Kudos for mentioning 'Salem's Lot', perhaps the scariest made for TV movie ever. I was 9 years old, and my mom let me watch it. I was afraid to look out my bedroom window for weeks afterwards, thinking I'd see a vampire scratching on the glass, begging to be let in.

@@Borella309 Yeah, I feel like the '60s was the decade that changed the most when you LITERALLY compare the beginning of the decade, to the end of the decade!!! Seriously, comparing the year 1960 to 1969, it seriously feels like you're looking at two completely different time periods!... 😳😱
amazing how time flies not that I was around in 1979 but just thinking it wasn't that long ago the 1970 video dropped and another series is done. I'm guessing either 1960's or the 2000's will be next. Of the two I'd love to see 1960's for the history as I grew up/college in the 2000's. Love these videos and can't wait for the next decade
All in all, a pretty good decade as I was 20 in 1970. I did a lot of traveling and saw a lot of very cool things. Feels like the decade of the cassette tape. I had good jobs, nice cars, a few girlfriends, and I can look back on the '70's as a nice time in America.
1979 was the year my dad started his battery business. Specializing in buying and flipping junk batteries to recyclers while picking out the newer, undamaged units and reconditioning them...started it in a literal shed-like building on a main street, grew to 3 locations, back to 1 location in '85 when he built his big shop...sold out in 2021 and is retired now. What a run. Crazy to think how much the world changed during that time and all of the challenges along the way, from the recession of the early 80s to COVID, pop's saw it all. Great vid. Great year.

I was in college in 1979; my friends and I used to say that if Bo Derek is a 10 there sure are a lot of 15's walking around. Alien's release was a big deal, they publicized it for months leading up to its release but no one knew what the Alien looked like. With about twenty minutes left to go my girl friend told me she couldn't watch any more and would be in the lobby; it is probably the most intense ending of any movie ever. There were a number of Iranian exchange students at my college, all from wealthy families. When the Shah was deposed they all vanished almost overnight. They failed to mention that American made cars in 1979 were complete junk, the 80's would be the decade that Japanese cars began to make huge inroads into the market.
I can't wait for the 1960s, 50s , 40s ,30s, 20s, and maybe 10s. I don't know but i do love watching you guys making these videos and putting a lot of time into them and learning about world culture. I'd say thank you and have a happy new year!
Whenever I think of 1979, my first thought is of the Smashing Pumpkins song. Lead Singer Billy Corgan turned twelve years old in that year, and considered it to be a prominent year in which he really came of age.
Richard Petty won his 7th and final Championship with 5 Wins with the most notable win of the 1979 season being in the Daytona 500 where he benefitted from Cale Yarborough & Donnie Allison crashing each other out on the last lap resulting in the big fight between Cale Yarborough Vs The Allison Brothers (Bobby & Donnie) as well as setting the foundation for NASCAR's influence in Pop Culture for generations to come
Absolutely love this series. If they ever put out another one of these Timeline series, they should definitely do the 1960s. There was so many things that happened during those years, it would be awesome to see it broken down into this timeline series.
It's always fun to watch a video about the year one was born, but in reality it's more impactful to watch videos about those years in which one was an adolescent, because the memories are there and can be revisited from an adult perspective now.

22:30 The "Salem's Lot" mini-series is truly a masterpiece of the vampire genre, being almost on the same level as "Let the Right One In", and one of the best adaptations of Stephen King's works. The window scene is undoubtedly one of the most memorable in the story of horror movies. Its 2005 remake with Rob Lowe isn't bad either. What beautiful times when vampires were terrifying creatures and not shiny emos made to wet teenagers' pants...
Indeed, the window scene kept me restless up @ night checking my own bedroom window, terrifying for sure. I know time passes and things change, but been an avid vampire movie lover I was disappointed to see the turn it took irrigating those young ladies panties. I love Christopher Lee’s portrayals of Dracula, even Dark Shadows the movie was good, hell even Vampire Circus was scary, and so was Count Yorga I and II I appreciated Francis Coppola’s Dracula as well,, these were terrifying creatures of the night for sure, even Blacula was.
@@NinjaRunningWild Dude, it was possibly the best vampire movie ever made. In fact, it's considered by many one of the best movies of the 21st Century. Why it's stupid according to you?
I’d heard about the incident with The Who concert. Apparently they were starting to rehearse for the show and the fans waiting outside thought the show was starting when the doors still weren’t opened and so they forced the doors open and you know the rest.
Love you Weird History. But you missed a huge news event of 1979. American Airlines Flight 191 on May 25, 1979 which took 271 lives. I remember exactly where I was when the story broke. I was 12 years old buying candy at the Ben Franklin store in Mt. Pleasant Michigan when Mutual Broadcasting broke the news. It was on the store's PA system. @@Doug87969 Considering Timeline 2020 Weird History Should do the 2000s & 2010s completing the 1970-2020 Timeline Story Or the 1960-2020 Timeline Story
@@Doug87969 Politics have always been a thing. We just didn't have dozens of cable and social media outlets raking in money to spread misinformation like there is today.
@@NASCARFAN93100 I am not arguing they shouldn't do it eventually. I just think a lot of people are getting impatient. Shows almost never do 1900-1950s, even though there are plenty of old people still alive from then (I am not one of them). I feel like it would be interesting to learn about decades from the past. Maybe older decades only do 5 videos (2 years at a time) or 3 videos (3-4 years at a time).
@@Doug87969 Ahh
Kudos for mentioning 'Salem's Lot', perhaps the scariest made for TV movie ever. I was 9 years old, and my mom let me watch it. I was afraid to look out my bedroom window for weeks afterwards, thinking I'd see a vampire scratching on the glass, begging to be let in.
Feet fail me not...
Still creepy 👻 btw the kid Lance Kerwin just died 🙏🏻
Weird history never fails my Sunday morning…
PREMIERE GANG LETS GOOO!! ❤
Thank you Weird History for providing us great content from a decade my parents grew up and got married in!

Love these videos! Please do the 1960's next!
Too much rascism there 🤣
@@Jason.cbr1000rr 😂😂😂
Literally thank you so much for doing these timeline videos, I hope you guys continue this series!
Remember hearing of John Waynes death ' this was also the year the UK got it's first woman Prime Minister in the shape of Margaret Thatcher ' (Boo Hoo) and Earl Mountbatten was murdered by the IRA ' recall the year began with a severe Winter and strikes and industrial unrest.
Love this series. Hoping you do the 60s next!
The one thing that will never be the same is how much things changed from decade to decade in the 20th century, which made every decade so iconic.
I was only 7 years old at the time and completely oblivious to the chaos going on in the world around me. Then again, I suppose most kids were. I had my Star Wars toys, Lionel trains, Shogun Warriors, and I was happy as a clam! One vivid memory that stands out for me is that 1979 was the last year we lived in a small bungalow before moving into a larger house just a stone's throw away the following year.
Same. I was born in 1970. I had never realized just how turbulent the 70s decade was, but than kids weren't spending all day on the internet either. I was just a happy kid who loved to ride their incredible Hulk Green Machine Big Wheel round and round the block. Playing with toy guns, toy trucks, action figures. Remember the 6 million dollar man action figure?
@@ITIsFunnyDamnIT I sure do, and I had one! Remember the Evel Knievel stunt cycle? That came out around the early-to-mid 70's. That decade churned out some amazing and classic toys! I had the regular Big Wheel, and later on, a Huffy Thundertrail 78 bicycle. I wish I still had that bike!
"You Can't Do That On Television" came out in 1979!??! I saw the short clip of the chick getting slimed, on that "We'll be right back" moment... I didn't know it came out in 79 I thought it was all 80's!?!
I loved the seventies. I was only a child back then but I still loved that decade. I loved the eighties too. I moved in the house where I live in 1977. I've lived here for almost 46 years. I wish it could be the seventies again.
I'll binge watch the 80s and 90s now. I wish he would do the 2000s now... or the 60s
Man, isn't it weird when 1991 doesn't even feel that far away from 1979? Somebody call Billie Corgan.
this is the year I was born. Thanks for making this video. Loved it.
Aaaahhhh, what a decade! Thanks, Weird History, for continuing the Decades series. Very much looking forward to what's in store next!
Think the New Mexico prison riot was sometime this year ' and president Carters meeting with soviet president Breshniv.
Another great series. Looking forward to the next decade you all take on.
Love the Timeline series! Hope you folks do one on the 60s next. That would be groovy!
Culturally and Socially, the 1960s is the most amazing decade ever.
I'd like him to do the 60s next too even though I acknowledge that one will be quite challenging.
@@Borella309 Yeah, I feel like the '60s was the decade that changed the most when you LITERALLY compare the beginning of the decade, to the end of the decade!!! Seriously, comparing the year 1960 to 1969, it seriously feels like you're looking at two completely different time periods!... 😳😱
60s took off the blinders of delusion and denial many Americans believed
@@jacobquiroga626 I agree. The cultural 60s didn't really start until sometime in 1964. I've always viewed 1960-63 as a continuation of the 50s.
amazing how time flies not that I was around in 1979 but just thinking it wasn't that long ago the 1970 video dropped and another series is done. I'm guessing either 1960's or the 2000's will be next. Of the two I'd love to see 1960's for the history as I grew up/college in the 2000's. Love these videos and can't wait for the next decade
Bummer there was no mention of the '79 Daytona 500.
I love this series and this channel. You make learning history so easy.
NASCAR's Most Important Race
@@NASCARFAN93100 Best fight I've ever watched. 🤣
What a year..What a decade. Awesome!
All in all, a pretty good decade as I was 20 in 1970. I did a lot of traveling and saw a lot of very cool things. Feels like the decade of the cassette tape. I had good jobs, nice cars, a few girlfriends, and I can look back on the '70's as a nice time in America.
I'm too young to recall 1970 ' this is 79 the other end ' almost 10 years ' a big difference there.
The BEST series on TH-cam, undeniably!
Great vid. Great year.
I'm down for whatever decade Weird History decides to go over after Timeline 1970s
But I feel that Weird History should do the 2000s next, then the 1960s, then the 2010s completing the 1960-2020 Timeline Story
I want them to do every decade. Almost no show does 1950s and before. Since people still alive from 1900-1910, I would like to see if they could even do a timeline decade for something so long ago.
1950s
@@Doug87969 Yeah, just recently as of now, no one is left alive anymore that was born from 1900-1903! The oldest person STILL alive today, was born in 1904!
@@Doug87969 just write 1950s timeline and then 2000s timeline and you will se that big difference.
There is a lot videos about 1950s because it was american golden age.
But everybody skips 2000s and that was technological age. This decade was always praised as the FUTURE. But everybody forget it.
@@dragonlukasmapping805 There are So many reasons why the 2000s need to be in the Timeline Series as well as the 2010s even though they weren't as nostalgic as 1950-2009 they were polarizing just as much in their own way plus they had a lot of phenomenal movies, technology and weird stuff which shaped the way things are going to this day
Awesome, big thanks to the Weird History Crew for all the effort wrapping up the 70s!
Thanks so much for these great Timeline videos 🙏🏾 Which decade will you post next? Can't wait 🙂
Just binged the 70's.

Your videos are so extremely well-produced and entertaining. Thank you!
AMAZING JOB on the videos there a blast to watch!!!!!!! Cant wait to see what decade you do next.
You missed the biggest challenge of late December 79...my grandma passing. I was 12. She was my protector...my teacher...my grandma....i am the age she was when she passed....i still miss her.
May her memory be a blessing 🙏❤
My brother snuck me into the sequel Aliens when I was 13. I got home with such an adrenaline rush I couldn't sleep the whole night.
I remember seeing any outtakes of Mean Joe doing those Coke commercials and he had to down a lot of Cokes and boy did it give him gas.
Please do the 60’s and the 50’s, 40’s, 30’s, 20’s, 10’s. Pretty please?
I think 1900's too. (Still a handful of people from that decade).
@@Doug87969 Yeah, but most people born in that decade, probably don't even watch TH-cam, lol...
Ooooh yeah!!! Good call, and great song!
That's incredible. I never knew that's why he wrote that song!
"Coming of age"... please chose your words a bit more carefully...after all he was 12?
My memories living in London as a 12 year old ' couldn't imagine living there now.

Richard Petty won his 7th and final Championship with 5 Wins with the most notable win of the 1979 season being in the Daytona 500 where he benefitted from Cale Yarborough & Donnie Allison crashing each other out on the last lap resulting in the big fight between Cale Yarborough Vs The Allison Brothers (Bobby & Donnie) as well as setting the foundation for NASCAR's influence in Pop Culture for generations to come
And I was born! 😄
The fight was great, the news made Daytona famous. It's sad to see how Daytona has deteriorated, now even the beaches are wiped out.
Thanks, Nicole.
Absolutely love this series. If they ever put out another one of these Timeline series, they should definitely do the 1960s. There was so many things that happened during those years, it would be awesome to see it broken down into this timeline series.

I was born in 1979 too, which is why I watched this video. But I do feel really old...
It's always fun to watch a video about the year one was born, but in reality it's more impactful to watch videos about those years in which one was an adolescent, because the memories are there and can be revisited from an adult perspective now.
Same here and it's pretty fascinating!
Yea! The year i was born! 😁🥰
Are there anymore 79 babys out there???

Great work on these videos. Hoping for the 1960s next. I see suggestions for the 2000s, but that decade seems too recent to be reminiscing about yet.
It’s been 20 years, quite a lot if you consider that the average life span in western countries is around 80 or so
As someone who graduated in 2000, I totally agree with you. None of us want to feel old. The radio does that already 🤣
I wouldn't mind reliving my Childhood/Teen Years

That kid scratching at the window in salem's lot freaked me out as a kid lol
One thing I don't see this series get love for is the music, I love the beat when the 'Timeline' title card comes up.
Can't wait for 1980
Life seemed so much better back in the day, I would’ve loved to be around in the 70s. I’d trade all of the modern technology just to have a nice simple life like back then, people actually had to develop social skills and have decent values. If I ever build a time machine, I know when I’m going back to!
I truly loved this flashback in time! And the narration was spot on! Thank You so much Wierd History! Can't wait for the next installment! Let's go back to the 60's! Alot of
weird stuff definitely happened in that decade!👌😀
Anyone remember Paul Mcartney's drug bust whilst on tour in Japan? I think that was end of 79 ' he had a Christmas hit called Wonderful Christmastime out around that time ' this lead to the breakup of Wings soon after.

You guys do great work. Entertaining and informative. How have I been on TH-cam since it's inception and missed finding you guys?
I remember the Village people being so popular. It seemed that everyone was doing that Y.M.C.A thing with their arms (We all just had to learn it LOL) and they also released a movie with the Village people and the YMCA movement. To me as a 9-year-old, that was very memorable in 79, that and the Dukes of Hazard premiering on a Friday night I still remember that. You didn't mention whether or not you're going to do another timeline. If you do, I hope it's either the 60's or the 2000's
I thought I was losing my mind not finding 1979. Why the gap? I felt neglected. Now I'm cool. LOL
Aahhh yes, the walkman... made mowing the lawn, with a pushmower (that took 2.5hours total) so much better as a kid!!! 😂😅
1979 was a huge yr for me, and was definitely the end of an era when it was still safe to play outside till the street lights came on.
And then, after the street lights came on...
It’s probably still safe now.
Great look back. I graduated high school in 1979. Good times!
He hate these cans 😅 More CANS. When Navin finds out he is adopted. He almost scares his grandma to death when he finds the rhythm.
Damn it weird history. Now I need to rewatch the Jerk.
I was 8 raised by hippys and grew up around punk and rasta and this was the first year I remember feeling aware of the world and was took notice of stuff outside my childhood world and growing up in the UK 'Life on earth' was a huge part of that I still have a copy of the book with 'Happy Christmas 1979 love mummy n daddy xx' written in the front.
Source of countless nightmares for me 😂 put me off vampire related media for years
Indeed, the window scene kept me restless up @ night checking my own bedroom window, terrifying for sure.
I know time passes and things change, but been an avid vampire movie lover I was disappointed to see the turn it took irrigating those young ladies panties.
I love Christopher Lee’s portrayals of Dracula, even Dark Shadows the movie was good, hell even Vampire Circus was scary, and so was Count Yorga I and II
I appreciated Francis Coppola’s Dracula as well,, these were terrifying creatures of the night for sure, even Blacula was.
I flipped out when I saw the kid floating outside the window. It's still terrifying.
"Let the right one in" was stupid. Pick something better.
@@NinjaRunningWild Dude, it was possibly the best vampire movie ever made. In fact, it's considered by many one of the best movies of the 21st Century. Why it's stupid according to you?

I remember exactly where I was when the story broke. I was 12 years old buying candy at the Ben Franklin store in Mt. Pleasant Michigan when Mutual Broadcasting broke the news. It was on the store's PA system.
Go back to the editing and put that in there. It's still the deadliest aviation disaster in American History.
