  • This LEGO Connection is illegal…
    Did you know that some LEGO Connections are Illegal? Do they break your pieces? Today I build and explore several Illegal LEGO Building Techniques to see how easily they can be assembled with common pieces, and what actually makes them “illegal”. Along with this I use some of these Illegal Techniques to design and build my own custom lego sets. I build and potentially step on a super painful Lego build as well as build a weapon that I test out and the result was INSANE. There is so much more, stay tuned to find out!

    The grave piece they used on the haunted house set is actually slightly thinner than a regular lego plate/tile. Therefore it doesn't break the rules and cause the piece below it to bow out.

    4:17 this is incredibly useful for Stop Motions. If you need a quick, temporary wall, you can just take some larger plates from Minecraft sets and put them between bricks (if you’re putting two right next to eachother though, I recommend connecting them on the back, as it will help to close the gap and prevent one from falling over more than the other.).

    Use a straightened-out paperclip to remove those wedge pieces from inside your 2x4 brick. Anything small and thin that is rigid should work.

    So the lego designer behind the haunted house did a video on sticking a plate perpendicularly. He stated that doing it once with a smooth plate is fine as they are slightly thinner than plates with studs on them.

    For the transparent piece rule, I once stuck a transparent flagpole piece into another transparent 1x1 cone. they got bonded together and remain stuck to this day, and attempts to get them unstuck has left a fracture down the side of the cone

    9:19 that's literally what the bottom tubes are designed for... to be able to "squeeze" them between four studs.
    Have you ever looked at the bottom of a brick or plate? They have the same tubes and those tubes get squeezed between studs everytime you stack the brick or plate onto another brick or plate.

    4:33 LEGO uses flat tiles for such techniques, which doesn't put much pressure into plate, unlike a regular tile with studs. So, basically: flat tiles - legal, stud tiles - illegal.

  • @iansarmiento23
    @iansarmiento23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    That tombstone and plate thing is not an illegal building technique because that piece is thinner than the normal plate, just barely thin enough to make that connection not put any stress on the pieces, therefore the connection is legal.

    With that technique where you had a plate between the studs of another plate, that is illegal, as the plate is a little too thick for the studs. However, the technique that the people are likely referring to when they say that Lego uses it in their sets does not use two plates, but a plate and a tile. The tile pieces are slightly thinner than plates, and so, tiles don't cause stress when attached in this manner, therefore, tile between studs, yes, plate between studs, no.

    The sort of plate-in-stud side-linking (what should we call it?) used at time code 4:16 was actually used by Lego themselves back in the 1970's. Check out sets 609 "Aeroplane" and 644 "Double Tanker" as just a couple of examples. I am sure there are probably more if anybody cared to search.....

      @@crayonrando It's illegal now even according to lego themselves. They must have realized that it caused stress after making the sets.

    If you use the lil blue thing with the lever you could also make it a vending machine slot for coins or you can add it as a doorknob with a lock like you can twist it so it looks like you can lock and unlock it and a doorbell but the doorbell is optional cause it doesn’t quite look like a doorbell but it could be useful for builds
