There’s too much going on within hip hop to really pinpoint who is qualified, and too many biases. I’m in my late 20s and follow a lot of people who have been working in or around the music industry since the blog era and I see them throw around different names than my 20 year old brother does. Bro brought up Chiika, I never listened to her but she been making noise for years and had some freestyles go viral and had artist co-signs like Wale. I’ve seen people mention Doechii in recent months. The demographics are too sparse that everyone sticks to their niche artists and hardly pay attention to what else is out there. So when the list comes out, every demo is like who tf is that and try to discredit people they know nothing about. Just because you’re unfamiliar or not into is doesn’t mean it isn’t deserving. I will say that I didn’t know Santana ever made/wrote any music until he put songs out that went viral on tik tok. I just thought he was Young Miami’s friend and people just fell in love with their antics and his personality.
