    Great video editing. Quick and to the point. (My Craftsman riding mower won’t turn completely right which is how I found this video.) Good to know about this steering bar.

    Awesome video, well lit to see the parts underneath. My mower suffers from wobble at the steering wheel shaft. That repair is next. This video was very good to educate us, those with mowers just like this, that we purchased used.

    Hah exactly what i did but now thinking to add a turnbuckle or equivalent for more precise alignment

    You put it in backward. If you look, one receiving arm is at an angle and the other is parallel to the ground, just like the connecting rod. Swap it end for end and yours will fit better and not wear out prematurely.

      I see the tabs are bent for each side.

    Did a similar repair. I used a 5/8 deep socket. Cut off the square drive end. Cut a notch in it to hold the ball in the socket. Put hose clamp on first then the socket. Push socket toward end of rod and clamp it.

    From the way it fit in the steering arms, it needed to be bent down more. Cross axle appeared bent in last pic. Reverse the arm you straightened to go to opposite sides.

    I ditched the crap linkage and built one with heim joints on each end. Got rid of the worn bent stuff and made it adjustable. Didn't even cost $20.

    On my newer mower this bar is upside down from yours. Retaining clips (wire) are on the top.
    Interestingly mine don't have the 2 washers. How cheap is this??? Mowers like everything else are made to be disposable.

    Wait....how did you get it straight? Mine must be about bent in half because I have to fight with all my strength to make tight turns. 😳

      take it off and get medieval (bend it, hammer it, whack it, stomp it, run over it) to make it straight.

    i have a husqvarna with the wheels looking lopsided like yours were. when i go to turn around or go around a bush, the things take a huge 10 ft wide circle just to turn around. would you say this would fix my huge turning radius trouble? thanks

    • @jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice
      @jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps, check your wheels too. Make sure the bushings are good and your wheels are not wobbly on the axle.

    Every attachment point of the drag link and tie rod, washers on both sides, will make steering very easy and smooth!

    Ok here is what I been attempting to solve for week at no luck. All kinds of info on toe out, rare info on toe in. Brought a Craftsman LT 1000. Also a old Yard Machine. These have no front in nuts to ajust on rod. One front wheel on both mowers the bottom of tire is kicked in some. What needs replaced to solve?

    I am looking to buy a used mower. One that i am looking at the guy says it pulls to the left . I don't have access to the clamp holder you used to straigthen yours. Could i just buy that bar and install it?

  • @kevincarney5038

    The stuff on the one washer was part of the worn away bushing that goes in the hole that the linkage goes into. They are less then a dollar each and will tighten up play while making it easier to turn if you replace them.

    With the wheels looking like this will it make the steering hard to turn using the steering wheel

    If that bar was bent you'd wanna think it would "shorten" it. Thus bringing the wheels inward. At the beginning of the video, they seemed to be pointing out.

    • @ForrestWilliamsFTW
      @ForrestWilliamsFTW ปีที่แล้ว

      That bar is attached on the backside of the wheel (closer to the driver)so it is bringing the wheel inward, but the back of it. Thus the front points out.
