Lost Donkey Seen With Herd of Elk

- Five years ago, Terrie Drewry lost her favorite donkey named Diesel. The donkey ran off during a hike after getting scared by a mountain lion. Diesel was spotted on a trail camera several months later but the search ran cold. Now, a remarkable event has happened. Max Finnell was out hunting in Auburn, California, when he saw a donkey with a herd of elk. Apparently, it's the long-lost donkey that was once taken care of by Drewry.
Love that the owner let the donkey stay with elks to protect them.
what about the mountain lions? they'll starve
@@HK-ce2lj well, he can’t save the whole world, but only his small family that took him in.
@@SC-qg9jllol love this
@@HK-ce2lj😂😂😂
@HK-ce2lj lol, no they won't
Donkeys can be fierce protectors of what they consider to be "theirs".
Fierce defenders of their *family*. Seeing it as capitalistic possession is a weird human thing.
My father in law raises cattle and has a few Donkey's mixed with the herd to protect them and deter coyotes and other predators.
Yes, I agree with you. I could see on the recording that he is protecting the herd of elk.
I’ve heard of a ‘Guard Donkey’ before. They have a powerful kick.
@@M_SC Why do you have to bring capitalism into everything? I think that's a weird human thing that you easily demonstrate here.
After 5 years of living free and becoming master of his universe, I'm glad his owners loved him enough to let him be.
my sentiments exactly
I loved that so much, too!! The most loving choice❤!
I am fairly certain that donkey won't be easy to find or catch.
He's probably would be too much trouble to keep at ranch. He's wild animal at this point now.
But what if he's actually waiting for his humans to come and take him home ? Diesel's humans should at least go down there, make contact and decides whether Diesel wants to come home or stay with his new family. I mean if I'm missing, I certainly want to go home.
At this point in Diesel’s life it wouldn’t be a rescue, it would be a kidnapping.
Diesel is impressive.
He was out there living his best life!
Right! He wasn't lost. He escaped 😂🎉❤
He’s an invasive species out in the wild though. It’s not natural so they should catch him
Diesel don't give no fkcs
Diesel should have his own biography movie called “The Ass and the Furious”!
This might trigger some Safe Searches. 😂
Could also be the title of a movie from a much different genre 😂
😂😂😂
LMFAO
@@ThatGuy1242
Ahahaha 😂
Owners of sheep sometimes include a donkey as a protector of the herd.
That also why you sometimes see a random llama on farms?
Bless you all❤ let him stay free I have total respect for you
me and my father have incorporated a donkey with our few cattle and bulls
Wow this is crazy so cool at the same time, good to know
Diesel has a full-fledged backstory and hero journey. Take notes Disney. We need the Diesel saga.
Diesel's life story is great for a great animated movie about his life from birth on a farm to life in the wilds as a herd guardian protector of a herd of Elks.
Yeah, and I'm going to provide that saga once I get to work at Disney.
I'm not kidding. I've got a LOT of great movie ideas that Disney should use, and yours is one of them.
In time, Diesel's saga will be one of Disney's GREATEST animated new films!
@@elizabethvandecoevering6042 Yep, couldn't agree more! Diesel's life story could make a GREAT Disney animated film!
Even the donkey now recognizes as an elk . Wtf ! 😆
@@elizabethvandecoevering6042 The mountain lion will be the final battle
Our man diesel just doing side quests
He's on a Skyrim side quest rampage.

This comment is highly underrated.
This whole segment was hilarious. Godspeed Diesel!
I read an article saying that the guy who spotted him referred to the group as a “mixed herd.” 😂
It made me laugh too, especially the way the guy was telling the story and seeing the donkey with the elk 😂
LOL. Shout out to Max for noticing this and giving Diesel's human family closure!
Yes, I'm sure they've been worried about him and seeing him not only alive but doing so well must be a relief even if it is bittersweet.
Thanks for letting him live the life we all wish we could. ❤
To live wild with elk?
@akenjah Sure, I don't understand your reasoning. My donkey is boss over her horse mates. Why not, elks ? Freedom from human control is living life. ✨️
@@akenjah😂😂😂
Yep..plus diesel can always be protecter of those elk❤
@@akenjahif he is happy, why not?? Havent you heard about plenty of man live in stranger's land.. blend with foreigners, and they live happier lives better then in their own homeland?? To be happy, you don't need to ve with your own 'species'. Sometimes other species wil treat you better, appreciate & respect you.
This would make a great children’s book!
As well a great animated movie.
@@elizabethvandecoevering6042For real.
Heck, the Mountain lion could be the villain in it
Ha ha ha, it would! So funny! 😄 But also makes sense.
@@DylanoRevs In deed the Cougar would make a great villain in the animated movie based on Diesel's Life.
This is a beautiful story. Diesel not only sitting in with the elk but he’s leading them. The elk could’ve teamed against Diesel but they instead decide to follow his lead.
I am fairly certain the donkey is the brains of that whole outfit!
@@culcune 😂 Just like human politics
there's no reason for them to team up against him, he's no threat to hooved animals! mountain lions on the other hand lol...
This is such a great story. He’s free,he’s earned his freedom. Would be interesting to see his offspring 😮
😂 I don't think he's breeding.
@@shylohsturm493 Well infact a young Donelk is quite tender and the taste is similar to veal.
@@adamsons2890Boooooooo! Get outta here! Booooooo!
Didn't know they could mix...
Booooooooooo!!! 😂😂
How did he join his newly found family? Applied for citizenship maybe?
@@joethugwana4713 🤔 maybe,lol
If he wants to identify as an elk, we should respect that
This story is from California, after all...
🤣🤣🤣
Why does this sound gay?
Is no one bringing up the fact that he killed a damn cougar!
Well, they *suspect* it was him. Who knows...if so, I'm definitely impressed.
Honestly glad they’re letting him go free
Those elk clearly need the protection
and now he's one of the boyz
I never would have thought 🤔🤯
That would explain why the elk follow him
Hollywood should make a movie or TV series about this brave donkey becoming an *Alpha leader* to an entire elk herd! 😃👏
Indeed, and make Eddie Murphy the voice actor 😁
@@onlythereal3389 Haha lol yeah 😆🤣
It's only a matter of time now, lol
How would that be tho like the the lion king?
That's a fantastic idea!
Wow to survive and he isn't lonely, has friends, and he can kill mountain lions? Diesel is a legend!!
I am guessing the lion had hold of an elk and wouldnt let go, so Diesels hooves did the talking. Astonishing!
Man not only survived, he thrived
That story is SO awesome...it made my day!
We had donkeys in with our livestock, bad asses when protecting
i see what you did there
At least they weren’t jackasses
Literally 😂
Bravo 👏👏👏
When we had a donkey nothing would even dare come close to the property.
Awe, I would want him home , but he seems pretty happy ❤❤ you go Diesel 🎉🎉🎉
I love these stories where a lost animal (or child!) is taken in by a group from another species. We all instinctively look for protection/relationship within a group and its comforting seeing it across other beings in our world.
A donkey can most certainly take out a mountain lion, I saw one time a donkey bite a full grown man on top of the head and lift them up off the ground like they were a feather.
😂🤣🤣 lord i hope the guy is ok but i laughed so hard
@@TheWannabmodel Needed About 100 stitches and lost a wee nip of the top of his right ear, but he was okay.
Well now you've made me afraid of donkeys
Sounds terrible! DId the guy do anything to provoke him, or was that donkey just loco?🤔
@@khakicampbell6640 Just kind of poking around, standing by its food and it's space. It was kind of funny because after it did it, kind of just trotted back a couple steps then gave him a look like yeah that just happened, now what. The guy didn't even know what happened for a little bit, he thought somebody came up behind him and whacked him with a beer bottle or something.
Imagine those elk watching him dispatch a mountain lion! And I like her answer, let Diesel reign!
So cute! Diesel looks happy! 😊
"And he's apparently moved up in life" is wild😂😂
What kind of crazy weird scenario is that donkey killing that mountain lion....
They have a killer kick(donkeys). It is very possible the mountain lion tried to kill some of the elk and he protected them. It is not uncommon to have one donkey out there with your herd of sheep bc they will protect them from harm.
Donkeys protect life stock on farms, they kill coyotes too
@@alienandroid2012You beat me to it lol. Donkeys have generational trauma from cannids. They don't put up with schitt anymore!
Remember that guy who was bragging about killing a mountain lion with his bare hands, etc etc? Then come to find out it was a 30 pound orphan...😢😢😢
What a douche. Anyway it coulda been a small lion, who knows.
@kalipw0210...A kick from a donkey can kill a full grown man.
Guessing a mountain lion wouldn't fare much better if it took that same kick.
My boi living his best life!
Diesel went from being spooked from a mountain lion to protecting himself and his herd from one. That donkey went through some serious character growth.
This makes me want to eat onions for some reasons...strange...
Donkeys have sleeves, but ogres have layers.
And waffles! 😂
Sploosh😂🍑 🧅
That Donkey has LAYERS!!!
@@alanhelton Of course, I'm sure there's Quite a few layers of mites fleas ticks and mange.
thank you mam for allowing Diesel to run with his heard
That was so sad seeing the trail cam all by himself wandering the forest. So glad those Elk took him in and showed him how to survive in the wilderness.
new found respect for donkeys and this is the feel good story of the year for sure.
That's not a donkey. That's a noble steed. 🤣😂
Aw, Shrek.
Diesel powered elk herd!
good one, good one
@@Kettvnen haha. Thanks!
Hold on a min... Diesel was scared off by a cougar, and five years later-ish, a warden finds a dead cougar.
I'm suddenly imagining an epic story of life and rite of passage where Diesel was hounded by the cougar for five years and always ran away... until he was accepted into the elk herd and they became threatened by his old nemesis. With something to protect now, Diesel faced off with his tormentor and walked away as the winner and alpha of his adoptee family.
They will write songs of his legend!
Wow what an amazing cute and funny story. My reaction is the same as the guy that spotted Diesel lol.
Diesel is adorable. 🙏🐴❤
The donkey is the alpha male of the elk herd 😂 thats one cool donkey.
I love it that they let him stay with the herd❤
Donkey's should never live alone. They need social companions which is why he was hanging out with the elk.
Beautiful video!! Love this story! 💛😊
I'm so happy for this donkey! He was accepted by an elk herd and has found a new family that loves him❤😊
why is this so cute
The donkey just wanted to be away from Shrek
😂 did you see how uncomfortable the donkey was when she kissed him.
@@Inferno45 yes lmao
If Donkey left Shrek alone
Diesel is the alpha now 😈
Wow! So mean!
This is the best story I've ever heard ❤
Herd
I assumed elk would tower over a Donkey but surprisingly they weigh similar to female elk, about 500 pounds
That's awesome.. .to see Diesel the Donkey with the Elk herd. And on another note that man in that hat that came across that, ....niiiice 👌 😉
Mmmm Caramelo Cowboy. 🧑🏽🌾 Niiiice 👌😻
I’m glad that the owner is letting him be free instead of trying to force him back home. I love that she recognizes he’s happy and living his best life in the wild. I wish Diesel a long happy life
Diesel said I'm nobody's pet or beast of burden... I'm my own wild animal!! 🤘🐎
Story of the year!
Wholesome and also badass at the same time
1:27 He was like Lovelace in Happy Feet. He's seen the aliens and he's surrounded by girls 😂
donkey has his own gang now 😂
Bless that man for bringing the footage to everyone's attention.🤔🤗🤗🤗😔
The hunter who found him seems like the chillest guy ever
Wow something of a movie, once a tamed donkey now part of the wild. I had no idea Donkeys can kill a mountain lion. If he takes down a bear, he will forever be a legend among the elks.
A great ending for him 💝 living free ❣️
that's awesome! Love that the owners let him be free! He did earn it!
Love this!! They accepted him!!
Can't wait for the movie!!🐣
Elk : “Yo, you see that strange elk that stomped out that mountain lion? He should lead us…”
One of them is not like the others
Diesel was ready for that mountain lion in the 2nd round. He said: "Catch these hooves, how bout dat! 😂
They actually bite and bite really hard and persistently. They can be relentless. Bar a bear, nothing can touch a rugged donkey in these hoods.
What a wonderful Story thank you ❤️🌹
So we're just gonna ignore the fact of matured wild animals adopting another matured animal into their herd? Not to mention, one that is of a different species?!
Coexistence is a thing and there is a mutual relationship between both the donkey and the elks. Donkey can watch and protect the herd while the elks provide company and places that have lots of food to eat for the donkey. It's my hunch but that's how I see it
@@bjuganda7758Yes it is not uncommon to see in nature different species having a relationship that mutually benefits everyone. The first example that comes to mind is sharks with pilot fish.
Not to mention that the donkey might also be the alpha of the pack lmao.
Good on the former human owners to let Diesel live free. He's got a good life with the herd.
God bless that 🐴
He seems happy.
Is it possible to be in love twice at the same time, cause im in love with Diesel and Farmer Max and his cowboy hat.
That's amazing. It's so awesome to see the elk took him in.
A 2 minute news report has a better story and ending than anything Disney has put out in the past decade 😂😂😂
he's soooo cute😍, what a sweet story. He reminds of adorable Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
Donkeys make great livestock guards and alarms. If they see or smell something, they make so much noise. My neighbors donkey sounds like someone is being murdered when it goes into alarm mode.
What a story! This is awesome :D
Petition to protect Diesel's herd
I ❤LOVE ❤ this story 😍!!!
This is such a wonderful story.
I sooo need a movie about this! I've seen coyotes adopt stray dogs but I was shocked when he said the donkey had become the leader of the herd. How? We want to know the stories behind this! 😅
I'm so happy they allow him to live free ❤
What a story!😮
If a Elk and a Donkey could breed, that would be one tough SOB!
“I didn’t just survive, I thrived” -Diesel
Aww. I would still want to go see him so that he would like know that I missed him and didn’t forget about him.🥰
Me, too.
Donkey said: “no one scares me off my family TWICE!”
I don't know much about donkeys, and even less about elks.
But just from looking at the two, side-by-side... I wouldn't be surprised if the elks saw the donkey as a solid, powerful protector.
It’s interesting how social animals have the ability to coexist or even be subservient to an individual from a different species. That donkey definitely earned the right to stay with his elk family. It makes you wonder how many other lost pets actually survived with wild animals. I know of a case where a pitbull lived with coyotes so the possibility is rather high.
Let him stay with his friends, Jacks on a side quest 😂
There’s safety in numbers 🥰
What a lucky herd of elk!
In deed to have a guardian protector.
Killed mountain lion, claimed harem. Diesel is a total chad. Long live the Donkey King!
Oh my goodness!!
He is living his best life!!
The elk aren’t letting him roll with them, he’s letting them roll with him.
I clicked this video as a joke watch but god damn if the story of Diesel the Donkey didnt make my day wow, that's one badass haha
Diesel for president!!!!!😊
I love it! Diesel has a new family and he looks like they accept him
That's absolutely wild, I love nature
Diesel conquered his own fears! ❤Hallelujah!
And gained fallowers.
good for you for letting him live his new life
Glad he found him a family, elk family.
