After reading Jan's book I grasped that he was rather intelligent, a people person, sensual and appealing to many women and men, a free spirited, worldly, damaged from his upbringing and burdened by his drug addiction. They say that close to the end he was no longer himself. He had paranoid tendencies and destructive thoughts. It was difficult to save him. I still miss his voice though.

I'm reading it now. His upbringing was so very screwed up. He was so sensitive and torn between the guilt of his beliefs in God and woman, but in reality, it was OK. His father did that shit to his head.

I love people like Marvin - they are the rebels, the creators, the profound thinkers and feelers, those not in step with the rest of humankind, the intuitive actors. Marvin was fearless while, at the same time, full of apprehension! I wish Gordy hadn't meddled so much in his creative energy. Marvin was all about love and Gordy was all about money and power!

Lou Rawls was an international singer and his style of music appealed to people in all walks of life. Marvin wanted to be like Lou Rawls. Marvin was a rhythm and blues singer. Even though he tried so hard to attain the appeal that Lou had he couldn't. Marvin was a better singer though. I certainly do miss his voice.

Anna Gordy Gaye was Marvin's true love. She was 17 years older than him. Later in life they allowed others to break them up with rumors--both were insecure that the other wanted someone closer in age. The truth is--they loved only each other. Later affairs were to begin trying to outdo one another. Sadly, this album is an album in the midst of the pain. Marvin later married a girl 17 years his junior, but the marriage lasted a short time Jan Gaye would often say that Marvin's true love even during their marriage was Anna. Anna never married again. In Marvin's last days Anna was by his side. Hopefully they will meet again like he said--in a Funky Space Reincarnation.

The very first time i heard Marvin Gayes "Whats going on" back in Germany not speaking English i was mesmerized and it seemed i understood every word ! So needles to say i fell in love with his music and i could sense his struggle , because i struggled with so many things myself at that time ! I heard the pain in Marvins voice and i identified with that , but i did not take drugs ! Marvin i hope you are in Heaven , then i will meet you there !

What was moving was sitting in front of the television on that day and hearing Marvin sing one of the most unique versions of the Star Spangled Banner that anyone had ever heard. Soulful, yet Gospel with background tracks from "Sexual Healing." He was being rebellious in a sense because before him Americans took pride in singing it how it was written and were not really open to any other style. During that era they still looked down on you when you wore the flag on your shirt and would not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

I'm not going to lie, but we know that Anna Gordy was not beautiful. She was a Gordy with money. Janis was beautiful, and I'm not saying it because she was light skinned. Marvin loved Janis, and I'm not saying he didn't love Anna at one time . I believe that Janis was the love of his llife. Her body changed after she had children, and that bothered him. How sad.
I think that he would be more accepting of her body if he wasn't on drugs. RIP to all three of them 🙏🏽

Dat_Girl Scheryl R. Kelly is the only artist that is as great as Marvin whether people like him are not, definitely would have gave Marvin a run for his money, pretty much every thing Kelly do is basically a hit, can refute that and as soulful as Marvin, I think Kelly is probably more talented, I'm 64 years of age and grew up in the beginning of Marvin's career, in those days Sam Cooke was number 1 and Marvin was runner up, people forget about Sam Cooke but vocally he was the greatest black singer, untouchable, Marvin learned a lot from Sam!

A man full of demons but he got a great talent. He also was a snazzy dresser. Other than that he was most definitely not a person to look up to or idolize. And that is my personal opinion. He would never be a friend of mine. And that's putting it lightly. I always did enjoy his music, certainly not the person. 🎶🎧😱🐝
