Yes the Austro-hungarian empire being a multiethnic empire meant their army also was employing soldiers from every nationality was presented. I know it's a weird concept and it's sometimes hard to wrap our head around how they simply managed to function for so long 😅
@@HistoricalHavocHub It's not that it's a weird concept, but I doubt those Serb officers would've been happy to participate in this considering the backlash from their brethren 😬
@@ZS-rw4qq While I don't know, I suspect that understanding Serbian political landscape as monolithic is somewhat simplistic. After the experience of getting out of the Ottoman empire the opportunity of getting into AH was seen as good option by quite a number of people, especially in terms of economic potential. Would be interesting to get more information on the political situation at the time (as mentioned in the video - in Bosnia no resistance from the civilian population was expected, and Serbia was in a somewhat similar situation, as I understand it)
@@phonepoies Considering this happened as a conclusion of a three year long uprising (google Hercegovina uprising) led by the Serbs to unite with Serbia and Montenegro - I understand why they were disappointed. Having said that, historically a lot of Serbs did escape to Hungary and Austria, but these were times of Ottoman expansion, not decline. Serbs in Vojvodina and Krajina own their origin to these events, as they saw Habsburg rule preferable to Ottoman, but not preferable to independence. I guess Austrians not expecting resistance may come from this history of cooperation against the Ottomans, more than a rational analysis of the state of affairs at the moment

Finally,The Austrian army regained the confidence it lost in 1866!
I honestly wish they kept that confidence they had in 1878 during WW1.
Good content. Thanks for posting.
