There were many great players in the history of NBA, but there have been only a few players who were truly inspirational, Larry Bird was certainly one of the few.
Was always a Lakers fan but definitely get chocked up when Magic says "if you keep it close and he has a chance to win....he's gonna win that game." Respect.
Nothing better than those two actually disliking each other then turning it around and being not only mirrors of each other but really good friends, magic getting choked up when Larry called him when the hiv thing happened to make sure magic was okay
One thing is for sure, Larry has made all Boston dream... and me from Naples Italy in my teen age. It was great to see Larry Bird, Magic Johnson , Kareem Abdul Jabbar and many others play.... those were games of superstars and real men, not comparable to the stuff they play nowadays...
THE BEST... he would wear out today's babies... the thing about Bird, Magic, and Jordan was the better the opponent was the better they played any given night
I remember renting the VHS video of this. Multiple times. Magic, Nique, Larry and Jordan really were my life as a youth in 90's. As a Laker fan I'm so appreciative MAgic drafted Lonzo. Good times are here again.
Remember the game and crowd still to this day game 5 vs the Pacers NBC He was in the twilight of his career. He reached down deep and showed everyone what kind of player he was that earned him the name Larry Legend.
ONLY BILL WALTON PLAYED WITH MORE INJURIES THAN BIRD. TWO LEGENDS OF THE 1985-85 CELTICS. THE LOVE FOR THE GAME OF LARRY BIRD IS SIMPLE. HE IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR BASKETBALL AND HIS FANS. LOVE YOU LEGEND!
Pause it at 2:21 and you'll see his jagged finger. He completely broke it just before his rookie year and the dang thing was dangling. He said it never felt right again. Imagine how much better he'd have been if he came into the league with his shooting finger not f'd up. It's freaking scary.
Just being a live makes you a winner. Larry Bird gathered people from everywhere in the planet cause of his big heart. What matters is that you give it all you can in what ever u do and people will love you. If you don't then people won't love you as much. I love your Larry Legend! My friend Carlos and me are one of the biggest latin american fans of you. Long Live B-Ball!
It kinda gets me teary-eyed when he comes out of the locker room and everyone in the old Boston Garden is cheering out his name. Though he was slow and unathletic lookin', he was smart and got the job done. That game 5 was underrated. Reggie Lewis had a pretty good game and they got good production from a guy named Derek Smith. I still like it when Bird stuffed Chuck Person in the battle of who talks the most trash. Great song and great player.
THEY SHOULD MAKE MORE VIDEOS OF GREATS AND NOT SO GREATS THAT REFLECT THEIR PERSONALITIES IN GENERAL AND WHEN PLAYING THE GAME. THAT'S WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THOSE VIDEOS OF BACK THEN. VIDEOS WITH PASSION. THAT's WHAT EVERYONE WANTS!
He has his hand in his pocket at the beginning of a 5th and deciding game. What can you say. This guy was cooler than the other side of the pillow. Talk about confidence. LBJ could learn from this.
Bird didnt have the athletic ability of Jordan or the skills of Magic but he had the heart of a champion and i laugh when people say he couldnt play in todays nba, larry bird could play with anybody in todays game
"Didn't have the skills of Magic"? I disagree with the single exception of ballhandling.. Bird had the court vision of a point guard and threw breathtaking passes some of which were bounce passes that were inbetween the legs of his opponents - something I never did see Magic duplicate. Bird was a better scorer, shooter, rebounder and defender than Magic and Bird was a better clutch player from day 1 - the go to guy to win games, not so for Magic.
I TRIED TO PLAY BASKETBALL LIKE LARRY, MAGIC, MJ AND CHARLES. THAT WAS MY LOVE FOR THEM. I PLAYED TOO HARD BECAUSE I WANTED TO IMPRESS ONE GIRL AND I DEVELOPED OSGOOD SLATTER IN BOTH KNEES. I LOVE BASKETBALL AND WILL KEEP PLAYING UNTILL I CAN'T MOVE ANYMORE. I ALSO WAN´T TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS FOR PLAYING MAD SOMETIMES BUT I JUST SUFFERING BECAUSE I FELL IN LOVE AGAIN. ITS OK NOW I FEEL MUCH BETTER AND I AM ALSO MUCH MORE MATURE. YOU MUST FORGIVE FOR UNREQUITED LOVE ASWELL AS REQUITED LOVE. FORGIVENESS IS ALL I ASK FROM EVERYBODY. BIG HUG. THE CROCODILE.
I AM STILL A LITTLE PISSED OFF THAT THERE NO VIDEOS OF THE REST OF THE CELTICS FROM THAT ERA 79-93. ESPECIALLY IN HONOR OF DENNIS JOHNSON, LEN BIAS AND REGGIE LEWIS. WHOM ARE NOT WITH US TODAY :( BASKETBALL IS A TEAM GAME AND LIFE IS A TEAM GAME ASWELL.
Discovered something very cool.....if you start REO Speedwagon's "Time For Me To Fly" right at the :45 mark, where Larry is running up the tunnel....the song goes right along with the video. Just like "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wizard of Oz"? Bird? "Fly"? Get it? I have a lot of free time on my hands...
@BasketBoffalora Larry Bird and Charles Barkley when BOTH WHERE HEALTHY where By Far the Best Players at Their Positions. Both Had Skills that Where Uncommon for Players with that Physique The NBA has never been the same since the 80s and mid 90s :(
Reggie Lewis died of heart failure & Len Bias died of overdose the day after he signed with the Boston Celtics Both these players were supposed to be fresh blood for the aging Bird era Celtics, to extend their championship run. Very tragic losses.
*"Bird is down and he's hurt"*
Birds Legendary return into the game ensues.
Magic, Larry, and Michael are definitely on Basketball's Mount Rushmore.
I agree
And Dr. J !
Dont forget Kareem
Add LeBron and it's complete
There were many great players in the history of NBA, but there have been only a few players who were truly inspirational, Larry Bird was certainly one of the few.

Larry is the BEST
The perfect song for Larry Bird.
I remember watching this live on NBC. This was a GAME!!!!!!
It kinda gets me teary-eyed when he comes out of the locker room and everyone in the old Boston Garden is cheering out his name. The old garden was great
This was one of my favorite videos from childhood. Thanks for adding it on here!
GOAT
Before the Internet, TH-cam and 24 hour sports highlights, the NBA Superstars series was a must have for the home VHS entertainment collection.
I love you Larry Bird
Me too!
GRAZIE doctorpepper91, mi hai fatto tornare indietro nel tempo ai miei 20 anni!! Larry number one forever!!!
MY 2ND FAVORITE PLAYER EVER. LARRY BIRD IS THE EXAMPLE OF THE WILL TO WIN IN BASKETBALL.
Never leave Larry open.
I kinda get sad when I see Larry n magic Jordan old guys now it's depressing
Happy Birthday Larry Bird!!!!!!
If i look in the dictionary for the meaning of "Clutch," there's no better example than Larry Bird!
Love this! I had this on the original vhs tape. Thanks for sharing!!
He has his hand in his pocket at the beginning of a 5th and deciding game. What can you say. This guy was cooler than the other side of the pillow. Talk about confidence. LBJ could learn from this.
ho la cassetta dove c'è questo video... avevo 10 anni quando la guardai e grazie a ciò sono tifoso dei C's!
Bird didnt have the athletic ability of Jordan or the skills of Magic but he had the heart of a champion and i laugh when people say he couldnt play in todays nba, larry bird could play with anybody in todays game
You're saying Magic is more skilled than Larry?
Magic would argue with you on that one.
He’s The goat
boston has some of the best fans IN THE WORLD!!!
nba superstars 2 lol , i watched that tape like 300 times when i was a kid ahaha
LEGEND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bird wae as all heart vs Indiana in 91
La bestia! El Bird
i think it is...i'm not american neither up to 30 years old but i hav the nba superstars 2 LD and yes...this is THE music for him...
Larry was just a blue collar player. He was not athletic, but he new the fundamentals and was tough and intelligent.

Bird was a better passer too.
I coached B-Ball for 16 years. This guy is in my book the greatest all around player ever. Michae Jordan was great but not like this guy.l
Did Bird ever make the all-nba defensive 1st team? Just say he's your favorite player instead of capping.
LeBron wishes he was this good
I TRIED TO PLAY BASKETBALL LIKE LARRY, MAGIC, MJ AND CHARLES. THAT WAS MY LOVE FOR THEM. I PLAYED TOO HARD BECAUSE I WANTED TO IMPRESS ONE GIRL AND I DEVELOPED OSGOOD SLATTER IN BOTH KNEES. The NBA has never been the same since the 80s and mid 90s :(
The best of the best best bird you better have something
Larry was not a great athlete. He was a great basketball player.
anybody know why the Celtics never hired Larry as a coach or GM? I've never understood why they didn't hire him but the Pacers did.
@Cardigans5 when did they die?
for my larry is the best ok of this game
The year when Bird won the shootout is 1988, not 1987.
Larry bird won the three point shootout 3 times including 87' and 86' please research these things before posting.
Where I could Found that Movie?
no i wasnt talking crap, i agree with you though
Could someone please tell me the name of the player at the 0:16 ????

@olschoolchevy HAHAHAHA you know nothing about basketball if you think Kobe is better than Larry "Legend" Bird....
@Cardigans5 Len bias, wow he reminds me of MJ when he was young, he could have been real competition for MJ that 4 sure
