Thanks also for the fretting tip to go closer to sound hole.i get alot of buzzing while playing.i think it's a bad habit of finger placement.I will try your recommendations 😀
Using the very tips of the fingers was the most helpful advice for me. Keeping the thumb from sticking up was possibly a close second. At this very early stage for me, less than two weeks with this particular instrument, those two instructions are helpful in my struggle to play that basic G chord you're playing there.
Thanks so much I'm 3 months in.I have a bad habit of thumb overextended above. It's so hard to put it lower,I feel it cramps up my thumb and it also slips.Any other tips you could recommend?
Hi Pat! Thanks so much for your comments. Though old habits are hard to break... You might try leaning the ukulele closer to your first knuckle (base of your index) rather than further back closer to your thumb. This would lengthen your fingers a little in the front, and have the thumb come down a bit in the back. The challenge with uke is that the pressing hand is also supporing the neck, which often doesn't help technique. You could also look into using your strap more (saw you had one dangling in your videos! ;) and with it fairly tight, (uke high) could help you have a more relaxed pressing hand position, and lower that thumb, to again lengthen the fingers and have a better angle to press the strings... hope this makes sense! Anyway sounds great! :)
Yes! Sounds like you're on the right track. Should hurt less within a few weeks! Thanks for watching and for your comments! Glad you find these helpful.
I love the thumb placement too! I am learning to barre chords and had a REALLY hard time until I figured this out myself… I’ve been “learning” for about 2 years- holding thumb wrong. GREAT TIP TO LEARN EARLY😃
Wow thanks so much Louise for watching and for your feedback!! :) yes that thumb placement really helps with grip and wrist angle. once you have the pinching strength and a bit of callus on your fingers, I'd say it's pretty essential for barre chords. thanks!!!
Hi Penny! Thanks for your comment! The D chord it a tricky one... pretty squishy. Personally I like to use fingers 2 3 and 4, as they fit better for me. I made a video that teachses a BUNCH of ways to play D... maybe one of these will work for you? Let me know! th-cam.com/video/5uSi-kFC3VA/w-d-xo.html
I'm so sorry Jane! Sound is fine at my end, but some of my videos have been coming out more on one speaker than the other... try turning it up! I'll make sure my audio is more clear. thanks for the heads up. :)
Thank you
Great tips!!! The last one applies to me... 🤦♂️

Yes! Especially for a chord like G, that rounded finger position is key. Thanks so much for your comment!!

Really helpful thanks. I must admit I do tend to get a muted sound and struggle using my finger tips as they get sore. Early days though.

@@PierreHacheMusic thanks!! I'll try that!! Thanks for the reply ..much appreciated ☺️
I like the idea of keeping my thumb down because as I start to play my thumb goes up and then I don't have as much reach
Ya really helps! :) also holding the uke up high has a similar effect.
Try playing a song or two without the left thumb. You'll learn where and how 'not hard' you have to press a fret very quickly.
great tip!

Can't hear you. Too frustrating to watch 😢
