    Around 44 minutes: Peter Brötzmann says that "there are many today from the Conservatories who can play better than me". Hm... when listening to his saxophone in Globe Unity Orchestra that is not exactly true. He had the most powerful expression of all.

      So many players nowadays are getting too good, but not learning to express the music as experiences.

      To play better is not necessarily to play with style or passion. Sometimes it is not the most technically proficient that have the most fans but those that put their own mark on the art. A certain unique humanity.

    • @larryjohnson7429
      @larryjohnson7429 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      he might be right about them being "better" I the technical sense but I think what he really means by that is that even though there are a lot better technical players than him, people are losing their intensity and creativity which was always much more integral to Brötzmann's work than talent

    For that Heintje song, Heintje had two number one singles in Germany in 1968. I think the one they played is probably "Du sollst nicht weinen" which translates to "You should not cry," which contains the lyric "Remember the years that still lie ahead of us
    Forget the day that leads me from you once." His other single that year was "Heidschi Bumbeidschi" which is a traditional Christmas song, but this also could be the song they chose since it's a lullaby about forgetting the pain and suffering of the world. Interesting that both of these were top singles in Germany in '68 while Brotzmann released such a drastically different album.

      People have a lesser attention span. I had a Finnish geochemistry professor when I was getting my MS. His lecture was 2.5 hours long. There were 6 of us in the class and we all paid attention the whole time. Twenty years later, my attention span is about 1 minute long. Thanks, internet! :)
      However, the crowd here looks like they are listening quite attentively.
