You have Orbs flying everywhere in this video ! nice skim. Cheers
did my first plastering job today which was patching a ceiling in three different places, i have been told it was a bit of a crap job to start on but i tell u what i have a new found respect for plasterers its hard work and every penny is earned watching the guys do there thing today was awsome. probably does get easier with time but theres no shortcuts in this trade and i think a plastered wall is still better than a tape an filled job
10 out 0f 10 for the video , i feel like striping my flat right down to nothing and building it up again a new , thanks .
all these videos are very useful, Thank u so much ;D
Excellent - thank you.
@MANCMOLONEY Thanks for your comment, much appreciated. More videos coming soon !! Thanks TSTV
Superb stuff! And I didn't even think about starting in the opposite corner to how I'm handed! (In this case cos I'm a dirty south paw I'll be starting in the top right!)
Great video thanks
Good video. Is there a part 2 for showing how to achieve a nicely polished finish for the second coat?
thank you so much really this video helped because i am looking for an apprenticeships in plastering so if you or anyone has any other tips may you please share them
Good work
Nice job
@angiesiege Assuming you're talking about Artex? then yes you can skim over it. Use a bonding agent over the old Artex and allow to dry fully before plastering. A bonding coat is recommended before skimming with multifinish. This will make the job a lot easier. Alternatively, you can board over the Artex with plasterboard and then treat it just like a new ceiling.
The board finish is smoother and will stay a live for that much longer, giving you more time to put on a larger amount of plaster.
Thanks for your comment if theres anything else please let me know.

@GypsyKing7 Really it's down to personal preference (whatever suits you best), but a lot of people start at the top as any plaster that falls down the wall will not cover anything you have already done. No set rule though.
im 19 years old, 5'3, 130 lbs. im interested in doing plastering work because it looks like a fun and interesting career. I love working with my hands and being creative and I feel like plastering might be the way to go. what do you think?
hi buddy loved the video my main concern is if the sheet on the plasterboard would be able to supprt the hard plaster
Thank you for the tip, went little fast for me though.
he's fast... you are hire!!!
V Informative Video, is there a Reason you start at the Top, to Plaster?, Thanks For Posting

Hi Tommy, I'm considering doing skim coating over a popcorn texture on my walls & ceiling. I researched removing the texture but it would be more time consuming & would cost more overall to finish the job. Would you recommend skim coating for this type of project, and would you have any tips that might help?
Thanks, Angie

Thanks, Angie
very true and we do the joint tape/beads first of course .. lol
This video is showing DRYWALL BD. The plaster or what ever you are using could fall off in months to come if you didn't paint a bonding agent on the bd first, such as weld creek. But this looks brown (never seen this before). In my part of the country, the wall would have been painted with a bonding agent, taped, and WHITE plaster would have been used for a beautiful finish, and then it would have been SLICK coated, or sand finished.
been a plasterer for 10 years, this vid is really good for the diy types on plasterboard, guy doesnt mess about shows the tech but unfortunatly putting what seems easy is a bit harder, no saying its rocket science but spreading even is the key and it takes practice and if your doing a diy job one go is what you get, didn't show how to lay the wall in aswell. a massive factor to how to get an even wall before polishing, new plasterboard plus diy = taping and filling. sorry but only way
I would like to know why my plaster dries out within a couple of minutes in the bucket I mix it in and its then unusable? I am using Wickes Thistle Multi-Finish. It doesn't matter how thin and watery I make the mix or hew well I mix it. And I have made small amounts (a quater of one of the smaller buckets in this video) and large amounts of plaster mix (filled up a mixing bucket) and it always dries out the same. I get about 3-4 minutes when plastering before the plaster is too hard to use. ??
hi tommy im from australia just wondering if there is any product in australia to go over plaster
hi im in an old house and most of the plaster is too dry.when i chipped it off there is small bits of wood going across.should i just build it back up a little at a time.it looks the wood is still good but all the pla ster is like powdery and breaking up easily.im a novice at plastering but like to learn things by giving it a go myself.any advice would be helpfull guys.
Thanks for the vids guys, I learn more from you lots than I could have from a collage. Anyhow, from your videos I was able to under take my own house project. Check my own complete house renovation videos to see how much I managed to learn from you guys. Not as good as you boys, but, I am catching up ;)
u should always start from the top (even with painting) as when you come down u immediately spot the plaster that has fall and you`ll never come back 2 times working on the same spot. so, yes, we can say it is a rule, if you want to do the job professionally without any waste of time
Im right handed but would feel more comfortable going left corner to right, sweeping in the opposite dirction. Is that OK?
the bonding agent if useing pva needs to be tacky . hi are you the reall tomy? you did a show in esex for a lad called dave who did the gold trowel course, it was a loft con. do you have a link to the show as i helped on that one x
nice tune
Have a look on the date on the finish. plaster has a 'use by' date and if it's out of date I goes off real fast.
@Ahmed951100 same time as 20 metres mate, the plaster go's off(sets) a the same rate from the minute its mixed
Hi Siman, I am malik I have been ripped off by plasterer's too many time's and am know fed up and want to do the job my self, your video has been very helpful its just thatit just speeds up and i wish to know this job in more detail, i am a bricky i have a city and guild in it its just that i never attempted plastering before and its a very large project i am doing it is my own house its 10 bedrooms and i am not going to let another plasterer rip me off again i am not looking to make a living
and what do you do with small places when trowel doesn't fit it? (like between 2 doors)
@hatem185 paper tape what are you on about paper tape is for taping and jointing its scrim tape
Add some lime to that mix and it will get hot and dry fast.
hi
how long would it take for you to plaster 1 metres squared???
Tommy you are number one.
Maurizio Sanna
@andytheplasterer11 The chap said at the end of the video that he was just about to flatten what he had on to make the second coat easier.
one coat magic coat
When did he use a towel?
hi im 17 and about to finish year 12 and was looking into getting an apprentiship and was wondering if this would be a forfilling job, good money and easy to learn. i have some experence in buidling and construction please respond
LTJ Bukem - Atlantis
Yea, 2 coats on plasterboard, the first one being thicker than the second.
@69adeen if that attitude persists, then how are the new guys gonna learn?
best tip for doing plastering is get a plasterer.
mate the tape your using for the joins on the plasterboard is "easy tape"
thats a big no no its just going to crack ! most of all in the internal corners
paper tape is a must .
U need a bigger paddle and a real drill!!!LOL Just kidding whatever works right???
Is the lad skimming a student?
hahahahahahaha where's the roof
If he was a quicker plasterer, this video wouldn't have needed to be sped up lol
why o why do people think that watchin a few videos on youtube that they will be able to plaster their house,GET A PROFESSIONAL TO DO IT!!!! its not as easy as you think to get a proper finish,(plasterer for 17 years)
Why are u skimming a new gib?
its laughable coming across these 5 day courses guys thinking there plasterers,i have sorted some right nightmares, when they are charging so cheap there is a reason. they are not PLASTERERS.
you are not a plasterer one coat work hahaha in this time j can do 25 square meters. And where is proper mixer ? from 8 to 15.30 j can do 40-50 square meters depending on the walls
No offence but your boarding seems good but your no plasterer. No trowel skills! Leave it to those tradesmen who have served their time.
