Nailed it mate ,glad you had the balls to say it out loud because I didn’t , I actually typed a rant similar to yours about 3 months ago but didn’t post it because I thought there would be to much backlash Anyhow cheers from down south
Agreed. We all know inflation is killing the value of the dollar and limiting our buying options, but too many retailers and service providers are keep pushing prices far ahead of inflation. Anyhow...... I'd still prefer to have a boat sitting in the carport ready to go than a van taking up space.
The van is a means to an end...to allow us to travel some parts of our awesome country without costing us a fortune ...we tried rooftop tenting...hey we're in our late sixties...climbing down for a slash a 4am is a mission😂...
Most of us are more poor than we were 5 years ago but the wealth hasn’t disappeared, it’s just been syphoned into the pockets of an increasingly smaller group of people.
2016 i nearly bought a 4.2 BUSTA, brand new, was on special for 10k all in, on trailer with 4stroke motor (tiller) - okay, so add a center console and some bits, still not 30k lol - you are right, it's become insane.
New prices are crazy on caravans too , some 13' units for 70k , bigger units for 120k or more , that seems unreal to me . I have a boat , 3.9 stessl on a trailer that needed some work which I did some years back , 18 HP Tohatsu 2 stroke long shaft . I paid $750 for it . I also have an Embassy 5.5 trailer sailer on a good trailer to get rid of , under $2k . I'm about to turn 70 and have health concerns , keeping stuff makes no sense after a certain point. Qld .
That's the conundrum...stop buying, put it in pause...I wonder what would happen to supermarkets if we collectively didn't buy anything from them for a week! ...say 15 million shoppers stop buying for one week😂...
Do you even understand the cost of being in business these days? When you have workers who want 60 to 80 bucks an hour plus all their entitlements, yes, things are going to cost you more!
@officialWWM yes mate, been in buisness for over 25 years. Employee entitlements have not grown at the same rate as the inflation within the boating industry, not even close. There is the cost of doing buisness and then there is greed, unfortunately it is utter greed we are experiencing at the moment as well as inflationary factors i.e materials etc
Tell us what ya really think mate 😂. You’re 100% right though… it’s out of control! Little over 3yrs ago I got my 4.29 Stessco Catcher + 40 Honda & battery + Motorguide + Lowrance 9” sounder & 120amp marine deep cycle all the usual safety gear for $20k. If you go by CPI my 580 Formosa would be 50% more expensive to buy new now… it’s double! Safe travels mate
@@sportfishingjunkie ...I'd be hanging on to the 580 mate...one of the reasons I sold the Busta was that I'm looking for something a little larger. But for the moment Carol and I want to do some trips around Queensland. And a van is a comfortable way to do that with some independence... we're off to Alva for our first outing...8 rods packed! 😄
I’ve got a 4.6 stessl, 60hp 4 stroke tiller, basic trailer, $28k, by the time I put a decent sounder and electric motor I was up to near $40k, 2yrs ago. Got to remember everyone wants to be paid $100k a year
Just to think, in 2017 i tried to sell a 2010 quintrex 460 dory with a 40hp that had probably all of 10 hours use on Facebook for 10 grand, I paid 11,500 for it brand new in 2010.. I had callers non stop trying to tell me they only go for 4 grand lol. Glad i eneded up keeping it. i wonder what bath tub these fwits telling me it's only worth 4 grand ended up with.
It's a fickle market mate...I think there's demand for 14ft tinnies and plenty of 2nd handies, you can pick up for $5-7k all with old two strokes mostly... I was trying for $18k with brand new 55lb Motorguide etc...2020 model etc. Wound up advertising for way less, with only one enquiry...
The cost of things is high because everyone in the chain wants to be paid well. When McDonald's pays $32 an hour for casual workers, well let's just say everyone wants good money but to get things cheap someone needs to work for a pittance. Who wants to do that?
@@solo_dingo ...yeah, high wages are a problem too...but insignificant compared to what shareholders demand from companies...the boat building industry used to be populated by small manufacturing...brands like Quintrex are owned by big companies now that also own other popular brands. Wow... that's a joke. Mate, my suggestion... keep looking for a similar one owner job with lowish hours...but no doubt you're already on to it. Good luck, hope you find something soon...

Totally agree also with the fact there's land based fishing, crabbing and prawning and it's a lot less hassle generally

100% correct mate.
The dealers and manufacturers have got greedy.
The only way to put the brakes on these greedy pricks is to stop buying!

Went to buy a quintrex busta 420 brand new in sydney got quoted 22k! Ended up buying a 425 stessl hull only for 8k and an old 2 banger for 3k
