I live in Berlin and I have an ongoing game with my girlfriend. Everytime one of us see a 1UP piece we yell „1UP!“ And the one who saw it first get a(n) (imagery) point.

I see 1UP stuff pop up here n there in Stockholm once in a while and they also link up with some well known Swedish crews and hit trains a fair bit, there's a few Swedish graff movies and vids with 1UP.

I even have my own authentic 1UP Slap "sticker" they slapped a tonne in Medborgplatsen-Stockholm (one of the only places with a graff store) so I grabbed one for my blackbook haha.
They are smart enough to do this in every country. They always work together with big crews of the country they are in. And most big graffiti shops know some of them because that's where you also find the artists

I was wondering if there were any notable groups or solo artists in atlanta you'd be interested in making a video on? I've definitely seem some good artists around here recently (sokem, iBeem, vayne, clops, the face person?) but I don't know if there are any huge historical examples of graffiti artists from atlanta.

Naw, I don't get why anyone would want to be part of a crew that big with no~one "runnin' ting" or nothing! I know that there have been (are?!) outfits that have been international, _intercontinental,_ even, before the World Wide Web came along, but I'm pretty sure 1UP could not really exist in the form they do without the internet. They do go BIG, and they do go _everywhere,_ which is bloody impressive, I'm not gonna lie, but there's also a helluva lot of them! And I know - everyone's a critic(!) but I think its fair to say, they're not especially noted for elaborate or innovative work. Then there's the problem of, who actually *is* a member?! For those who are familiar with it, it reminds me of an episode of '00's(?) UK/Irish comedy 'The IT Crowd', where the (doofus) 'hero' Roy claims to be a member of the Anarchist - Hactivist collective 'Anonymous' - before trailing off, mumbling something like "- Or at least I _think_ I am, anyway..." And that's just the more - or - less bona fide 'associate' or prospect - type members; there's got to be thousands, probably, of wannabes and just out - and - out fakes. At least if you're in a biker gang or a street gang, there are _'repurcussions'_ for people 'taking it's name in vain', and appropriating 'cred' that isn't theirs! And while it's great 'n all that you can fly into Auckland or Valparaiso or wherever and be bombing that night with friends and assured of a bed, are you really gonna tell me that a member from a town of 30 or 40,000 people in (sorry!) a relative backwater like Ireland or New Zealand is _really_ going to carry the same prestige, irrespective of _how_ much of a wizard they may be with a spraycan, as a member living in a glamourous capital like Berlin whose skills may not be dazzling, but they're hanging in the right clubs at the weekend..? Or can you imagine some founding member in his 40's (50's??) watching the trains and trying to strike up a conversation, and he's getting blanked on the assumption he's the Filth?! That would have to make you feel kinda sick! Or going back to our friend in Nelson (or wherever) - supposing they get lifted... Can they count on that great 'Unity' then, or is their a7se going to be out there in the breeze? OK, I sure wouldnt want to be in any clique with a literal membership list, but do 1UP have anything like a bust - fund? I'd be mega surprised if they did.
You might have gathered, but I do think crews kind of lose something when they get really big. Not the least, exclusivity! Even going back to the earliest days, this was what finished the 3YB, New York's 3~Yard Boys, at that time (early/mid '70's) the biggest crew in the city; but for all that that was their greatest bragging point, it ceased to mean much when literally (almost) anyone could be a member! One way to deal with that, of course, is to restrict membership, impose and maintain standards - but how do you effectively do this, when there's no real leadership? There's something to be said too, I think, for the idea that you can network with a good share of your crew just by being in the same park or at the same bench on a Saturday afternoon; and if you don't know a brother (sister) by sight, you'll know them by their name or rep. Call me Oldskool, Hell, call me a Fossil, but for me a crew should basically limit themselves to their city, or their region. You can still have honorary, associate members in distant cities, or overseas who you can liaise and collaborate with when travelling, and vice - versa; or if a member moves to another city and continues writing s/he can grow the thing that way - but the thing is, it's organic. Being 'the biggest' isn't the be all and end all. Let the quality of your work, and the coups you achieve do the talking. Although, as to the latter, 1UP have pulled their share, I'll certainly give them that!
Anyway there's my Op~Ed piece, I submit it to all, for whatever it may be worth...

@@richiehoyt8487 1-UP (before they began signing VMD a lot, I won't give any more details) had a true BERLIN tradition which is the whole reason 1-UP even exists in the first place. I won't type the story on the internet from a hardcore observers perspective but up until that point EVERYTHING made complete sense and the styles were the best. This is what I'd call Phase 1.
During Phase 2 the world becomes more important and getting into the James Bond stuff that gave them the mainstream appeal, but it's also when they started travelling to super boring countries (my opinion since I love the hardcore and only the hardcore, especially since I live in another city very similar to Berlin which still requires having a very hardcore mindset). Styles also became a lot worse in regards to regular chrome pieces. Since that's what I love the most from Berlin that instantly became the moment where I noticed the shift. (1992-2006 ish is the BERLIN peak eras of chrome pieces imho)
Phase 3 is when they got into the Olympics mindset and onwards. When they took the drone actions to a whole new level.
I'll always respect what they did, but nothing beats that pure raw BERLIN MINDSET which exists within a few crews and writers to this day so many decades later.
Have fun & and adapt. That's the "Religion Called Bombing " and it's also the BERLIN way.
To those still keeping the bombing traditions alive, You KNOW exactly who you are and it's done.
