    When watching this film, it makes you wonder how on earth did Dreamworks go from making a movie of such high quality like this, to a movie about colorful twerking trolls, lol.

      Many of their future 2d films did not perform well. And the costs were WAY too high, especially when their first 3d movie made almost more money than the Prince of Egypt.

      The Trolls movie was far better than the trailer though.

    Possibly my favourite film. So beautiful and the music design is fantastic (although I think playing with the big boys is the weakest link). Never fails to make me smile and can easily be enjoyed by someone who isn't religious.

    • @Filscout
      @Filscout 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Playing wit the bigs boys now" was Jefrey Katzenberg's dumbest song he ewanted included. he wanted the scene to be a Vegas act show! And everyone in the crew hated it! So he tone it done. Thats the idiod JK for you!

    • @gerawallstar3487

      @@Filscout The song is so out of place. Its the kind of song that you would normally see from Veggietales.

    • @DiabolicalAngel
      @DiabolicalAngel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Playing With The Big Boys made sense. It was the Egyptians basically saying that their gods were the real deal while the Abrahamic god was false. It may not have had the kind of deep lyrics as the other songs, but not all the songs had to be imo.

    Aaaaah! A perfect score! ❤
    I'm so happy that you were finally able to review this movie. I was one of the people who not only requested it a lot, but voted for it on each poll. So glad to see my hard work paid off. XD
    I agree with everything you said about this masterpiece of a film. Despite it having a religious tone, it's not shoving God in our faces. This movie can be watched by those who are religious, and those who aren't. The story is so powerful, and brings so much more depth to Mose and Ramses' relationship, since every other Moses movie I've seen has had Ramses hate Moses from the very start. As an animation major, I can tell so much dedication was put into creating this film. The character designs have a nice realistic look to them, and the backgrounds are so vast and detailed. The CGI doesn't look dated, and as you said, it was a strong factor in making the effects look convincing. I love all the voice work in this movie, especially Ralph Fiennes as Ramses. As for the music, I love all the songs from this movie, with my favorite being When You Believe. This is a movie I can watch over and over and not get sick of, because it's just so amazing. I get chills each time I watch it. In fact, thanks to your review, I'm tempted to watch it again. :3

      It feels great that Dreamworks was respectful to the source material while taking creative liberties with the Bible, especially with God, not making Him a booming, scary antagonist but a magestic, loving, no nonsense God. Second to Ruth, Moses is my favourite Biblical character and Dreamworks did an amazing job with his character.

    The huge issue I have with the more faithful adaptations is, paradoxically, just that, that they're too faithful.
    The original story is amazing by all means and accounts, but like most tales of the Bible, it leaves out the human experience to focus more on the grandness of God.
    Not that it is bad to communicate how great God is, but it is sad that the human drama gets lost amidst that message, when there's such colossal potential for a gripping tale of two brothers torn by their destinies.
    I like The Prince of Egypt because it understand that while not lessening the importance of God and his role in the tale, it makes it more universal and heartfelt.

    Btw. please don't forget Danny Glover, Helen Mirren and Patrick Stewart, who were voice acting in the movie too.

      If I simply mentioned them, people would wonder why I only said their names and didn't go into detail about them. It's nothing against these actors, they did great jobs, there just has to be a line drawn before the show turns into an obligated credits shoutout. People are always welcome to ask my thoughts on the smaller cast members in the comment section.

    this prince of egypt needs to get more attention it's an amazing and highly underrated movie with great songs gorgeous animation and some amazing voice work I would have to say my only two complaints would be that the ending felt a bit rushed and i wish they had put the title of the movie after the first song I think if they had done that the time jump wouldn't have felt as jarring but other than those things this is hands down dreamworks best movie right up there with How to train your dragon in fact I think I would go as far as to call this movie a masterpiece

  • @baranguirus

    Awesome movie, one of the greatest!
    Makes me miss the days when DreamWorks did 2-D animated films... Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with Shrek, and I love Kung Fu Panda and How to Train your Dragon, and even Monsters vs Aliens for catering to my love of B-movies (no, not that one with the insects.) But... Some variety would be welcomed. In an age when 3D absolutely dominates cinema, I think DreamWorks could return to their mold-breaking spirit of the early days by making a new 2-D animated feature.

    I really like this movie because
    -Humanizes all the characters and gives them flaws that’s relatable
    -Gives both genders the same level as each other. Not one female or male character was given the shorter end of the stick
    -They use the “show don’t tell” formula when it’s needed or can be used in place of dialogue.
    -The voice acting is crazy awesome
    -God is present in the film and mentioned.
    -Most of the songs were memorable
    -Not one character was trumped over any other characters
    -The soundtrack was amazingly awesome and were placed appropriately
    -The colors were appropriate for each scene
    10/10 for me and I’d like to recommend this movie for my future family members.
    Edit: More thoughts about the movie.
    Finally got to have a chance to watch it after a long time of waiting, I was blown away from everything from the animation, the story, and the character chemistry. You can show this to someone who isn’t really religious or not even know about the book of exodus and what happens in the book, I guarantee that they’ll love the movie even though it’s religious but it’s not that noticeable. The movie isn’t about belief of God, it’s about self-worth and how you see yourself from someone else’s perspective. Through the movie, Moses matures throughout the movie. Also, the show don’t tell aspect is very prominent and done well. I actually love this version of the book of exodus rather than the other ones because they just tell you to believe in God and not question it or you’ll go to hell. This movie doesn’t shove the message of “You should always believe in God and not think for yourself” cause I call bullshit on it because it’s a harmful message to send to others because it’s basically saying that you can’t live your own life and make your own choices, for me, I couldn’t care less if I go to hell because I know that I didn’t do anything immoral like kill anyone or anything illegal because that’s just stupid. Prince Of Egypt was asking you to look at yourself from an outside perspective, do you like how you’ve become? Or do you need to work on some serious problems that you’re struggling with. I say, if Christian movies didn’t push the idea of believing in god down everyone’s throats and basically telling everyone that they would go to hell for being a non-believer of God, Then I don’t want any part of a group that shames people for minor things like being gay or leaving an abusive relationship or dating someone outside their religion. I give it a 10/10 and the best religious movie I’ve experienced. This will go into my shelf of fame.

    Just watched this movie, and I have very rarely been so moved emotionally and of course being a Biblical story I already know how it all goes! But the music, the pace, the relationship between moses and his brother...The real feeling of awe when he splits the ocean apart ...I almost think being animated, helps the whole majesty of it..I don't think you could get that in real life, it really activates your imagination like no other this movie. This word is over used, but it really is awesome.

    Howdy, Jambareeqi. Jonathan Battle here, again. And I've come to share my thoughts on DreamWorks' first hand-drawn animated film, "The Prince of Egypt."
    - Content: I love that this film had a very serious tone that was different from other animated features from Disney. 5 points
    -Characters: Moses is one of the best characters I relate too in this film. What we have in common is learning to take responsibility. 5 points
    -Animation: The people who worked at Amblimation deserved the most credit, making the movie "a post-Amblimation animated film." 5 points
    -Voice Acting: There is a lot of actors in this film I recognize: Ralph Fiennes ("Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"), Michelle Pfeiffer ("A Midsummer Night's Dream"), Sandra Bullock ("Minions"), Jeff Goldblum ("Isle of Dogs"), Danny Glover ("Alpha and Omega"), Patrick Stewart ("The Pagemaster"), Steve Martin ("Home"), and Martin Short ("Treasure Planet"). This animated film has a huge all-star cast than any other animated film I've watched. 5 points
    -Music: Hans Zimmer's score is on par with Disney's "The Lion King" and Stephen Schwartz's songs are powerful as "Hellfire" in Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." The songwriting team also deserves huge credit for making the film epic. 5 points
    Final Verdict: "The Prince of Egypt" is a great DreamWorks animated film with amazing animation, a huge all-star cast of voice actors, and epic and powerful music. The film deserves 25 out of 25 humongous hieroglyphic strawberries. I wish DreamWorks can make more hand-drawn animated films.

    As a chaltholic boi i really enjoyed this movie. Although it shows god and of which i obviously aprove, i feared some people, particularly athiests would flip shit about it. Its nice to see that we can all just enjoy a quality movie without our opinions disrupting the enjoyment and quailty of the film.

    Sadly, Moses didn't leave to become a shepard, he left because he felt he didn't belong in life of royalty or Eygpt and chose to keep running till all he could do was wander and travel around the desert till his fate or destiny would be decided for better or worse.

    What do you think of Patrick Stewart as Seti, the first Pharaoh and Helen Mirren as Tuya, the mother of Rameses and Moses?

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Angela Fisher Stewart's timbre Shakespearean voice was ideal for Seti, gives him the authority needed to intimidate Rameses. While Mirren nails both Tuya's sterness and soft side

    I agree with your assessment. I think it should have stayed closer to the original story from Exodus where Moses’ real mom gets to raise him as his nurse just as one example. There may not have been as much of a story arc as I suspect if the story had stayed more with the Bible. It still would have been good. On the other hand, he may have been more conflicted if they’d gone with the Biblical narrative. We’ll never know.

    It truly baffles my mind how DreamWorks went from making masterpieces like this to making movies about babies in suits and trolls. I know that those movies are more geared towards little , little kids But DreamWorks hasn’t really been making as great movies as they used to. The last good movie I remember seeing from them was how to train your Dragon 3 and their newest movie the Croods 2 was actually pretty dang good. I do like the Croods movies however but I just feel like everything they’ve been putting out recently is just sequels I think they need something new and fresh. Now that how to train your Dragon is ended and I believe this will be the last Croods movie I really don’t know what’s next for this movie studio I really want them to make some thing similar to the prince of Egypt and it would be my dream come true if they would return back to hand drawn animation but I highly doubt that will happen. Don’t even get me wrong 3D animation is great but I just feel like there’s something about 2-D animation that’s really special like the artist is actually physically drawing it on paper and there’s just something magical about it. It would be amazing if they would make another movie similar to the prince of Egypt something in the Bible or something else religious that takes place tthousands of years ago.

    The only bad part of this film, I feel, is the "Playing with the Big Boys Now" musical segment. It sets up an "obstacle" in the high priests, but then those two never really do anything in the film again besides performing parlor tricks for Ramses, they never even get personally "beaten." Sure they fail to stop the plagues, but that flies by in a song that's focused on the two brothers. In that way, it feels disconnected and unnecessary (imagine if there was no musical segment during the scene of Moses' return, they just make their own snakes and tell Moses to git gud, does it really change anything?) and I don't personally like that it's basically shoved between scenes that really focus on Moses and Ramses.
    Also, isn't it a bit odd that Seti is viewed as a monster for killing the Hebrew children "for the greater good", but then God basically does the same thing to the Egyptians? Well, I suppose that's just a flaw in the source material, hah.
