I’m a recovering heroin addict, and strongman training has helped me tremendously throughout this recovery. This channel in particular is quite intimate and motivational. Thank you, Loz 😊
@@patrikboij7560 I went to detox for a week and quit cold turkey there. If you happen to be an addict and would like to talk to a stranger, please let me know
I was in the hospital last year with encephalitis (a complete infection of my CNS). It kills 150k people every year. I was fed through a tube and 3 people had to hold me up to take a piss and I was in intensive care for 5 days. I was 113.5kg and I put my head in my hands crying my eyes out and feeling really low. I looked down at my feet and thought the exact same thing as Travis. Fast forward 12 months and I'm 32kg lighter and I'm starting training again. I want to do my very first competition in July just after I turn 30. The mind is the most powerful thing and like my favourite quote says "A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor." Travis and Loz are huge inspirations and I love them both.
It’s refreshing to see a big strong dude like Travis speak so openly about his addiction, and especially his emotional pain. Too many men feel a stigma about those things and don’t get help. Normalizing facing down those demons, getting help, and showing there’s a path to redemption is an important lesson for all men. Everyone needs help sometimes, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
What a tough tough man Travis is...beating addiction, dealing with injuries and countless losses of his loved ones and then fighting his way back to top level strongman competition. He's made of iron! I hope he has another great few years left in his strongman career. Wishing him the best of luck in the future, from Ireland.
Travis' story reminds me of .....Jiminy Cricket's (the little fellow on your shoulder) song "Always let you conscience be your guide"....in the Pinocchio story, Seems like good advice.
what a episode, i had tears in my eyes when i listened to travis what a legend. i also had nightmare when my little daughter died. i also had a gambling addicsion afterwards. now i have 3 kids and i am a happy person. travis otmayer you are a inspertion for me...
Travis is the ultimate example of how it’s not important how you start, it’s all about how you finish. Man started out rough and now he’s finishing strong.
Loz - I just suffered an injury in training myself. Detached the long head of my biceps' tendon from my shoulder. My weightlifting is my soul & life. Listening to you guys talk on your injuries and how your mindset has changed, and realizing that the body will achieve what the mind conceives and believes, it made my day and reassured me that I'm thinking about this the right way. Cause I have that same mindset now after all the horrid shit and injuries I've been thru. Once again, thank you so much. This conversation has affected me positively in more ways than one. Sincerely, Mike.
Holy crap, I wish all the best and success for Travis, that's a heckova story. Having the mental power to get over that situation is amazing. Almost had to pull over when I was driving home listening to this, his description of watching his wife and son leave at the airport hit real, real hard. Won't get into it for brevity, but had an extremely similar experience with my ex wife just before she shitcanned me. I can honestly say that Travis is stronger than me mentally, but I had a far better friend and family support group, so I got through things faster, and only kinda damaged my liver and brain. So very, very much better now, like he seems to be. Gotta remember to give the big man a hug if I can get to an event he's at.
Seeing Travis complete the stone run following a competition he wasn’t even competing in blew my mind… Denison Tx in the early 2000s - I learned what strongman was and I’ve always been a fan of the Texas Stoneman! We’re all human… strength athletics is a special channel of escape and We should be thankful for every moment we share in our sport and among our brethren in strength. Much love to all
What a Legend Travis Ortmayer ! Love his story, his determination, his mindset. He is my favourite strongman since 2007 when I started whith this sport. Great inspiration, hope you are going to meet your son soon sir !
I love strongman, so much...thanks Loz for always, ALWAYS delivering. Words can't describe what your videos offer man! Much love, stay strong! (Travis is awesome as well)
The first interview with Travis was really emotional and cool. I have had issues with addiction and have worked hard to rebuild my life as well. The use of gratitude to re program his brain and mental state is awesome and Dr. Joe Dispenza talks about this same method but Travis really explains it in a way that I can relate to
November 25th 2012 is my sobriety date by the grace if God. It’s wild how these things work out. I love recovering addicts! We know what it takes to overcome like no others
His episode was the best...it was the only one I listened to more than once. Now the guy has had a stellar year competing at WSM 2021 and winning a show in Portugal. He's got plenty of years left in the tank to compete...
I couldn't believe it when he said his sister his uncle and the dog died recently so crazy to be able to stay focused during something like that recently lost my brother so really appreciate Travis being able to talk about it really rooting for him
I hope his family gives him another chance. I can't imagine the way losing them feels. Takes a strong dude to get back up and kick ass. Really amazing.
Love Travis. Always been a nice guy and missed him when he left the scene. Great to have him back in the family and see him hanging out with the guys again.
What an inspiration. Thank you Travis for sharing your story. Thank you Loz for sharing your platform. ❤️ Btw I turned 40 in August too and still feel 20.
Wow that's crazy, i never knew this story about him! Thanks for bringing it. Only started watching you and Liz recently so i didn't know there was a previous interview with Travis.
Talking Strongman with Travis was my favourite one in the series previously so was particularly looking forward to this! Thanks Loz! 👍🏻 Travis is a massive inspiration to me - his story of pulling himself up out of the darkness is something in itself but his incredible positivity towards life in spite of some incredibly tough times amazes me. I’m currently working on getting my positivity back after some tough times left me feeling really negative and changed my outlook on life, so I can really relate to that feeling. I now aspire to be like Travis! Anyone who hasn’t seen his ‘Monday gratitude’ posts on Instagram each week should check them out - regularly demonstrating positivity in the face of adversity and encouraging and inspiring others to do the same. What a legend! Finally…(!) …I’d love to see Travis at a Giants Live show - I’d go just to cheer him on!
I second this. Talking strongman with Travis is my favorite too. I am grateful to Loz, Travis and the Stoltmans who are open about their mental health struggles. So many of us struggle and this pandemic has taken a toll on mental health. By posting videos like this, it shows that these superman athletes are human, and that we can all struggle and have desperate moments. Thank you for bringing this out in the open and thank you to Travis for sharing some of his tools for fighting off those horrible thoughts and paving the way for himself to have a meaningful and happy life.
Lot of great info for anybody going through any kind of hard times and I once heard idle time is the devil's plaything and that's what that void is that he talked about
I really enjoyed this. Travis is an amazing dude and such an inspiration. I hope someone out there hears his story and draws faith and strength from it. All the best to you, Travis! Thanks to you, Loz
Travis is such an inspiration to all of us. Loved watching him back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His redemption story is something all of us can be inspired by. Especially those of us who have been through addiction and mental health issues. Love it. Keep it up Travis we love ya

Always good to hear about someone getting away from the darkness. Sadly a place I know well (gym injury, 10 years of painkillers) but I'll make it out 1 day hopefully. Best wishes Travis 👍

I'm a big person and always want to try strongman but I know my body and medical issues will just stop me. I've always been strong but would of like to just try and train to see what I can do. I'm calf's and thighs are too big but could never do a pull up. 👍
It's mad because I know Travis is totally against the judging system in bodybuilding and the chase fir some old bloke judge to tell you your lats aren't to his taste so you don't get placed ! It has gone mental to try and please some judge who has his own opinion on what looks good ???? I learned to do it for yourself!!
You should get Riku Kiri or Jouko Ahola on. Unfortunately I don't see it happening. Both are oldschool, and not into talking about themselves. Also Ahola is very busy and Kiri is very antisocial.
People just need to treat each other with respect. Fuck what society wants us to be.. how about being fucking human and having emotions. Much love to everyone and just remember to keep building yourself and others around you up instead of tearing each other down. The hatred in this world is not of the flesh but thats another topic
