Son-in-law just bought this game. Brought it over to play. I couldn't understand it at all. So I found your video here to try and learn. It was very fun to watch you play. But I'm sorry to say that I just don't have the IQ to ever understand how to play this game. Thank you for sharing the video though. Great fun.

Appreciate you taking the time to say as much, Chris. Glad you enjoyed the video, but sorry the game wasn't for you. There are lots of games out there of differing levels of complexity and depth. Hopefully you can find one more to your liking! Cheers.

Very nice play through. Excellent presentation of board and sound and even more important I liked both players personalities.
Since it was billed as a teaching video I do feel a need to point out a few mistakes made in the game. You kind of caught the big one at the end where you were giving whoever had most UN influence +2 when you only get that when you play the agenda card. Helpful to put agenda marker on this space instead of card. This was not just a back and forth mistake as USA got +2 in first round (actually +1 as correctly maxed out at 5 which should have only been 4 but I digress) . In 2nd round USSR played card with no def con symbol by event but used it for its 3 influence points and didn't raise world opinion def con by 2 as you always do if using card for its influence cubes instead of event.
At the end of the game if USSR had used its winning Television battleground to raise the political def con by one (keeping USA from getting 3 pts)it would have won the game. I guess back in those days TV was more important as today it is all about You Tube and Netflix. One last point is that you can only call it a run through if you are playing with an imaginary wife.

23:48 I would argue you cannot use event as in rules you read out you left out final part of sentence "If the opponent decides to trigger the event, it is resolved EXACTLY as if he had PLAYED the card himself (but on your turn)."

Great play through. Love TS but don't get to play it often enough. Really interested in this after seeing it played.

For the United Nations, you don't get 2 prestige. That 2 is a reminder that the personal letter agenda is worth 2 (that's also where you typically flag that objective).
I see that was corrected at the end.

Yup, that's on me. Ultimately tried to clarify by the end. Thanks:)

The "NATO" cards are actually UN cards - otherwise they would not be exactly neutral... 😏
In any case, 13 Days is a fantastic game. Feels like a knife-fight in a phonebooth (if some of you people remember those ;) )

Fair point, benji. :) And totally agree. An excellent tug-of-war. Thanks for watching!

first event by Amanda. Edward can choose to remove from Alliances area even though there is none. Think of it as a political pressure which only works if there are cubes in the area. If i am wrong then my game goes in the trash :)

I, uh, hope you keep the game but from the FAQ (boardgamegeek.com/thread/1541492/official-faqerrata): "The US player decides. He/she may only take the first option if there are at least 2 cubes to remove from Alliances."

I don't know the game so I'm a bit confused, is there an error at 42:10 regarding invasion of cuba card? Did Edward escalate the politcal track and lower the military? or am I still not quite understanding something?

Yup, I totally did move the wrong track. Well, that's embarrassing. Just simply grabbed the wrong disc. Great catch and thanks for watching!

Great video shows that the rules in this game are not clear. Too many questions even for two, professionals … ergo not a good Game.

So let's see if I got this right: if you add/remove n cubes, your defcon track changes by n-1, and so the rate of defcon track changes per cube is (n-1)/n = (n/n) - (1/n) = 1 - (1/n). This is smaller the smaller n is, and larger the larger n is. In particular, the defcon-change-per-cube rate is 0 when n=1, it's 0.5 when n=2 and 0.666 when n=3.
The tactical implications is that if you want to maximize the number of your cubes on the board per defcon increase, you should use small values of n to place cubes and large values of n to remove cubes. For example, if you place 2, place 2, remove 3, your defcon track goes up by 1+1-2 = 0 and your total number of cubes on the board goes up by 1. Likewise if you just place a single cube with a 1.
There are probably many other factors that go into those decisions, several of which are more important, such as wanting to have a majority on a certain track or in a location which impacts a certain track, and you only have so many cards, and they have event texts, and so on. But hey, the math told us _something_ :-)
