Many 7-Eleven locations are practically homeless camps. They attract a bad element. There are always dirtbags hanging around in the parking lot, panhandling and bumming cigarettes.
Less people go into the store because there are homeless people loitering outside the front door 24/7 and the police will do nothing about it. Nobody wants to get confronted by a crazed drug addict every time they go into a store.

Once the SIMPSONS TV Show Retired the Character of "APU" the Owner/Operator of "Kwik-E-Mart", People have lost interest in going into a "7-Eleven" as well.
They just tore down 3 or 4 acre as of woods and wild animal habitat to build brand new 7-11 stores huge with gas pumps. Now they are closing 400 + stores?

Those goods are made by suppliers who specialize in generic goods, and who slap on whatever label the big chains ask for. It's common that the house brands from multiple big chains will actually be exactly the same products, from exactly the same supplier. Expect that to be the case with any 7-11 branded products you see in the future.

I live in Casa Grande,AZ which has only 1 7-11 store, while it has 8 Circle K locations & 2 QT locations. The writing is on the wall for Casa Grande's 7-11 store.
When you have 9000 stores, you are competing with yourself! 7-Elevens are dying in Connecticut, because #1 they don't sell gas, while most of their competitors do, and #2 they have a lot of old and dilapidated stores that they refuse to remodel into newer and more modern units. Their stores are few and far between, unlike Los Angeles, where they are on about every third block. 7-Eleven is very cheap, and will not go on a remodel spree. Makes it look like the company doesn't care (which they don't). Of course having prices that are out of whack with reality doesn't help. I realize convenience stores are expensive, but when you have that many stores they should be able to leverage better cost from their vendors. Also, theft, lower sales due to the economy, and loitering issues. Someone at the top really needs to get their head out of their butt.

Very few people commenting on how unsettling it is that chains that have been around all our lives are closing all across america suddenly. Looks like dark times on the horizon for all of us If we are not careful.

Yea, there's alot of tax write offs and tax breaks when you rebrand and change ownership.
Don't independent "owners" have have a limited length franchise? If the franchise isn't profitable the franchise isn't renewed. If the franchise faces a lot of theft, or very poor management it's not profitable.
