Ah yes, the good old days of party political broadcasts and the prime-minister constantly popping up on TV in the evenings to make announcements.

Piggy had style, charisma and a presence that had not been seen before or since IMO. Wether you were with him or against him, he had quality of someone that may have appealed to an extent to all sides of Politics at varying levels. Always drawing a reaction from the masses with his humour, sarcasm/wit, firmness of oratory. He seemed to break the mould of previous (stuffy British style) Leaders.
To qualify my comments….I’m a 1960 model, too young to be interested in Politics through the 70’s & 80’s until I moved to Oz in the late 80’s & became more aware of ‘the dark arts’😏 but in naivety (in NZ) I knew more about Muldoon than any other leader I guess, so that’s saying something about him.

A kind of proto-Trump. But quaintly charming and (probably) meant well enough. A menace at the time though. But way funnier than Donald, and not quite so monstrous.
Poor old Bill Rowling though. Clearly the decent candidate of the pair. If the votes converted proportionately into seats, Muldoon would have been a one-term wonder and we might have had a lengthy Rowling administration.
Graffiti'd onto a table at Otago University: "Rowling sits down to take a p*ss."
And someone angrily scratched back in reply: "Muldoon opens his mouth to take a s**t"
