    This is a Heads Up Display, designed to be mounted to your dashboard or windshield. It connects to the OBDII port on your car, and will display all sorts of information, almost like another instrument cluster. The idea is instead of looking down at your instrument cluster, you can look at this quickly without taking your eyes off the road.
    There are a total of 95 different parameters that can be set, along with alarms for each. The main display is a 5-up display, and can be configured. Also, it can read and erase OBDII trouble codes from your car.

    Hi Jay, is the speedometer value configurable? I have changed my tire size and, while the numbers are not too far off actual, I would like to be able to see my actual speed displayed.
    Also, does this little guy have a odometer/tripometer?
    Thanks!

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope, the car is calibrated to the tire size set forth by the manufacturer. If you change your tire size, your speed will be off. A tool like this wouldn't allow you to configure such a thing, you'd need more like a "tuning" tool, way, way, more expensive.
      No odometer or tripmeter, that would require non-volatile memory. Also not very useful on a device that can be portable, and moved from car to car.
      Easiest way to fix the problem is to run the stock tire size.

    Hello Jay.
    Is it safe to leave this on 24/7, for ever pretty much? Or does it drain battery like other OBDs?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should power down a few minutes after the car is shut off. As long as it's doing that, the current draw will be very minimal. Yes, it does constantly use power, that way it knows when to wake up, but it's very minimal power. If your battery goes dead based on that alone after just a day or two, you have a bad battery or alternator. If your battery is more than 4 years old, have it tested, most times the auto parts store can test it for free.

    • @MastroOfficial
      @MastroOfficial ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaykay18 Thanks for the quick response. I mean in that case I could simply just plug and unplug it everytime I drive, right?
      And a last question, how do you mount this thing? Does it have glue or something? I think it does, looking at it, but won't glue be destroyed during summer when sun is hot as hell? Like, melt?

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MastroOfficial Don't ignore the problem if your car has one. Yes, you can plug and unplug it, but you;re going to wear that connector out in your car pretty quick, and where are you going to get one of those? Not to mention, there are a lot of wires to splice together to make it work.
      It has 3M adhesive tape as shown in the video. Will that hold in the summer? Depends on how hot it gets. If you clean the surface very well with alcohol to begin with and let dry fully, it should stay for a long time. If it falls off for some reason, you can employ any other method you see fit to keep it attached.

      Everything is designed to a price. Price it too high with too many features, and the majority won't buy it. Give it a lackluster feature set but a low price, and people will buy. If you can design a better one, go right ahead, but if you plan to have them manufactured and sold, with the features you want, you'll price yourself out of the market.

      Congrats bro! I've been driving my second ride for almost 2 decades now and done a few electrical mods to it in the last few years.
      One of the most enjoyable ones was wiring an led strip to the top of my dash and into the dimmable circuit, then aiming the damn thing at the board so it does not blast me in the eye even at low, but rather just reflects off the white parts of the instrument cluster...
      The most recent one was, blowing that fuze! :D So instead of replacing it and rewiring those led strips as a temporary solution, I just used a gps speedometer on my phone which actually made me fall in love with custom digital dashboards!
      ( heh, I live for custom shit, but thats besides the point )
      So now I've ordered one of these and being a graphic designer myself who kinda dabbles in coding ( a VERY LITTLE bit )
      I totally thought about modding this thing myself too!
      HIT ME UP MY MAN! For real!

    I have one and it works great, but I never saw a list of all things it does. Thank you

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe so. All of the cars I have ever owned have only had an oil light, and not a gauge. None have ever spit out a value for the oil pressure under even a high-level scan tool, I believe the pressure sensors are simply an on-off type device, with no reading in between. As such, the computer never reads that information.
      That's not to say other vehicles with actual oil pressure gauges on the instrument cluster won't output that data through the computer, but if you simply have an oil light, you won't get a listing for that.

    Does anyone know if the 'total mileage' setting displays the total mileage on the car, or just the total mileage for the current session? I'm thinking about buying one of these as the odometer screen on my car is broken so need a way to monitor the car's mileage. Thanks 🙏👍

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It cannot display the total mileage on the car, just for the current session. The mileage is stored actually in 2 places, in a chip in the car's computer, which an inexpensive device like this can't read, and also in a chip in the instrument cluster itself.
      To read the actual mileage of the car would likely require a dealer-level scan tool, something the average person can't get their hands on.
      A better fix is to call some junkyards and see if they have instrument clusters for your car and if they know the mileage listed on them. You might get one close. I had this problem on an old car of mine and bought one from a junkyard, the difference was only 2,000 miles.

      P0420 in a lot of vehicles is usually related to your oxygen sensor.

      @@Andrew.B-Nerdy The oxygen sensor is not the problem. The sensor is doing its job, letting you know that the readings before and after the catalytic converter are too similar, which means the catalytic converter isn't catalyzing the hydrocarbons effectively.
      Generally, if there is an oxygen sensor issue, you'll have other codes, and the vehicle won't run right. I've had that happen too, and replaced the oxygen sensor, which solved the problem. It did NOT solve the P0420 code that car also has!

      After the car is turned off, it should power itself down in a few minutes. Should be able to adjust the time in the menu,
