Smart Parenting's first-ever daddy editor-at-large Joey Ong, who is also the founder of the DadbudPH Facebook Community for Filipino fathers, gives a tour of his family's "simpleng buhay" in the province of Cavite. He talks about why they left their condo unit in Makati for a more laidback lifestyle in the suburbs, and shares the joy of raising a toddler in a bakuran with wide open, and safe spaces.

jalousie windows are more better than sliding window if you want your house well ventilated as we all know sliding window makes the other half close as you open it,

Living in a big metropolitan area abroad like my current city, Montreal, Canada is a treat when I first moved from Makati. Then, I started feeling like my countryside life before is calling for a change.

I believe that the identity of children is contributed mostly by fathers. Strong men mostly have strong fathers. Daughters became wiser with their decisions growing up knowing that they had a father who tell them about their self-worth. Our ancestors brought their sons to hunt for food before coming of age. If you grow up without a father, remember our God the Father loves you, and you were bought for a price.

Metal roofing and cemented houses are heat conductors which will make the inside of the house like a real oven. I hope Filipinos will start making houses that are better for the heat like different kinds of sidings and shingles as roofs.

Nipa and bamboo house is the answer to the Philippine hot temperatures. Kung iiwas sa metal roofing instead use nipa or tisa malaki ang ibababa ng init.

In demand nga tumira lalo sa mga remote places kase sa city npka toxic na sa ibang bansa nga nagtatatayo sila ng community na malayo sa city...actually most of them mga youtuber na tumitira off the grid..
Meron pa nga they decided na mag vanlife to travel all around there places...kalimitan kase sa mga tao busy lage sa work or nakakulong nalang sa comfort zone nila nakakalimutan nila na maikli lang ang buhay dapat nageenjoy at gawin ang mga bagay habang buhay pa.

Kasi leaving sa aking nakikita ngayon mas maganda ang pamumuhay mo ngayon, kasi you have your own vegeis fruits and so on. At hindi ka gastos ng gastos kada kibot mo kasi malayo ka sa city. I think mas maganda tumira sa kubo kay sa condo.

I definitely dream of doing and living the same way like you guys. I don't want to settle aging sa city and I see myself enjoying mountains or the ocean as I grow old with my partner. But of course by doing so, we need to be financially settle nadin. In time we need to have budget for the house, food, meds etc. Kung pwede lang now na i would rather live in the rural peacefully with all those ambiance and fresh air where we can enjoy everyday. Just thinkingbof it makes me feel good and excited. 🥰😊🤍

I was opting before for a similar concept but bamboo and other natural materials used, l find it to be high maintenance. The bamboo needs to be treated every now and then. The nipa roofing l guess has a life span of 5 to 10 years. And if a strong typhoon comes, I am not sure how it can withstand very strong winds. But how l wish it's not so because a Bahay Kubo is actually a very beautiful house that blends with our surroundings.

Marami disadvantages ng ganyang kubo, 1) ay madaling magkaroon ng tulo yan lalo na dito sa pinas madalas ang malakas ang ulan at bagyo, meron ang tiyuhin ko niyan pero hindi umabot ng ilang taon may tulo na, 2) ay mapanganib sa sunog na kahit hagisan lang lang ng upos ng sigarilyo ng kaaway o inggit sayo ay madali masunog, 3) madali ngatngatin ng daga at peste lalo na anay.
