    I'm so excited about this piece!!! My cousin was involved in some way for the restoration of the church. In 79 or 80 her and her husband were the first wedding to take place in the church for years. I was in grade school and it was my first wedding. I was terrified of how long the isle was and didn't want to do it. In the end she bribed me to be in the wedding. I did it! Thank you for bringing back a memory I forgot.

    I don't see a video on your channel that covers the Basilica. I'd love to hear you talk about the amazing mosaics inside.

    Mercy. I heard "bird droppings a foot deep" and truly pitied the poor soul who had to clean that up. But how wonderful the beautiful church was saved. I wonder if it's included in one of Nathan's walking tours. (I am not on Facebook, but still want to take all his three-hour tours somehow.)

    What a beautiful church! How sad that Fr Filipiak was murdered, but perhaps it was his destiny that he foresaw when he said he would die for that church. I think there’s little doubt that his death contributed greatly to the decision to raise the money and repair/refurbish the church.
    Thank you, Ken! Someday I’m going to make it to STL and I intend to use a good portion of your playlist to plan my time on my trip! 💕

    How sad! I never knew the priest was murdered there. I’m happy the church was saved and people are able to enjoy it.
    Side note: the gray paint thing is so weird! I wonder why anyone would cover up beautiful things.

    • @Zuzuyatts
      @Zuzuyatts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      An easy answer, unfortunately. In the madness of the "Second Vatican Council" everything beautiful was to be done away with. Statues and ornate paintings were considered a distraction from what was going on at the altar. Having beautiful things for the greater glory of God was a thing of the past. I should know; I lived through that in Connecticut. They tore out all the altars and gave away most of our statues. Even at the age of ten, I knew it was wrong.

    Is the church open for Mass or tours?

    • @alison5009
      @alison5009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it still is for masses and weddings. Im unsure about tours. At one time, it was hard to get into to schedule a wedding and quite expensive to do so-more than others, I should say.

    Since I am a Roman Catholic and a "Daily Communicate, a miracle" I very much believe in miracles, however, a miracle in itself is worthless (healings, apparitions, a shroud, a 500-year poncho with an image on it in Mexico); these feed not the soul since great un-natural things only crave more miracles. St Louis was in his chapel when an excited crowd exclaimed that a priest held up the HOST and it was transformed into a Holy child, but the king did not stir at their wanting him to come and see but insisted that the Holy Body of Christ was right here in his chapel. Point: Miracles happen every day only to be made part of life.

    the vatican bank could save these and many old historic churches now in disrepair! Baloney : donations from hardly any people left to donate .

      Parishes belong to local bishops. The Catholic Church isn't a mega-entity like Walmart or something.

    • @PatrickKniesler
      @PatrickKniesler ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides the fact that these churches are under the purview of dioceses, the Vatican bank has been severely mismanaged as the modernists have infiltrated the hierarchy and bloodied the Bride of Christ with their numerous public and private schemes and sins. So much so that you will now find member of the curia and various bishops kicking nuns and monks out of historic holy places to sell them to resort companies. A schism is coming between what Ven. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen called the "ape of the Church" and the remnant.
