- This is a substantial improvement over the record that stood for a while, my 3:34:07. There is a new trick used to enter Goron Mines a little faster, but mostly the timesave is just from playing a lot better. I could still improve this and will someday.
This run has a neat historical component in that azer posted in chat partway through that he'd seen on a French forum post that Fyer will fix the sky cannon for free if you fail to pay him 300 rupees the first time. It turns out that this is true, but only when playing in French on the PAL version of the game, and it saves about 5 seconds in Any%. There's a good amount of talk about this in the last hour or so of the run.

I've attempted to watch this video like 8 times. keep falling asleep to it and waking up with it finished. then I gotta rewind to what I remember and go again. hopefully it bumps his watch time up every time I need to reset it cause I really enjoy his runs

Think you could speedrun the Wii version? Since you're used to the GameCube version, opposite for me tho lol
He's done a couple recently, did one on april 1st and at least one community race. He might have done more but those two were recent and off the top of my memory. Not only is wii version opposite it fixed some glitches most notably the long jump glitch with the boomerang, but also has its own glitches like fast iron boots. So it is kinda interesting to see how the routes fundamentally change due to things like that.
I ran it as an April Fools joke and have considered running it again, but there's something wrong with my sensor bar or Wii remote that makes the pointer not work half the time, so that takes some of the fun out of it.

Why did Midna want to get your attention so bad during the mines? Did it have to do with the routing? I've never seen that during casual play
Good question. She was trying to tell me it was dangerous to continue without a shield, and that prompt presumably exists because casual players are likely to accidentally burn their Ordon shields there. It looks as though I have a shield in the speedrun, but because I got it through Back in Time at the beginning of the run (the jumping off the bridge trick), the shield appears on Link's arm but not on the pause menu/in the inventory, so Midna thinks I'm shieldless.
Ive never thought to ask, but is there a lore reason why wolf link can jump further if midna hovers over to a specific spot? Like he isnt getting a running start and she isnt like grabbing and pulling him. Hes just jumping much further and more accurately
idk how much Midna weights but it does make sense that Wolf Link can make higher and longer jumps if he isn't carrying the weight of Midna.
I think the lore is that wolf link is too stupid to jump without guidance?
