Paul McCartney & Wings is one helluva great band. They ruled the 70s. You couldn't listen to the radio without hearing a Wings song being played. I really enjoyed the songs that never got the air play. 1970s, great time to be a young teenager with all the great music to go with it.
Yes it is briliant - always was, but now official the production is spot on and it remians a great musical adventure including Baby Face! It has such a raw sense of fun and groovy vibe. Like a party for the ears.
The harder attack on these live in the studio versions is amazing. Makes all the songs Hot as Hell! Too bad drummer Geoff Britton didn’t work out. He rocks the shit here!
It’s a great Wings album. Just as an afterthought off cause. But it nicely covers what was going on between “Band on the Run” and “Venus & Mars”. Like the fact that the artwork is kind of discreet, not pretending to be a “major lost Wings album”. Mostly for fans but I love it😊❤️👍
Cool to finally get an official release of this (tho the cover is junk), but the McCartney estate needs to get back to the Archive releases (at least finish out the Wings catalog). What I really want is a Back to the Egg super-box set with a dvd that includes the BTTE TV special, the Rockestra documentary (c’mon, seeing McCartney, Gilmour, and Bonham together in the same room is beyond epic) and the full Kampuchea Wings set. Get on it, Paul!
I'm glad it's finally release officially. I've had the bootleg on VHS for decades. I love the intimate setting with just Paul at the piano, playing songs that he had written and never recorded.
Britton’s drumming really pops here. It’s also up front on the Junior’s Farm single. Jimmy is always pure class. His solos and fills are nice on OHC … but he never really gets to cut loose. You know who really surprised me? Linda on keyboards. Quite prominent and well done. Denny’s sort of in the background, but he excels on his one solo song.
Great video! I've been on the fence about picking this up, but you might have swayed me to give Paul yet more of my $$ haha. I initially was all-in when I saw that "Soily" was included, but then I remembered this OHC version of that track was already released on the 2-disc edition of "Venus & Mars" back in 2014. However, I know most (if not all) of the cuts on OHC have been remixed and there are some tracks that I've never heard before as well. Really good review / discussion, sir - thanks!
Thank You Mike. I didn't know that this album was released. Without all that you said on this podcast I wouldn't have known that this was a worthwhile album to purchase. Now, suddenly this album is going to be #1 on my hit parade.
Loved the album! It is not for sale in my country, and Amazon never finds my address, so I am restricted to streaming it nonstop for the time being. Great video as always, Michael!
I think this is a great live in the studio album. There's a few things I could do without. Some of the shorter versions of past and then new songs. But, I'd much rather they gave us more songs from the sessions than fewer. Then the fans can decide which tracks they want to listen to the most. After having some of "One Hand Clapping" on bootleg for years, I'm glad its finally gotten an official release. My only gripe, is not putting "The Backyard" segment at the end of CD 2. There was certainly room for it. Instead, they made it a website exclusive on a vinyl single (E.P.), with the 2 LP vinyl set.
Michael, this is an essential addition to the Wings catalogue!! Some fantastic alternate versions of earlier material. One song that is a first here - but would later appear on Wings Over America - is "Soily". I LOVE this first version!!
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine The Muppet Man is back for some more. I wish he would complain more about bands performing past their prime. He just doesn't do enough of that.
My thought…if you’re a dedicated Beatles, Wings, and/or Paul fan…this release is essential. Although I will say if you’re not, NON ESSENTIAL. For me 14 out of the 26 tracks kick ass! The other 12 are kind of ‘meh’, just okay. So it’s up to each individual. Some have stated they LOVE this big time! Others think it’s a waste. 🤔 Great commentary Michael! Cheers, Matt 😊🙏😎👍❤️

Anything Paul does, I'm in. My favorite Rock singers includes Paul, Roy Orbison, Elvis, Layne Staley, or Chris Cornell. The later are kinda modern, but still great, for this 80's / 90's kid
I am a HUGE Beatles and Wings fan as well as Paul's solo work. There's just one song out of Paul's entire catalogue, which is ridiculously extensive, which I cannot stand! There's several songs I could give or take, but very few considering the vast number of songs Paul has written. So, it's just this one song that I just cannot take, to where I'll skip it if it happens to be on a particular CD I'm playing, but if I'm relaxing with a fine vintage of bubbly "Muddy Panther Piss" listening to albums, most times I'll be too lazy to get up, lift the arm and set it back down on the next track, BUT I ALWAYS WANT TO!! I put the 50th anniversary Band on the Run with One Hand Clapping and Ram on a10" reel and There It Is. 😎
I don't know why Paul doesn't put out a press release saying that he's looking for bootleg live recordings of any of his solo work of the 70s or Beatles work. He could pay people for those recordings as per their quality, and then he could use the "Get Back" computer technology to clean them up and enhance them enough that they could be compiled into live albums! That would be something I'd be interested in.
I suspect Apple has people wandering around markets looking for bootlegs. I would also think all of his concerts were professionally recorded and filed in his personal archive for review and potential release. A live anthology through the years would be interesting.
Nice video. I’ve noticed though that when you do a video on a Beatle, it’s ALWAYS Paul. It would be cool for you to do dedicated videos once in a while on a Beatle not named Paul McCartney. The others, especially John and George, have an equally rich catalogue and story. As I’m already sure that you are aware. Cheers!
By listening carefully to Geoff Britton, we can realize that his game is quite fine and subtle. Less cushy than Joe English, less dry than Steve Holley and more "fresh" than Denny Seiwell’s. It is a pity that his singular personality is not allowed to continue his career alongside Paul, Linda & Denny ...
No AI Real music and I love the horn section. I always wish Paul had used horn sections in his later concerts i.e. Flowers up to only a few years back where Wix covered all those parts. Yep Jimmy was a wild card but what a guitarist. A pity he and Geoff didn't get along. The artwork is dull imo but maybe it is trying to look bootleg (that's some peoplke's theories). A naked chubby baby with earphones and wings (nup) - is this a Paul pic of baby Mary or Stella?
Eh? Nah… one hand clapping was intended as and was made as a film - an entertainment performance documentary for TV. (But no station picked it up). Naturally the music for it needed to be good and recorded properly. All these years later those tapes have been used for this audio release. I’ve no idea why several TH-camrs keep referring to it as an album that was never released? 🤷♂️
I'm more of a fan of the original video of "One Hand Clapping". That's where the magic is at. It's live, it hasn't been "cleaned" up with AI. I've seen a clip of the AI restored version and of the album. Once the sound and video have been manipulated then it's not real in my opinion. But people will eat it up no matter what because that's what people do. Eat up whatever is put in front of them. AI is an abomination. It sucks. And using it to "clean up" recordings and video is just wrong. But I'm in the minority. Paul didn't have AI when he did "Wings Over America". So he went in the studio and redid vocals and instrumentation and dubbed it in the actual live recordings and called the album live. It's a great album. But it's hardly completely live.
Interesting that it is fake, and not real. I know that Paul was even re recording Beatles live tracks in the studio for possible live album release, but that idea was abandoned years ago. Now with pro tools and other AI technology, Paul wants to put out fake performances, proving that he has always been a music industry hack. It ties in with the George Martin tape loops, strings and splicing takes to cover up for bad playing or messed up vocal lines. Hey hey, we're The Monkees!
