We have an electric supply house that is open with staff mo-fri 7-16 and outside that it's a self service. You of course have to register in advance and get an access card to use that service. And there are CCTV all over that place
I noticed a lot of frozen waterdrops on the ceiling in the walk-in freezer. It usely indicates that the defrost-end temperature setpoint is to high. The heating elements will stay on way to long resulting in boiling/steaming the water in the evaporating coil. The steam wil condensate again on the ceiling. A bad functioning drain is also an extra cause of to much water remaining in the drainpan. Greeting from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Drops Usually means a too high Defrost-endtemperature. it could also be that the dripping time (time after defrost before the metering device starts opening up) is a bit too long. or if its not regulated on End-temperature it could be that the End-time is too long. other thing could be too many defrost cycles per day. Defrost is individual for every location and takes time. sometimes its really tedious to fine-tune. Greetings from Switzerland😊
I always replace those with EC5408E motors and then use a 5140C fan blade set. Still the same equivalent "wattage" range, but a lot lower cost motor. Just have to cut the plug as someone else said. Thank you for the always great videos!

in Sweden we also have 24/7. There you enter with, for example, a mobile phone with personal identification as security. So no one needs to come to the location to open. Some companies have through their app and personal identification we have in the phones.
You are absolutely right. but as we all know, a lot of companies that will do “preventative maintenance” schedules don’t do a single thing out side of spraying the coil and changing the filters. The customer would be lucky if they even tightened the belts up. On exhaust fans, RTUs, walk in, reach ins, etc. I know guys that wouldn’t check a single thing if a unit was making temp. I do understand why some restaurants pass on setting up a PM schedule. They can afford it and there is more work for the real refrigeration techs. But so frustrating getting a call at 4 on a Saturday with a walk in freezer.

That’s why I installed HEATCRAFT equipment when I have the choice of . Those Russel motors are dumb. Those 3 motors you replaced plus service call etc is the price of a new coil or close to it

I worked out in our OC location for over a year up until recently, and had no idea that there was an Allied in Tustin. None of my coworkers there even mentioned it. I looked it up, it’s not far from the Trane Supply on Redhill, which I’ve been to a bunch of times.

Better man than me... They would have gotten 2 pieces of cardboard over those dead motors and I'd see them monday. If it was a good customer I would of moved the working motor to the middle and de iced it 😂
I’ve had to replace two of those motors. Opened up the old ones both had obvious moisture damage. If it’s a real problem I wonder if a film of silicone around that seam would help them last longer, one looked like the water came in through the wire hole but it had been so long since I replaced it couldn’t tell you witch way it was mounted.
There in Europe we use motor starters on compressors, so in the case of single phasing, the compressor shuts off, instead of waiting for a thermal overload in the compressor, and risking of burning up the compressor.
I really like your videos when you’re cleaning a coil. It’s my zen spot. Nothing better looking then a clean coil rather it is a condensor or evaporator. Hopefully you’re doing well. Thanks for another good video.
What is a 'regular maintenance schedule' on average for companies like this or ones with say one or two walk-in freezers, maybe stove/cook top air vents and what not? When you negotiate as a maintenance schedule with a company, would you say you do a job for X amount of dollars which would be inspection and any cleaning/belt maintenance every 4 months or something? Or is it more of a (every refrigeration unit is once every 2 months, every oven vent would be once every 5 months)? Just curious as to why people don't have maintenance schedules with some contractor. You seem to come across a lot of companies that don't do it, and when it fails they get massive bills that may exceed what they may have spend on the maintenance itself.
Why isnt it common to use motor-starter contacters with thermal block on them for compressors? so it can lock itself out incase it single-phases and prevent the compressor from burning out.
I work for United Refrigeration. We do have a replacement that is less expensive, that we buy from the mfg, but nothing "generic" to replace it as of this time.
Yeah a few people have reached out and gave me the part number, it’s literally the same motor but 400 dollars cheaper… it’s still gonna fail in a year or so but at least it’s cheaper

Wish more places would take maintenance more seriously...the fan motors were legit...and so was opening up the supply house. Kinda sucks to have to do maintenance related things on weekends. As an owner I'm sure it's easy money....as a tech...its irritating to have to leave home to wash coils. Chris is someone who understands it from both angles. We have started replacing contactors with SSR's. Not in everything, but much more frequently.
I have been using the rescue ecm motors from RSD. I cut off the 2 prong plug and wire it in without the relay. Been working for me on emergency calls, those oem ecm motors are just insanely expensive

Hola, Russell es la marca de la evaporada no de los motores. OEM, significa original equipment manufacturer y PSC significa Permanent Split Capacitor, ese es un motor que neccisitas un capacidor
OMG, that coil wasn't working at all. People don't realize that heat dissipation doesn't work thru dirt. It's a metal to air process like a heat sink. But with fans.
Hey Chris. So besides the obvious, voltage, watts does really matter when it comes to replacing a motor? I’m assuming you didn’t want to go down in watts using an after market motor.
I'm in telco/ISP land, not HVAC, but one of ours charges $175 to open the supply house and the other charges a 30% fee, on top of only providing after-hours out of one warehouse that's at least a 2 hour drive away.
@@HVACRVIDEOS we got to the point in South Florida where we require it for warranty purposes. Losing phases, etc because of the poor quality of utilities created the issue and after getting burned ourselves, we now require it on new /retro systems or if we pick up a new customer for PM contract. It was surprising at the amount of issues the monitoring caught. Excellent video... We don't feel so bad here seeing you battle your heat as well. We laughed at the "but it's s dry heat". It's frigging hot.

I have also found that too many defrost cycles will cause the fan shrouds to ice and droplets on the ceiling around the evaporator.
That is something I've run across as well in the past.

@@DANGERTIM112 there are also phase protection relays which will cut power if all the phases are not there.
A lot of these compressors seem to have thermal overload built in, that usually negates a proper motor starter.

I put a 16 or 25 watt ccw Unit bearing watt motor

Due to our nasty power grid it is something I recommend when possible
