. That’s why I like super cardiod microphones for blocking out around noise
Thank you very much for your knowlage and ironic sense of humor. You are the best! You are my teacher, you are my master :D It is a pure pleaseure to watch your fillms. Waiting for money to buy Lauten LS 208 and Shure SM57 and start my bedroom studio.
I stan my LA 220 and I'm wondered why it doesn't get more love? I have a bass baritone singing range and it captures the low in my voice with punch and clarity that smokes a bunch of mics I matched up against it including the AKG C214, Elecro Voice RE-320, SenheiserMK4, Stellar X2 which was a close 2nd for me on my voice, Warm Audio AW 414, and Aston Spirit. I wouldn't trade my LA 220 for anything except for maybe a more expensive Lauten like the Clarion
I'm really curious how this microphone ls-308 will sound with trumpet when usually trumpeters want to get some more dark, smooth sound than this bright sound comming form bell.
I personally prefer the 990 over any of those choices! It really depends on your voice though, and if you don’t have any treatment in your room a 57 will probably suite you better than any of those
ive been obsessed with finding dark mics.. its so much better to me, I would rather add my own brighting, like Saturation and EQ, You should a video with all the darkest mics ha, maybe vintage too
@@LautenAudio what better response from the people themselves 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Thank you. Ok so my main concern regarding the 308 is the fact they are condensers but I hear the polar patterns are really that focused that they really really are better than some of the other dynamics most engineers use.
I have tried it on the underside of a snare, and thus far the most useful and pleasing sound compared to others I have used. Only used a pair of overheads, kick and the 308 for snare, full rich sounding kit!... also a traditional hand drum, it sounds like there is a drum in the room when played back through the speakers.... excellent for these applications and some others, but some sources not so exciting, like any mic has its place, I have found the 308 is very obvious when it is or isnt, not so much mid-ground... hope that helps!
Meh. After reviewing so many good microphones, the narrator has convinced me what microphone I use has little or no bearing on one's MESSAGE. Serious "influencers" do not obsess over what microphone they use. Instead, they focus on their MESSAGE, discussing important, substantial and significant social, health, business, political and other issues. Given reasonably good mic technique, the particular microphone will have little or no impact on the message. Parenthetically, I am unimpressed by narrators with low self esteem evidenced by poor grooming and hygeine. Yeah, I know the curly lock to the side is intentional. But, being a slob does not exactly convey convey technical expertise and credibility. And that is just MY take. Your mileage may vary. Meh. I will move on to more important matters. JT
I love cheap mics. I’ve got loads of them! I look at it this way, I can have one really expensive mic or lots of cheaper ones that give me options. Honestly, I think super expensive mics are over rated anyway. By the time you add Eq and processing to a recording, there’s not much left of the original signal anyway! Oh, and who was that playing guitar, it was awesome?
Nice! Yeah the flexibility of what you can do with a bunch of cheap mics is more valuable in a band setting for sure. I was able to record my bands whole ep a while back just with a bunch of junk lol and that was me! Glad you liked the playing :)
Yeah I get that! Budget means different things for different people, to me around $400 is sort of the cap on a "low end" mic, but even that is sort of creeping into midrange territory
@@AudioHaze i wasn't a fan of the podmic for a long time until I started using it and then I hated it for a bit as I had braces and it became annoying to use it to edit because my voice changed with the braces and now that the braces are off I couldn't love it more

The LA-220 is such a good mic. I find myself reaching for it before more expensive mics a lot. Lauten is doing it right!
Lauten seems to be killing it. I am really happy with my LS-208 so far. Great video, yet again man. :)

Yes! Recording Studio Loser talked about the Lauten and mentioned how amazing they sound on toms.
Yeah really crazy mic! Great for a lot of instruments and high spa sound sources, very weird on spoken word lol

The Lauten Audio LA-220 is on sale right now, fyi. I might try one.
Totally agree about the smaller companies, they're crushing it right now. Lots of hidden gems out there.
GTZ is one of the gem..
The SM-57 is still king of budget mics!
Totally agreed :)
The original Neat Worker bee and king bee were up there with the 57 that one year lol when they were both sub 100 dollars
SM 57 is dynamic mic. I think NTI gen 4 is king of budget cms. GTZ 87 is baat budget clone CM. That is my findings.

It's "budget" compared to the thousands of dollars you might have to spend on a mic from one of those big legacy brands.
