Funny you say that! Except I get even more specific. I say it was the time up until Bonnie Jovi's Slippery When Wet came out. I called the early 80s the Golden Age of heavy metal as it was more "Raw". I turned 13 in 1980 and am SO glad I was born when I was and got to experience that time period as my coming of age!
1980s, the best years for music, movies, games ecc ecc, but especially for heavy metal music for me. Exactly the opposite of present. I miss the 80s and true metal music. Simple and happy years! Regards from Italy
I found they have this on iTunes. I never heard of this band before. I’ve been listening to metal since 1982 and I’m still discovering hidden gems like this.
Exact same year as me! I was 14, and other than my buddies older sister having Sabbath's Master Of Reality on 8 track, when we were 10 in '77, I was introduced to metal when Priest's Screaming For Vengeance and a schoolmate ha # Of The Beast when it
You know , there is a certain magic about bands, like this, from the 80's. They are milestones in what was yet to come. These guys are underrated. You wouldn't really understand unless you were , of age, when this came out. Crunchy riffs and melodic vocals. Pure magic.
+69glamboy A week ago, I bought a compilation of the band called All That's Fit for Fighting. Great stuff great similarity with the NWOBHM. Includes 3 CDs plus a DVD concert of Live Dynamo Eindhoven Holland 1985 plus 5 video clips among them is, of course, this. Really amazing band!
+69glamboy You are 110% right!I'd never heard of Witch Cross, but I was there, being 13 in 1980 for what I call "The Golden Age Of Heavy Metal" and NWOBHM! Exciting time to be a teen! The early 80's were when what I term "Raw Metal" was coming out, before metal became all radio friendly with sappy pop ballads (although, I do like all kinds of metal or hard rock, regardless of the bands image).
I was born in 1990, so way passed that era, but I think the older I get the more I appreciate 80s heavy metal. Like you said, great riffs and great singing combo just sounds so tight.

I remember this from watching it on MTV when it was still good great band .I'm still finding 80s bands I've never heard lot of really good bands out back then like Powerlord
Incredible to have such a resonating spearhead of a voice in that register. Usually the mixed voice of a guy that sounds "like a girl" sounds whiney, but Alex Madsen comes off as powerful.

really like this band and their music style...great rock n roll... and as usual from the 80's era... some of the best classic rock of the century from 60's 70's 80's and 90's...
Wow! I was NOT expecting this to be that good! The song started up and I immediately rolled my eyes when I saw the guitarists posturing. Then that chorus made me raise both my eyebrows! What I love is the "power pop" flavor to it. Like Cheap Trick on steroids.
Gosh - o -mightee this EARLY heavy metal is UNTOUCHED in my book especially groups like this that somehow stayed under the radar.......yes this stuff right here is the BEST heavy metal EVER offered !!!!!!!!!

When comparisons are made about which decades had the best music the 80's always get slammed. That transition from instuments to music saturated by synthesizers gets a bad rap. Some bands made great use of them...others didn't. Also the New Wave genre came out with some pretty weird stuff. Some of those bands were awesome...many were just bad. Whether it be MTV, VH1, Rolling Stone, etc etc, critics have all had a turn at bashing the 80's.
+drexar123 Some of the 'Hair Bands' got bashed...like Poison and other glam rock groups. But I personally think some of those bands put out some incredible hard rock and heavy metal.
Oh yeah, they bashed heavy metal, as Michael Hersh said MTV, VH1, Rolling Stone hated heavy metal even at this time (1984). It was around 1986-87 that the big hair and heavy metal struck big, as far as the music media were concerned, as they were as always years behind what was actually happening in music. They buried metal in the early '90's as quick as they possibly could, but the interest in the bands continued whereas the interest in the shit they had promoted faded, so now we get to see many live shows, videos, etc. that we didn't back then because the idiot asshole sonofabitches wouldn't show it then.
Hey man! I would love to know more about the making of this album/ song and the band and why you left. Do you have an email or a way we could talk? Or a brief explanation on here would be fine but I rather really talk about it. Hope all is well. Cheers friend!
I had this song on a cassette for 25 years without knowing who sang it. I contacted a Heavy Metal music journalist named Martin Popoff and sent him an MP3, he immediately responded with Witch Cross.. I found the LP on eBay shortly thereafter and it is fantastic. I heard ONE of the reissues and it didn't sound good at all (compared to the vinyl I recorded onto CD). I am hoping the 2CD set someone mentioned does a better job. This video version sounds great.
I'm translating something related to the NWOBHM and thanks to that article I remembered that band. Pretty sweet! 5 years since the last time I've heard something from them :D
+redshaftedflicker This is a pretty good tun though! Right out of the Saxon and NWOBHM. Forget what led me here, but love it when someone has a bunch of mixed videos that has a video of a band from the early 80's and introduces me to something new! Checking out more Witch Cross right now!
I like how the voice is cranked slightly louder than the guitars on this record. A lot of obscure albums around this time period consist of loud guitars and muffled vocals and drums, but here it's evened out

actually theres alot more to the witchcross old metal release then discussed. we worked it out so the band was happy and the old label can smile in the distance. we left it as a 'bootleg' to keep alot of greedy hands out of the pot from the past.

80's metal....nothing beats it!
Except 70s metal?
Agreed. 80's Metal was the golden age of Metal. Nothing can touch it imo

I doubt they bashed 80's metal, maybe other genres of music, but metal had its rising and prime in the 80's and 90's
