absolute love this man's work, have ALL of it and it never disappoints, I like the older stuff like this, even thou ALL are good, master musician, inspirational to generations to come, worldwide
If you like the Source which is utterly brilliant and refined Japanese new age fusion you need to get the followup FM Shrine...not available in the US but takes off where Source ends..
Amazing That "rim" thing that serves as a ride (starts at 1:19). Sounds like it is sequenced, yet we see him play it, is this for real? did he really play that !?
+jani reismann he's really playing! it looks like an electronic drum. judging by the synth in this recording, this was taped sometime in the 80s. as you already know, electronic instruments (including drums) were a big hit in the 80s.
The piece is a live performance of a track from the LP "The Source" which was released under Osamu's name in the US in 1986. That LP is a high water mark in his career and features Dorthy Ashby on harp and Victor Feldman on piano. 1977's Osamu and the later Masterless Samuri are also high points. This is a great performance but anyone who likes it should track dowm the entire LP as it remains a desert island disc for me since I first heard it in 1986 ( the radio show Hearts of Space played it)
30 years since Ive met this jewell. Wow!
