    If you’re getting paid to do something and paying taxes on that money it’s a real job. Don’t care what that thing is.

    I have to say that usually I watch most of the ads. I appreciate the content that you put out and I want you to get paid so you can support your family and live your life. I do sometimes skip them if they are like 10min long or if I’m on a lunch break at work and I only have so much time to begin with but usually I do watch the ads.

    As far as I'm concerned, if you're doing a task or tasks and get reallife money for said tasks, it's a real job that gives you real money

    Do you still get ad revenue if someone hits the skip button?

      It’s unfortunate. I don’t mind watching 30 seconds to a minute of ads. But i have had ads that are 3-5 hours. And that’s definitely not happening.

      @@NotTheHockeyGuyThat makes no sense from TH-cam's perspective. They're a business. I don't want to watch ads, but why should I be gifted the option to skip them? I will make an effort to resist hitting the skip button.

    I agree that every youtuber wants the clicks. The problem is most viewers have a skewed definition of clickbait. Real clickbait or bad clickbait is when the video title or thumbnail is misleading and the video basically doesn't even touch on it or that its something just completely false. If people criticize you for it I think that's ridiculous, but also kind of a misunderstanding on the viewers end of what bad clickbait is.

    Great video Shannon. I agree, I've never left a negative comment for a TH-camr, and don't hit the thumbs down button. If the video isn't for me, then I'll just click away from it. Someone might like the content, and good for them, maybe it's just not for me.

    I really can’t imagine why anyone would criticize you of all people for this. You’re probably the least click baity most transparent creator on this app. I love what you do on both of your channels. Keep it up if anyone has an issue with it then they probably just shouldn’t be on the Internet.

    Any thumbnail that has a surprised face or a title like "I do this and you won't believe what happened" get set to Not Interested or Do Not Recommend Channel. Thankfully none of that here. But you do need more cats in thumbnails to add more views. Cats = Clicks!

    • @mgguygardening
      @mgguygardening 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I wholeheartedly agree. That's straight up clickbait, which I think Shannon has touched on before in a similar video. I've had subs on channels for a long time that switched to what I call the "OMG" clickbait stuff and have unsubscribed as a result. Provide good content and I'll watch, don't clickbait me. Shannon provides good (ok, great) content.

    Why else would a youtuber make content? "Oh, I just spent weeks working on this video! I hope no one clicks on it!"

    I think in an older video, it was mentioned about TH-cam Premium. So I got it to support creators. Playing videos in the background while I do chores or work on the computer is like listening to the radio. When the screen timeouts, the video continues to play in the background. It's great.

    Anyone who says it is not a real job has never been or known an entrepreneur. Its just like the "AI will take away jobs" myth. It will change career paths and opportunities. It will create new ones. Just like TH-cam has, with vlogging and reaction videos. And as far as TH-camrs creating videos for clicks.. 100%! There isn't one video on TH-cam not uploaded for clicks. Telling a TH-camr that is like telling a sitcom creator "You just made this show for ratings". Well, yeah thats kinda the point.

  • @rockiesfan77

    You def don’t do click bait titles. If you had news titles like: an all star got hurt last night, this team got a massive piece back, or a league changing trade has happened, etc. where you actually have to click to find the info, and it may not be as big of a deal as it’s made to sound, I would stop clicking on those. I appreciate your concise and informative notd titles!

    One realistic and easy thing for thumbnails would be just text. I know you click because of the title but TH-cam has an big bias on thumbnails especially on mobile. For example your news videos have all the news in the title but it gets so long that I cannot see the whole title. So a simple fix would be to have the news also on the thumbnail.
    And I personally you see the thumbnail first and then the title. And the thumbnails of just players look like throwaway videos and actully kept me from clicking on your videos for a while. So again just some text on the thumbnail like "Preview of the April 8th NHL games" would go a long way for new viewers to click. And that is mainly for new viewers.

    • @niikkek254
      @niikkek254 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And I wanna add that thumbnails are literally huge nowadays. You should also include your face in your thumbnails more. Just looking at your most viewed videos(THG Channel) and almost all of em have your face on the thumbnail.

    It's not a real Job in the same way that people have said to those who wanted to become (and became) actors, musicians or similar to get real Jobs. Doing stuff in Entertainment isn't seen as a real Job by many people, cause they have no clue how much work it is, but of course also due to the risks attached to it. You're also not supposed to have fun at work.
    In regards to adds, I try watching them sometimes, but then there's the next 8 Minute Video that has 4 ads at the start, 3 in the middle and 2 more for good measure right before it ends. Not to mention getting 4 ads on a live stream, making you miss stuff.

    Main problems I have with ads:
    - Repetitive. It’s the same handful of ads over and over again. Not just the same ad on multiple videos, but the same ad multiple times on a single video.
    - Weird lengths. I’m not opposed to leaving on a 15 or 30 second ad, but some of them are several minutes or even HOURS long.
    - At least for the several months, political ads. Not interested in tuning in for some hockey content and having multiple ads of some candidate talking about how his opponent is the devil.

  • @smithryansmith
    @smithryansmith 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Ive been watching since 2017 or 2018 and I still watch because of the content and because of your integrity. When Ive seen other hockey youtubers sell their souls for gambling aps, I know that Shannon wont.
    The only videos I dislike are when you make a "rection to comments! video. For example, if a fanbase gets whiny about power rankings and you make a justification. I understand why, but youll never persuade them with a video. I dont click on any videos that are "justifications"
    The other thing, and its small, but when you complain about being tired. I understand you work a lot but many of us do as well. The last thing I want to hear after 9 hours of a factory shift is somebody complaining about watching hockey. If we were having a chat about it, it would be fine to complain, but its one sided. Zou tell me how tired you are, but I neverwrite in the comments how tired I am.
    But these are small nitpicks. overall, Ive stuck with you, even when my team sucks.

  • @1002l
    @1002l 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The argument for just for clicks, is when you've made the title of a video too hyperbole for the content you've created, like saying must watch amazing goals, and its not like that, or its a computer game goal. Shannon doesn't do anything like this, so god knows why people would accuse him of that type of click baiting.

  • @BoyNamedSue4
    @BoyNamedSue4 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I never have understood people complaining about people making something for clicks when they’re just reporting on something. News flash. That’s how every news source you have ever seen works. So long as you aren’t making stuff up or being purposefully misleading there’s nothing wrong with making a topic that will engage a high amount of interest.

    i hear that 80% of people making videos on the youtube are sponsored by somebody in some way.
    manscape could be something you should look into.
    you could influance me.
    if i click on the thing they give you da money.

    you are funny ive been know to do that
    but im not everybody.
    the first time was when i was playing gta5 .was sorta new to the youtubes.would get trapped into clicking on things that said new or awesome,or had pointing arrows.
    then i got in a tiff with mrbossforthewin.because he clickbaited me into something.sometimes its cathartic to say see ya im out.
    youtubers are just people.some are moral,others just care about the money.the ones that just care about the money are flashes in the pan.the ones with morals are the truman show.in my opinion.
    you would not believe the amount of habs youtubers ive gone tru over the years.
    all they have to say is chicken legs hudson is top 4...im out.and i kinda say so.
    most cannot accept that they dont know something or push an agenda.
    you seem to be just a regular guy at work talking sports and music and movies at the water cooler on break.
    keep it like that your good to go imo.
    haters gonna hate,its part of the famous/infamous thing.
    i learned to have fun with it.
    sometimes you need to squash the bug good.so other roaches dont come out.
    at a million subs...the din will worsen.
