Amazing example for the transformational period between high Renaissance and Baroque. What an entrance...
Everyone on Earth should wake up to this music. Absolutely gorgeous!
Ok boomer

I love how the Maestro Savall walks down the aisle with that black robe trailing dramatically. Truly, a prince among conductors.
Now THAT'S an entrance.
Truly superb on every level. It really doesn't get any better than this!!! Well, of course, it's my hero Jordi Savall. The definition of sublime.
LOVE the entrance, I thought BATMAN the "Dark Knight" was coming in to conduct.
Almost excruciatingly beautiful! That such sounds yet remain in this vulgar world... Thank you so much for posting.
Magnifica e splendida produzione!
I love Monteverdi, and Savall's interpretation is brilliant. Love the entrance! Now that's showmanship!
This is magnificent. You must watch the entire opera on DVD. Yes, it is a totally different style, one which inspires contemplation as much as musical enjoyment. Jordi Savall is a master conductor. Slow down, pay attention, and let this take you to another time on this planet and in our civilization
How grandiose and majestic is the opening, to be followed by a grave elegance...
Bravissimo, Savall!
Capolavoro assoluto!!!
An amazing work by Monteverdi and an amazing version by Savall who so well captures the Renaissance and Baroque flavor.
ORPHEUS, "Orfeo," is one of my favorite operas. The opening to Savall, in particular the lone mezzo-soprano figure regally attired in gold colors, playing the part of Eurydice, is as inscrutable as it is MAJESTIC.
Im very excited to be attending a performance of LOrfeo tonight, never thought I would be able to appreciate an opera even a few weeks ago.
Few persons remember that L'Orfeo is considered by musicologists as the world's first Italian opera of any moment or repute and Monteverdi, the progenitor of Opera.
Stupenda musica e realizzazione!
Incredibly inspiring and beautiful!
Magnificent the work of Monteverdi, magnificent the production by Savall! Simply Spendid.
What an amazing, happy musical marriage this must have been! He conducted the opera, and she was the diva.

You don't have to like it,but recognize Monteverdi like a revolutionary genius and he was!!!
By far, the best version I've listened.
best opera singer ive heard so far the song is so balanced and perfect
Wow this composer's music is excellent!!! I haven't really taken the time to listen to him since music history classes!
Éternel grandiose la musique baroque Delalande Charpentier Lully Couperin Bach Vivaldi Haendel Telemann Purcell Monteverdi Pergolesi Corelli Scarlatti Albinoni et tant d autres merci TH-cam.
This music is so ALIVE and bursting with energy and expression!
This performance is just amazing. Jordi Savall is a Grand Master of early music. 5*
Sensazionale entrata in scena!
That was a powerful introduction.
how is monteverdi SO GOOD? i only want to listen to this for the rest of my life.
Incredible and magnificent
I enjoyed it a lot. it was like being in the XVII watching the begining of the opera.
The singers is brillant. Sang like in those times! The Bl Canto stayed more than 100 years later!!!
Hi! I see that you wrote this comment 16 years ago - wow, you are an original youtube user! How has life been for you in the last 16 years?
Sublime and magnificent!

GENIAL - se reproducieron para el concierto
muy muy bueno
i was 3 years old when this was uploaded
Me too
The house and staging give this whole production an ethereal, otherworldly feel. The sense of drama is intense, but well played from an historical context! From the rusticated stage to her antiquated pale makeup to the luscious folds in her dress. This is high art on steroids.
Hi! You made this comment 12 years ago, how has life been since then?!
@@kangaroo967 A rollercoaster ride full of important life lessons for sure!!! What about you?
@@tsirtosky1439 I'm pleased to hear! 😄 Quite similar to you I suppose, I've had some ups and downs for sure but I reckon that things are going well these days :)
@@kangaroo967 I'm going through a tight very scary spot right now but at least it's on the brink of much better things
@@kangaroo967 What prompted you to reach out? I need somebody in real life who used Etch-a-Sketch as their social media name. Do we know each other?
although I'm on the brink of a lot of great new things I struggle with ending the old things and the transition is quite scary.
This is my favourite
Eurydice in the underworld...simply stunning!
Beautiful! I would love to see and hear how Savali handles the final scenes in "Poppea" - the soldiers' laughing chorus through the duet "Pur ti miro."
Savall's entrance is positively brilliant!!!!
¡BRAVO!
The first great opera written by a master of both Renaissance and Baroque music. This is the new style, as Monteverdi called it, "stile moderno", or "seconda prattica."
Wonderful performance and atmosphere.
Wow, just wow. I would give almost anything to have been at this performance. No one comes close to Monteverdi.
This tune in particular...I encourage anyone to listen to the Vespers if they haven't.
I love the sound of the instrumentals in this.
Opera is my FAVORITE MUSICAL GENRE.
Grandioso.
Music in paradise !
Música maravillosa. Un regalo para el oido.
la sua fantastica egocentricità! I love savall!
C´mon there is just one word left for this: MASTERPIECE!
Hahaha! QUesto è grandioso!!!!!
GRAN OBRA Y GRAN COMPOSITOR
Monteverde is the FATHER OF ITALIAN OPERA, indeed of all opera.
MAGNIFICENT!!!
Brilliant performance!
Grazie tante, Bacholoji.
Eres el mejor
La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi is my favorite Opera, but L'Orfeo (Orpheus [and Eurydice, as played in this section, "Savall"]) is my second favorite. Ironic, isn't it since this, the world's putative first Opera, got the whole pleasure train a rolling! She plays a stunning Eurydice, by the way. I spend my time looking for comparable performance in modern "rock operas." For I love rock n roll, AND ALL OTHER MUSICAL GENRES, TOO.
Maravilhoso!!
I saw his New York performance. Incredible addition to baroque music!
I love Jordi Savall so much.
sirgreii. that was epic, chill out and enjoy instead of being a cranky pants
Hai ragione, ma fichè Monteverdi vive in bocca a sti cantanti stiamo freschi :D
great. thanks
Sublime!!!
just start to learn "how to listen to classical music"
this renaissance music
Rafael Nainggolan this is baroque
@@vmark26 It's both actually but with discernible elements of the Venetian school which you can also find when listening to Gabrieli. There wasn't a clear cut between between Renaissance and Baroque in arts, more like a slow transition, especially in Venice it was quite slow since in essence their focus was on choirs and antiphonic style.
Oh... it's great, maybe not perfect (but no one is :)) I love Savall and way how he play music!
Terrific sound and video!
Great Jordi Savall! I fallen in love with him XDDD he is a GENIUS
@KonradlaTaccola
Actually, Dal mio Permesso" is correct. In mythology there were two rivers coming from Mount Elicona (sorry I know the names in Italian only), Permesso and Olmeios. To drink from these rivers was to gain artistic inspiration, so it makes sense that she would say, basically, "Coming down here after drinking from my beloved Permesso (and therefore now inspired), I am here." The original score also has "Permesso."
lovvvvvvvvvveeeeeeee it!
Now thats what you call surround sound
Jordi, ets el millor !! 5 estels.

génial!
