  • This is how i modifie a sonoff wifi switch to give a volt free contact output this lets me use this device to control many other devices that have a low voltage control circuit or a circuit that needs isolation from mains voltage this will now let this device to be used to upgrade simple dumb EV chargers to timed chargers or even some smart chargers that for some reason do not want to do timed charging . this will be followed by a vidio showing how i fit this to a EV charger

    Very good video on mod for Sonoff Basic. I just completed the same for my Basic RFR2. Now, I have it attached to my GDO and can also use a 433 MHz remote to open/close the door. Of course it also have voice and manual operation.

    I like your method. Moving the fuse makes this mod much safer. 👍

    That was a really clear explanation. Thank you.

    Suggestion for a slightly simpler way to do this mod. All of these steps are done on the non-component side of the SonOff Basic R2.
    1) De-solder relay output wire to Neutral terminal (as you did).
    2) Cut entirely through the pc board/trace at the point that is common between the fuse lead, and the relay output lead.
    3) Route the de-soldered relay output wire from "step 1)" into the pc board's corner notch, and solder it to the relay output solder pad from "step 2)".
    Confirm that there is no continuity between mains/input terminals and output terminals.
    No need to drill holes, or relocate the fuse. Just one through cut of the pc board.

      The best comment of all. One more modification: no need to desolder relay output wire. Just clip at the base. See modified pc board: drive.google.com/file/d/1f8e6tSo0xO5eKkBqah9tm0bMX9CBDVor/view?usp=sharing

    After Modification, to which terminals will the Motor be connected ( Relay Terminals Or the Initial Output Terminals)?

    Which of the Sonoff requires no Modifications?

    Why modifie the Sonoff? Just add a extra relais (110 or 230V) at the output for the same result.

      True. Some ppl have done this too . But for me I use this way to keep things simple and under one cover. I only drive external relays and contactors. If I need to control a larger current load . But I would advise ppl to do what they feel comfortable with and understand.

    Hi Skipp, Hope this finds you well, My 6 month old Sonoff basic R2 konked off ... I tried changing the relay, but it will not budge, it will not come back on (sadly the original relay broke off while desoldering it out) (Also there is no glass fuse, its seems to be a 5 band 10 Ohms 5% resistor in its place inside a heat shrink tube).. Anyhow Funny though 5 other Sonoff basic R2's switches have been working for over three years perfectly well ... And this new unit circuit broke and I cannot figure what component has popped. ... I'd be totally thankful if you could guide me on how to fix this.

      Sorry. Late reply. I have to date not had to repair any of my devices . So can’t realy say what fails. Normal checks would be to test for voltages at the chips and the relay driver device

    is it possible to operate also 230V on the output?

    • @hotrex7779
      @hotrex7779  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean to control an external 230 v signal from some other device. Yes you can
      Note if you are switching. Dc. Then the current limit needs to be reduced. To prob only 2 amps it less

    Can I used this modification to run a 12v dc motor?

    • @hotrex7779
      @hotrex7779  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This. Gives a volt free contact that you can use to control any other device by controlling an external voltage source. Just be aware of the Amps limitation of the relay I would myself only run these relays at 50% load. For a longer life.
