Great work. Thanks for sharing the video and figuring it out. Been wanting a 4” lift and the guys at Prius off-road wouldn’t even talk about how it could be accomplished. Super grateful for your content.
Thanks, I’m glad it helped!
Compressing the spring you can use bailing wire to hold the compression take the compression tools off place in the strut in the strut area. . Cut the wire once in the car to release the energy.
that is a great idea
@@soilliam Neighbor across the street had his truck sitting up for a month I asked why he said couldn't get the compression tools out when he put the struts in. I came up with this idea he was driving that day. My thanks they turned on me. No good deed goes unpunished.
@@soilliamregarding the transmission oil cooler... I couldn't find were I asked you originally but here's what I learned from a Toyota tech and a hypermiler that's owned a gen 2 since new
The eCVT trans doesn't have any lines that directly connect to the radiator..
The inverter indirectly cools the trans by having its lines next to each other
The methods recommended... Replace the GEN2 radiator with one from a gen3 inverter coolant radiator and/or place an auxiliary fan next to the inverter radiator for improved airflow
My though are possible adding another small radiator inline with the OEM inverter coolant radiator.. add a fan.. the add an engine oil cooler
Please let me know your thoughts
@@GEAUXFRUGALthank you for sharing the bailing wire suggestion
@@camposvazquez My neighbor could not drive his truck it was parked wheel off over a month. I asked what the issue was he couldn't figure out this problem. I went for some bailing wire and had him on the road inside an hour.
lol people laugh but I did a lot of hauling heavy loads with my Prius as well for years. It tows really really well! I just used some of those twist lock coil spring spacers to keep mine from sagging. Worked out great! Strange but it also made the ride much smoother.
prius towing is goated. I saw those spacers when i was researching and was a little skeptical., good to know they actually work
Great video! Love your content and your sense of humour🌭 Got the "Offroad Prius" lift kit but I think it only got lifted around 2 inch. Cool to see that you can make it 4 inches. Cheers brother from a Springi West Coast Sweden🌲🏡🌞!
Cheers, thanks for watching stay warm up there :)
your lifted pirus looks awesome. thakns for sharing this with us.
happy to share, thank you!
@@soilliam any problem after the lift? ie: cv boot? thank you !
I would recommend upgrading the sway bars, I did it with my 04 Prius and it made a huge improvement. Also the wheels from the Toyota gt 86 fit the Prius I have some on mine and am running 215/45R17 so if you want bigger wheels you can grab some used ones and easily fit some 225/55R17. Great video btw 👍
Great to know, and thank you
welcome to the lifted pri club bro !
thanks bro might have to get like you and get those grabbers now
I lifted the rear on my gen 3 Prius. 😊
very nice
Great video 😮
The snapped bolt probably wasn't your fault, those cheap ebay kits just have really bad quality bolts. I have a similar kit in mine and also recently had the problem of a pothole bending my strut mounts because the plastic spacers don't spread the load properly across the whole top hat like the factory struts or a quality lift kit does. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buy those cheap plastic kits for these 2 reasons, the Prius Offroad ones are better in every way
Yo i saw your post about that on fb thanks for the info. that's the first i've seen someone have problems with the plastic spacers, but i will stay woke. If i have any problems i will share as well
@@soilliam it might seem like a lot of trouble to remove the sub-par bolts but it seems like it makes sense to replace them with a with a higher quality bolt... Plus you could justify with the quality content of a new video 😊 (Prius off-road seem like nice folks anyway and I bet they would sell some high-quality bolts).
KILLER VIDEO AND EDITING ON THIS ONE 👏👏👏 let me know if you are near Greenville South Carolina or Asheville North Carolina ~ have a place you can park
@@GABRIEL_CRAFT I'll definitely consider upgrading next time I have to replace something in the area but for now gonna see how these ride. thank you for the kind words & will hit your line if I'm in that area!
@@soilliam yeah I've had them in for a couple of years now with no other problems, but it only takes one mistake (or a big pothole in my case) to change that, the bolts were always a bit sus for me but I never got around to changing them, seeing yours snap just tightening it up is a bit of a worry
@@MinimaDomumall the commebts have been very helpful... I plan on lifting my prius with the recommenced prius iff road kit and a rear spring upgrade like liam did.. my question is upgrading the tires to a larger size ..is there a way to adjust the tachometer to relect the correct speed?
Thanks for the video! Love it! I've got a 2007 Prius I added a +1.5" spacer from Prius Offroad and +1.75" in the rear from a set of springs from valley spring works. When I was installing the rear axle with the spacer and spring, I was running into a clearance issue with the hydraulic brake lines. What did you do about those? Did you remove them from the mount and leave them hanging? Thanks!
I had to remove them from their mount during installation while the car was jacked up and the axle was hanging freely, but I reconnected them after I installed the strut and jacked it up a little bit. I hope that helps
@@soilliam oh, interesting. That's helpful. Makes sense the extra space is only needed when the struts are uncompressed. Great! Thank you!
Dude, you are brilliant!
Thanks brother jerry
Congrats on getting the kit. Safe travels
thank you J D
😮Great Video 😮
thank you dale
Great work!
lol 😂 dude that’s awesome. How’s the gas mileage? Is it worse or the same? I was thinking about doing this to my Prius as well.
ha thank you. Honestly, no significant change in mpg. Maybe a few mpgs less, but i still get 40-50 regularly. Hard to tell if it's any real difference. Good luck with your build!
Your inverter will go brrrrrr.... :D good luck whit that
Why
@@soilliam You cannot carry not even heavy loads but neither lighter stuff. The maximum is what a Prius gen 2 can carry is some bikes and sport equipment. According to Toyota. Im sure the original manual contains it.
Not the inverter, breaks and suspension, undercarriage and the planetary gearset is capable for this.
It will kill your inverter.
I called Toyota and they have changed their tune. Not sure about gen 2 I have a Prius v ‘17 but they use to tell me no tow but now say just shy of 1600 lbs like they are already rated overseas. Not much but more than a bike or two!
Great video, I want to do this to my camry, I'm worried about long term effects on the CV joints did yours give you a problem after some time?
about 40k miles on them so far, and no issues here
Thank you for the detailed video. Any issues with steering or binding or ride?
No problem, so far nothing that I can tell has changed with handling or ride
hows the mpg after installing those ???
mpg hasn't noticeably changed! still 40-50
How are those spacers holding up? I've seen some forum posts from people who have had them split due them being made of plastic.
holding up well so far. I have driven about 40k miles, but I dont do much serious off roading. I just use it to get over big bumps and the occasional unpaved, grooved road
That dope man, how much mpg did you sacrifice tho?
Thanks--so far I'm not noticing any significant mpg change. I do a delivery route every day and I get 47-51 mpg average over the 200 mile route
Thanks😂😂😂❤
My front strut tower stud broke way before the specified torque was reached, just like yours. Where did you get a replacement stud? Thanks.
Rip stud. I got a replacement at ace hardware. It did not have the spline section at the head of the bolt but it has not caused any problems to date
Commented liked and subscribed... I have so many questions but i will start woth one..
How much mpg did you lose with the lift?
I just picked up a 2008 touring model.. i already own a Class B van... I want to flat tow a lifted prius .. park the van on BLM.. then use the prius to go fishing..resupply all while have the van parked in a prime camping spot
Thank you-in all honesty I don’t think I’ve lost any mpg. I still get 45-50 in tow and 40-45 on the highway. Any other questions let me know! I’m happy to share
@@soilliam is it possible to add an auxiliary transmission cooler.. I plan on towing my custom made Suzuki samurai half cut trailer...
I have added coolers to all my other rigs ..eCVT I am not familiar with...
I do not know. If you find out let me know!
@@soilliam will do... During the week I will look for a Prius specific shop and ask... I will report back
What was the weight these springs were rated for? I understand valley spring works has several different springs they have to offer for the second gen. Thanks.
I am not sure, I didn’t ask for a specific weight rating. They told me they were their dual rate springs
Any chance youre near Portland Oregon bro?
Not atm
I did the same upgrade but now my driver side has a squeeking sound when turning. Sound like its coming from where the rubber lift meets the strut at the upper part of the strut. Especially loud when i open my hood and put my ear by the 3 bolts. That part doesnt turn but the squeeking sound is heard the entire time the steering wheel is turning. Any tips on how to fix this?
not sure on how to fix this as I havent dealt with this problem, but I would try spraying some lubricant in the area if you can reach it. Best of luck
Has increasing the front height decreased your gas mileage from the axle joints having to rotate at a higher angle?
I want to lift mine a lot higher, but doing so id have to drop the entire engine and transmission lower too so my gas mileage remains the same until i place higher diameter wheels on.
So far i'm not noticing any significant difference in mpg. im sure it has changed some, but i'm still getting 40-45mpg in cold weather
Do the 2” springs add to the 1.5” lift for a total of 3.5”?
yes about 3.5 - 4 inches when unloaded
I want my spring with mustard tomato and onion.
serving it up gary's way
whos house?
og house
Not supposed to tow any trailers with Prius!
not supposed to do a lot of things :)
Rename that car Buford Pusser . Walking tall.
Lol
people will literally jump inside the car when u wll cross your car from a speed breaker or a little bump - not a good mod .
thankfully i havent had any problem with people jumping when i cross little bumps
New sub…using this as reference to lift my 2017 Honda fit for cross country move
Hell yea, good luck with your build
