Note: You can warp the rotors if you just sit on the brakes after a hard stop due to rotors not cooling evenly with the pads insulating part of them. You should keep rolling for a few seconds after a hard stop.

There's a subaru specialist on youtube somewhere that has had plenty of cars come in to the garage with blown engines, the reason was the Varex exhaust, closing/opening the valve ruins your AFR
Steve Langdon IF you accidentally leave it closed and boot it everywhere then yes, it can cause issues. But we only close it when coming home late an night or warming car up in morning. Don't drive it closed.
Steve Langdon havent worked at a xforce dealer for a couple of years but there was a control box in beta testing at the time that worked off throttle position aparently no idea what happened with it tho
6:30 Did anyone else notice that they never strapped the car down on the dyno. Just watch as it moves side to side and also moves side to side when he lets off of the accelerator.
We bought it, drifted it for a bit then sold it to a friend. It then got painted and sued for drift and circuit then another friend bought it and still has it. It might be returning to the family soon :)
Nick Hughson straps at the back you can't see, but it doesn't mae enough power for Jim to be overly worried. He's been doing this a long time so he knows what he is doing
danthemanzizle RedStuffs are NOT bad. The mistake they made was driving for 300 miles on them not bedding them in RIGHT AWAY. Don't do any normal driving. Bed first!!
Hey MotiveDVD, Was wondering where you bought the STI Splitters, Fog Light Covers, Lip & Bonnet Scoop from? I really want to put them on my WRX as well, I know you said you got them from eBay however I'm having trouble finding them. Did you get them all in a pack? Like I'd assume the Splitters, Fog Light Covers and Lip would be in a pack? Would you be able to link me? Thanks guys, Love the show
Ok I'm just saying "body kits need to be settle" well you put lime green drift wheels on her car do you think she's gonna be sliding with groceries and a kid
This video... "Lets cover up these functional fog lights, then add these bright green wheels that make you stick out like a sore thumb!" So much for not attracting police lol.
Can Subaru Impreza automatic 2007 model be fitted with dump valves be super charged just as can hks Manuel some one help me need a auto but want to modify the hell out of it ???
New Motive Garage feature out today. Part 2 of "Pimp My Wife's Ride". This time we tackle the suspension of the WRX but instead of coil overs we change everything else to see if it's a better option in a daily driven street car. th-cam.com/video/TXVuvqPc6Ug/w-d-xo.html
I liked the video. Makes me want to go and get an exhaust and tune. IMMEDIATELY :) haha I've always wanted the Varex system but I will definitely have to do a bit more research based on some comments I've read here... thanks everyone I'm not convinced you gave the brake pads the fair treatment though. I used EBC green pads with DBA rotors on a previous car for many years. Even the green have dramatically less brake fade than an OEM pad. I drove that car stupid hard on the road and never once even considered upgrading to a red or yellow pad. The red or yellow would be even better in such hard-driving high temp situations - although their cold performance won't be as good which is why I went green for the 90% of the time I just drive normally. I'd be interested to see how the EBC Green pads perform with your cars weight and power. They might be terrible, but it would still be interesting. Around the 15min mark you put up a list of 17 braking distances and talk about the 18 stops you did... there is one missing from the list Fag lights (oops, I mean fog lights) are not 100% illegal in Australia. If they were, no car would have them as they wouldn't pass ADR testing. During the day (when it's bright) many cars automatically use their fog lights as Daytime Running Lights (DRL) because they don't have separate DRL clusters. DRL is a safety feature. At night time fog lights are only for when there is fog around... or really really heavy rain... but tell that to the SUV drivers blinding me every night of the year. The police must feel it's safer for me to drive at night at the speed limit without being able to see, rather than driving 1kph over the limit with clear vision. This is obvious when you consider they don't fine people for illegal night-time use of fog-lights but they do fine people for 1kph over the posted limit. Because it's safer.
So I actually timed his 0-60 and they were both different. One was lunched at 2500rpms and the other at 3000. The first one (2500) I got about 6.5 and the second one 6 sec. So he's way off.
+KruX We used a Performance Box, which uses GPS, and is the measuring standard for almost every automotive magazine. Ill send them an email and CC in Top Gear, Motor and Wheels magazine to let them know all their times are wrong
For the cost of the upgraded pads and rotors I would have expected much better results than what you got with the red face pads. The yellows aren't anything to scoff at, until you look at the price. I can't justify spending over $300 on brakes for a daily driver when just upgrading the stock pads on the original rotors can improve braking performance for FAR less. Hell, stock pads on aftermarket rotors can improve performance over stock for far less. You may not get AS much improvement, but you won't be spending as much to upgrade and you won't be spending as much when it comes time to replace them for normal maintenance.
Watching TH-cam WRONG. You NEVER slam on the brakes to seat the pads. If you had ever done a brake job and you actually did your research (I.E. read the instructions) you'd know that you have to brake softer than normal for the first few hundred miles to give the surface of the pads to wear into the surface of the rotor or you'll cause uneven wear on both.
Watching TH-cam Every mechanic I know and every brake job I've ever done will say and show the exact opposite is true for a break in procedure for brakes. I've in fact seen the effects of hard braking before seating the pads as I described in a brake job I did about 3 years ago. The rotors were grooved and useless within 2 months of the replacement. When I replaced them with the exact same type of pads and a new rotor, but made sure to pound the proper procedure into the owners head, the rotors and pads seated properly and are still in use to this day.
the braking distance will not be shortened even with the biggest brakes you can buy, braking distance is shortened only if you reduce weight, the big brake kits and etc. are only going to provide you with the same braking distance for longer without fading
how do u test the 0-60 in this car as an automatic? lol i got 14 seconds 0- 60 like wtf? then i got 9 seconds -.- and everything seems to be running well with no issues im sad :( i must be doing something wrong...everything stock has a k&n normal filter... anyone has any suggestions?
Its pretty impressive how the simple STi cosmetic upgrades and removal of the roof racks improve the styling of the car. The car looks brilliant. Not a huge fan of the wheels and surprised you didn't go with something like a Toyo T1R or Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002 since it would be your wife and kid in the car. But I'm sure the WRX brakes and handling will do the job of keeping them safe. Massively impressive how well these car tune though, that kind of power increase with such small mods. wants to make the car safe because family car, puts Achilles tires under the car.. I took them off my car after 1 month because they were just not good. Bet it will make a difference with braking too!
blakestilltippin Not every car comes out the same and they fade over time. Car is over 10 years old, so prefer to match it correctly. we use the factory paint code as a "starting point" and match it from there.
how does blocking the fog lamps removing the roof rack adding and exhaust lime green wheels make it more practical the motive was to no attract cops and you achieved attracting cops
The video definitely made it look like he wasn't trying very hard to stop as fast as possible. Even my old minivan had better braking distances than that.
first: why would yo wanna take out the fog lights? what if she's driving when dark and foggy? and i think with fog lights it looked better. second: why green wheels? they look wrong. third: regarding breaks, don't do them, unless you do the the whole system. in your case, you just threw out money.
Vytautas Ivanauskas yea.. honestly i thought that changing brake pads and rotors would do absolutely nothing as the stock brakes can lock up the wheel with no problem.. My guess would be he had so shit pads that if he changed only those, he would have had the same results. And if you live in city, brake fade is ridiculous excuse :D
Vytautas Ivanauskas First, fog is damn near non-existent in that part of the world. Second, its a question of taste, grow up. Third, no brake upgrade increase peak brake strength, because the limiting factor in braking is the tyres. Brake upgrades give greater feel and control, allowing the driver to use the brakes harder and under a wider range of conditions without locking. Pads alone can make the world of difference but an increase in rotor diameter is where things really kick off.
Why would it lose kW? It will adjust timing if it detonates due to hot day etc, but will put the timing back in if the temp is cool. It learns in both to increase and decrease power around the base map based on intake air temps and knock sensor readings, but the new tune is the starting point. Tuning also increased the base boost level
Been watching all Andrew's newer stuff but this is first time I've watched his old stuff. He must have lost his lisp cause he certainly doesn't sound like this in his latest videos..
'we don't want to attract police attention'
*adds fluorescent wheels*
i've seen this car on the street and the wheels were later painted black/ grey
Good, cause that color is hideous
Note: You can warp the rotors if you just sit on the brakes after a hard stop due to rotors not cooling evenly with the pads insulating part of them. You should keep rolling for a few seconds after a hard stop.
If you paint the brake callipers red you can get an extra 25 kW for free!
OMFG GOD

ehh, around 2:30 :P
drumboarder1 this is the same guy from their build too
At 2:40 I see that Mighty Mods 180SX drift missile! :D
I just saw that. I love that s13
Well If you did notice, it was also the at 2:15 where the 180 sat for ages, and it may be because it the same garage.. Hah
Fair enough, the "being suitable to drive young kids around" made it sound as if the valve would be shut haha
This is how they do it in Australia
quite common world wide for tuners to not strap down low hp cars, personally not what i would like if it were my car, but certainly not uncommon.
fog light covers are a fail. nooooooooooooo! everything else is awesome
the auto transmission is also a fail
foglights are illegal to use here and we think they look better. Same as STi
Great to find this video! Given I bought it knowing none of its history!
Is that Mighty Car Mods' 240sx in the background at 2:45?
+TheMagicBambi sure is. build;t in the same place
What happened to it after MCM test drifted it and never used it again?
We bought it, drifted it for a bit then sold it to a friend. It then got painted and sued for drift and circuit then another friend bought it and still has it. It might be returning to the family soon :)
Is that car not tied down on the dyno?....
Nick Hughson straps at the back you can't see, but it doesn't mae enough power for Jim to be overly worried. He's been doing this a long time so he knows what he is doing
Nick Hughson I was wondering the same thing, thats fucking ballsy.
I’m doing a roof rail delete, where can I source the new rubber fitting? Can’t seem to find a supplier
2:43 MCM 180sx !!!
02:40 is that MCM S13 in back ?
sure is
glad to see its in good hands :)
do they sell all their cars when they are done with them ? because they always just dissappear
do they sell all their cars when they are done with them ? because they always just dissappear
A 240 at 2:40 haha!
lmao! Brakes are the best upgrade ever! Upgrades them.... worse....
Its the rotors....those rda are garbage
***** The Yellow Stuff pads performed better, the red stuff ones are garbage.
danthemanzizle RedStuffs are NOT bad. The mistake they made was driving for 300 miles on them not bedding them in RIGHT AWAY. Don't do any normal driving. Bed first!!
Peter Stasik Nice!
was thinking the same thing. so to conclude, subaru knew what they were doing when designing your brake pads.
Hey MotiveDVD,
Was wondering where you bought the STI Splitters, Fog Light Covers, Lip & Bonnet Scoop from? I really want to put them on my WRX as well, I know you said you got them from eBay however I'm having trouble finding them. Did you get them all in a pack? Like I'd assume the Splitters, Fog Light Covers and Lip would be in a pack? Would you be able to link me?
Thanks guys,

Is the car not strapped down when its on your dyno? looks like its moving quite a bit
what is the spec of the rim? Looks wide and nice.
looks like those brake tests were done at the quarry near eastern creek, nice stretch of road haha
My stock 2003 Impreza WRX has 165kw, why has that car so little power?
I mean, it's fast, but i can't figure out the dyno data
Ok I'm just saying "body kits need to be settle" well you put lime green drift wheels on her car do you think she's gonna be sliding with groceries and a kid
"Subtle" not "settle" Just a pointer.
Thx man I didn't catch that
This video... "Lets cover up these functional fog lights, then add these bright green wheels that make you stick out like a sore thumb!" So much for not attracting police lol.
Fog lights are illegal to use in Australia. Wheels are legal size.
+MotiveDVD Not in QLD at least, you're just limited to only using them in heavy rain or fog.
+dontfeedthecode Yea they're legal all across AU, subject to those conditions, but still legal
+MotiveDVD even when there is fog?
No, but we dont get fog in Sydney metropolitan area. We never used them one.
is that mighty car mods s13 240 in the back at 2:38
Somewhere out there... theres a grandma is missing her sliver subi wagon lol
Nice road for brake testing and late night road tuning :)
Can Subaru Impreza automatic 2007 model be fitted with dump valves be super charged just as can hks Manuel some one help me need a auto but want to modify the hell out of it ???
Nice video! very very informative :)
And the car is pretty quick after the mods and tune! impressive
that's a super clean wagon! nice job
150kw after upgrades ? ? in eu stock ones have somewhere around 160kw

your tmic needs some air while youre on that dyno . that big blower in front of the car isnt enough
why did yall put the tires on backwards... those are directional
did anyone else notice the mighty car mods drift car in the backround at 2:40
I love you in the MCM vids man!
Holy shit! its benny from Mighty Car Mods
Was that thing even tied down on the dyno??
apparently in australia, they dont believe on strapping lol...
Doesn't look like it maybe that's why they face it toward the door ? Lol
Part 2 is uploading now....finally!
Anyone notice that the left rear tyre is on backwards ?
Whats the specifications of those rims, I'm more interested in offset...thanks
Why would you put fog light covers over your fog lights?
how on earth can a different exhaust system increase power output?
aren't auto closing exhausts illegal in AUS?
@4:01 The left rear tire is at a wrong orientation...
Mark Speed6 its actually correct.
Mark Speed6 nevermind. lol
Mighty Car Mods 180sx spotted at 2:30?
spotted the mcm s13 drift pig in the background at 2:44
Lol, as the first mod dude covered up the foglights as a 'rally' mod.
I'm so jealous that you guys can get the varex stuff for decent pricing. Shipping on one of those to the US is crazy :/
Oh my god thats obe nissan kanobe from mcm didn't know you did videos
2:40 Is that the 180sx from Mighty Car Mods?
yep
Well spotted

152 kw is about 203 bhp or 206cv....
Stock WRX in europe develops 225cv, 165kw....
Why then?
If this is part 1. Where is part 2?
the braking distance will not be shortened even with the biggest brakes you can buy, braking distance is shortened only if you reduce weight, the big brake kits and etc. are only going to provide you with the same braking distance for longer without fading
so by this logic smaller brakss will give a shortter distance as they are lighter
+Petko Krushev well please explain to me why people upgrade their brakes if it doesn't decrease braking distance?
+420BassIt read the original comment
+Petko Krushev so big brakes have less fading and small ones have better stopping power? got it.
+420BassIt you are an idiot, BIG TIME
Let me guess, a week later those rims are all scrapped from the curb when she tries to park?
how do u test the 0-60 in this car as an automatic? lol i got 14 seconds 0- 60 like wtf? then i got 9 seconds -.- and everything seems to be running well with no issues im sad :( i must be doing something wrong...everything stock has a k&n normal filter... anyone has any suggestions?
We use a v-box to measure 0-60 times. Lots of magazines use same system
MCM drift build in the back at 2:40
are you guys going to make part 2?
Its pretty impressive how the simple STi cosmetic upgrades and removal of the roof racks improve the styling of the car. The car looks brilliant. Not a huge fan of the wheels and surprised you didn't go with something like a Toyo T1R or Bridgestone Adrenaline RE002 since it would be your wife and kid in the car. But I'm sure the WRX brakes and handling will do the job of keeping them safe.
Massively impressive how well these car tune though, that kind of power increase with such small mods. I couldn't help wanting to see a few more PSI of boost to see where it would go like on a SR20.
Nice gains on the exhaust. Not sure that intercooler is doing much more to help.
Rotor and pad upgrade and you're still breaking close to stock and call that a win? Save your money and invest in better tires.
What is the exhaust system and where could i get it? thanks :)
What are the specs on those wheels? Love this bulilt
You had me at AUTO!!
mcm 180sx behind at 2:40
What is the colour code/name of those wheels? I am really interested in painting my impreza's that same colour!

Time for a shift kit?
wants to make the car safe because family car, puts Achilles tires under the car.. I took them off my car after 1 month because they were just not good. Bet it will make a difference with braking too!
Why didn't you just get the paint code from the glove box ? Idk about imports but atleast in Chevys that's where it's located
blakestilltippin Not every car comes out the same and they fade over time. Car is over 10 years old, so prefer to match it correctly. we use the factory paint code as a "starting point" and match it from there.
11:12 whats exact name on the device ?
how does blocking the fog lamps removing the roof rack adding and exhaust lime green wheels make it more practical the motive was to no attract cops and you achieved attracting cops
205 hp US ! Not bad with a kiddo on board lol!
Hey, How much did the exhaust system cost you?
What f it is foggy? can they still use the fog lights??
What's the song at 3:10
Where is Part two?
Why would you get rid of the fog lights, i use those everyday
Electronic Superhero Illegal to use in Australia and looks better with STi covers in our opinion
***** Thats crazy that fog lights are illegal...I thought the US was bad about certain things on the road being illegal.
JDM fogs, Which are one of the most wanted parts to USDM subaru drivers.
"ill just throw fog covers over them"
Why cover up the fog lights? They wanted safe
5:15 SONG ??????
Lol that colour match though
The video definitely made it look like he wasn't trying very hard to stop as fast as possible. Even my old minivan had better braking distances than that.
OH wow WRX in Australia have not much kw at stock
Fel307 It's over 10 years old and dyno figures are always lower by about 20% or so from drivetrain losses.
THE MCM 180SX!!
first: why would yo wanna take out the fog lights? what if she's driving when dark and foggy? and i think with fog lights it looked better.
second: why green wheels? they look wrong.
third: regarding breaks, don't do them, unless you do the the whole system. in your case, you just threw out money.

Vytautas Ivanauskas
First, fog is damn near non-existent in that part of the world.
Vytautas Ivanauskas technically fog lights are defectable in sydney however unless a cop really hates you you probably wont get pulled up for it
Baby poop colored rims were not cool back in the 90s and still are not :D
how much to do like that to my wrx?
Is this Andrew from MightyCarMods?
doesnt the ecu self learn? and would lose kw over time?
Why would it lose kW? It will adjust timing if it detonates due to hot day etc, but will put the timing back in if the temp is cool. It learns in both to increase and decrease power around the base map based on intake air temps and knock sensor readings, but the new tune is the starting point. Tuning also increased the base boost level
any one else hear him go tttthhhh at the end of a word?
Man this car is ttthhhuuuper tttthhweeet!
"I want to improve looks and safety" - Adds ugly covers which stop you from using your fog lights...
