My wife of 40 years has Alzheimer's, so we're doing it all "This Year." Awesome song Donovan and thanks for lifting our spirits, she loves this song too.
It's my 53rd birthday today and for some reason I felt compelled to put next year into TH-cam. This is one of the things I got back. Very grateful for this song. It makes me feel both sad and inspired to make this next year my best year
Music can sometimes hit parts of the soul that we don't often have access to my man...I'm right there with ya. As a father with young children...this song hit me in the heart as well. #Salute
I cant get enough of this song, even though it brings me to tears everytime I listen to these lyrics... so close to my heart, i can relate in a big way. Thanks for putting these words into such a beautiful song ❤🥺❤🥺❤
I just got blown away. Sitting here dumbfounded after listening to it for the first time ever, never heard of Donovan Woods before. Instant fan, checking out other video's for the past half hour. You got it man, the gift to hit people right in the feels. Never lose it. When this corona thing is over, hope you'll ever tour europe so I can catch you live.
I asked Alexia to play quiet coffee shop music so I could take a nap, I was almost asleep and the lyrics to this song woke me wide awake. So good. So true. So much needed this reminder. Thank you for sharing this song and your talent with the world.
For me this song means more than I can say. Living the oilfield life being gone more than home, when I thought I was doing the best for my new family I ended up just missing the most important parts of life. Seeing that all leave because of "next year" hits home so much. It doesnt matter what work has going on. Make time because those memories are all that you'll be left with after everythings gone.
This song has made me a better parent (hopefully). I teared up listening to it the first time. Couldn't choke out the lyrics when I read them to my wife later that same day. It's even more poignant during Covid where it feels like we all just lost a year. But we still have family. Thanks. I can't thank you enough for how much your words have moved me. Cheers.
The hook and the harmony is incredible I think we can all write our own lyrics to this song. Next year Wow Lite goes too fast Next decade is how I'm feeling
Heard this song on CBC Kitchener one morning and really love it. Definitely can be a big mistake in your life, as sometimes "next year" never really comes. This reminded me of an awesome football trip that I took with my son in the summer of 2017. We both love the CFL and took in all 5 games in one week. Three different provinces, 5 different cities. Based on how the schedules changed for both 2018 and 2019, we wouldn't have been able to do a trip, as many of the games are in the same day and they don't have 5 game weeks any more. So glad we did this when we got the chance. As someone in his mid-fifties, life goes by pretty quickly and can really sneak up on you!!!!!! Thanks for the song.
"Write about what you know!" Here is a guy proving that old bit of advice so totally apt. His lyrics so atmospheric, so true and genuinely uplifting, despite its slighty sad tone. Or maybe because of it.
What an amazing song!! Takes away all the excuses! This was the spark that started the fire for my son to insist we take a motorcycle ride through some amazing scenery, and over the high passes in western Colorado last week. Thank you for writing this song! If there's not a next year, we had this year.
Those substances rob life for so many people. Have family members who have wasted so much of their lives stoned or drunk, and I'm so proud of them all sobering up.
Gorgeous. This one made me weep at Riverfest this weekend. My hubby and I were up front as you are one of our favourite artists. When we returned to our friends at our blanket we found our weepy 6 yr old. She said 'his songs make me very emotionally, mommy'. I reminded her that it is okay to feel so much that music makes your cry cause the soul often needs a good cry. Thanks for what you do. We love you.
Sounds like you guys are amazing parents! I also try to bring my small children to as many events that present cultural variety & provide as many different positive experiences as time allows for. Live music, being performed in a heartfelt, "family" environment...is such a powerful force for children to experience...& makes a huge impact on their creative & spiritual development. I'm also a musician as well...so I'm lucky to have the gift of being able to value this experience from both perspectives. As both a performer...& a parent, I love seeing my own kiddos dance in front of the stage when my band is playing various daytime/early-evening festivals (& lots of other kiddos besides mine as well!!). Children are just so free & so far from being jaded, that it is refreshing to the soul:-)
Just heard on Amazon. You just gain a new fan. This song pulled at my heart strings like you wouldn't believe. As others said that to me many times. I'm guilty, but not like others. Guilty all the same due to my late husband and his excuses why we couldn't. Great man but lacked up until he was on his last days and wanting to do the same. Thank you. Now I am going to share on Facebook with my friends and challenge them to share with 50 of their their friends.
This is probably the most convicting music video I’ve ever seen. I felt as though you were speaking to me and it made me uncomfortable. Thank you for making me reflect on my life, man. I very much enjoy the album.
"So how about this year?", I found you on Spotify and this song struck home, and I'm glad to see it has a music video cause I was thinking to make a music video for it if you permit. Thank you.
Thanks DW for what you do. Just found out you're performing 20 minutes from my house tomorrow in Barrie Ontario. See you at Meridian Place tomorrow at 8pm.
todd byers pfff my jealousy bubble just popped! How was it? I'm crossing my every finger / toe for him to come back to the Netherlands next year... Not the "it's never quite next year" kind, but the real next year.
Joy Joelle Hey Joy!! It was great. It was pouring rain at my place but 20 minutes down the road at the Meridian Place in Barrie Ontario it was dry and clear skies. Donovan had his full band and was charming and engaging with the audience. He was accompanied by a beautiful singer Lydia Persaud on a few songs including "I aint never loved no one"...usually sung by Rose Cousins. First time seeing this multi talented man and hopefully not my last. On another note....Youre a beautiful singer yourself. I checked out your vids...you haven't done one in a while. Get back at it Girl!!!

"Another twelve months flies on by, you're still here" Listening to this today, December 31 2023...
Went to school with this guy. Found out how talented he was 20 yrs later. Great song! Ain’t no next year!
My new favourite singer
Never heard of him. Just brought tears to my eyes. First time I cried in years.
Brought tears to mine too, Rick.
Music can sometimes hit parts of the soul that we don't often have access to my man...I'm right there with ya. As a father with young children...this song hit me in the heart as well. #Salute
Me too Rick. My dad is not long for this world - never mind next year, there may be no tomorrow.
I literally cannot listen to this song without crying. Absolutely beautiful, and so incredibly emotional.
You should do another song in this same fashion. Every word hits home because of the way this song is presented.
Gut wrenching truth.
I cant get enough of this song, even though it brings me to tears everytime I listen to these lyrics... so close to my heart, i can relate in a big way. Thanks for putting these words into such a beautiful song ❤🥺❤🥺❤

I found him today on Smule singing a duet with my sister. What an amazing voice , Wow.

This dudes song writing skills are amazing.

Tearing my heart out. Need to go see my kids now...
Great set tonight opening up for Matt in Philly. . . . Greater Philadelphia Area, I mean.
I think there’s something in my eye
The hook and the harmony is incredible
I think we can all write our own lyrics to this song.
Next year
Wow
Lite goes too fast
Next decade is how I'm feeling
Great storytelling song for the ages
My dad died this year really hits home thank you for the song
I'm sorry for your loss, sending love.

Hair on my arm is raised just thinking about everything that he is saying. It's now or never friends.
Wow! That was a punch in the gut. I feel seen. Thanks, I needed that!
This song never fails to make me cry. His glance at 1:52. I been at that same diner with my kids.
My 10 year old and I sing this with the windows down while we roll on down the road. Thank you!
This time last year was next year, and I'm grateful to be here still enjoying this tune.
There aren't enough adjectives. Simply stunning song.❤

This guy is definitely under rated.
