Pen Spinning with a self-made pen can be OK just for few first days or a couple of weeks. Without a professionally pre-made tool you are going to have difficulties. Learning tricks with pen are going to be harder.

Imo making your own mods that are good quality isn't that difficult. I do agree that you should try a pre made mod as a baseline, but making them yourself shouldnt be overlooked. my first pen was a waterfall mod and I enjoyed it, but I wished it was a little longer. I realized I could just put two crayola supertips together and cut them at then ends, then use the waterfalls tips. Ive now made 5 pen mods myself, all of which i prefer over the waterfall mod i initially had, so i would definitely encourage people to experiment.
I have 3D printer so I am fine :D I will make my own pens.
I tried:) Companies, which make pens and marking pen for years, do them much better than 3D printers. But you sure can try.
@@PenStock I intend to buy mods in the future, but so far I do not think it is necessary. And I hope that in the month or so I will have a better idea about what to buy for myself.
I use un-sharpened pencils. Then i just put eraser caps on the weak part, then i went on to a mod, and started good. But i went better with pen mod
Actually my first self mod was just one double sided pen, with 2 other caps and it spun really fine, weight was good and I still have it, and sometimes I spin it

Don't judge people by yourself. If I thought self made mods were good for beginners - I would tell this.
But I think, they are bad, and this video brings up arguments for that. Also there are a lot of testimonials of beginners, who once had selfmade mods and after that received professionally made ones.
If you'd say to beginners to buy stuff, which they actually don't need just to make a couple of bucks - it doesn't mean everybody else is the same, OK?

I just started pen spinning but one of my favourite parts of it is making my own mods. I started today and already made 3 mods from old pens around my house. They are actually pretty good too.

Yeah, for the first time it may be OK, especially if you have hands to make decent stuff. Modding is an important thing. But to know what's good, and they should look, you need to see examples.

For my first mod I used a wooden dowel and put rubber bands as the grip and used electrical clay as weight.
A good tip to make a self mod, in my opinion, is to use the materials around you and make a mod based of off another pre made mod in terms of looks, weight and height... This way, in theory, you should have a pen mod that feels like a good mod while not spending too much money on an expensive mod, And yes Alex, even your mods from penstock are considered costly for Indian parents... I'm currently trying to make a mod based on Waterfall, and it's going pretty well
Edit: Im not against Pre made or Self mods, if it works for you it works for you if it doesn't then it doesn't... Lets try to find what best suits our situation and skill and follow that... Pls lets not make this community as toxic as the MHA fandom.

I started pen spinning waaaayy back then when it was a complete niche (I was there when Bonkura was still the pen spinning role model, RIP). It's just that at that time, there are no premade pen mods, you just have to build one yourself, so I did made one, don't get me wrong, it was not an easy process to figure out how to make one that is spinnable and would last, I started with an Any-X mod, then a Lakubo MX and G3 MX, I was limited by the pens available in my area, I care about the quality of my pen mods, but importing a pen just for a pen mod was incredibly ridiculous for me. With time, you should find a pen mod that is actually usable, has consistent performance and could withstand drops and the likes. So I understand that for some people who wasn't able to pour a lot of effort in building a proper pen mod, this would be a big deterrent in learning pen spinning since this part of starting pen spinning is a hard process to begin with.
Nowadays, it's easier to look for premade pen mods, it's available almost everywhere, but for me personally, while it was nice to spin a premade pen mods as it was ready to use, it felt like it wasn't personal, it's not my pen mod, it's not like how I wanted it to be and my options are limited to the one sold.
Premade pen mods are a good place to start, gets yourself familiar with the basics and the techniques, but eventually you have to learn how to make pen mods, you have to build one that are specifically made up to your specifications and design the aesthetic that will really show that it is yours and you WILL HAVE TO LEARN TO MAKE THE PEN MODS CORRECTLY. While buying premade pen mods is fun, pen modding is still part of the hobby and it's a fun one to explore too. Happy Spinning.

I just use an empty tube (usually from pens), get some random matching caps, stick some magnets as weights, put the caps on the tube, works fine
I literally just used a pencil then added 2 pen grips to the top and on the bottom of the pencil and then i added a grip in the middle then that's it , I had a pretty great experience using that mod which was just 3 weeks ago I made then I re made it

I find it the same way cheap music instruments potentially turn off a lot beginners from properly pursuing their instrument of choice. You at least need to get a 'decent' version of the equipment to help you get somewhere instead of quitting too soon. To be fair I used a bictory since high school cause there weren't pen mod makers in Australia until I noticed one in the next state recently. Using a bictory I was well aware I could not do any advance tricks and I was well aware that a premade mod was needed. I recently received my flying panda in the mail and by god the weight and balance just feels next level.

Im a beginner and i at first didnt had no idea whats a good pen mod or not so i bought these cheap ass pen mods from amazon, and only after like a day i found out theyre trash for spinning apparently, so i just take 2 fineliners, stack them together, put some tape on, throw the amazon weights on and boom ive got myself a perfectly balanced ~25 cm mod. Ive been using it for around 2 weeks when im writing this and im so comfortable with it to the point that any changes to the weight and length will really throw me off (im better than just the fundamentals btw).
i still havent tried a proper pre made mod but for now this is my only one since i actually looked for the right sized pens im comfortable with. Judging by the pics in the vid, compared to them, mine is actually mostly well built even tho i was kinda short on pens. Im planning on getting a proper one soon tho but i am quite picky abt the parameters and stuff like that.

I live in guatemala and there Isnt a single store that sells a professional pen mod, and when I tried to buy a Mr. Nope's Element it costs 10 dollars and then the website charges 14 dollars to ship it to my country, Thats not cheap so thats why the only option is making your own mod

Well, I don’t completely agree. There are a lot of professional tutorials on popular mods like waterfall of flying panda. When you can make a great quality mod on your own, why should you spend money on a premade version of the same thing.
I mean, making a pen mod isn’t necessarily putting crap together without knowing what you’re doing. After all, many premade mods are made by other people from pen parts.
Yeah, in this case you're gonna spend more money for spare to make decent mod according to tutorial. And if you mess something - you're gonna spend more to replace damaged part. If you feel like it - for sure go on. But for the majority it would be much better to take a mod, look at it and after that try to make by themselves.

I say use a color marker thats.... a stick or a pencil for "Noob Tricks" anything after that if u want to continue use a pen mod idk even know if sonic and charge are even possible if you have no experience

My mod is a Rorito Flymax Mod which has Rorito Flymax II grips and Rorito Flymax II tips. But the body is a Rorito Flymax I.
I’m watching this while spinning my own mod. (22cm brass tube with two erasers on the end) I feel like he has a bias since he has his own shop. Also I feel that pen spinning is an impulse decision for many people, and that means that they might want to try it there and then. So that means that waiting for a mod to come in the mail a few days later might not be the best thing if the person is unsure. Now if they make their own mod they can just try it within five minutes of deciding to get into pen spinning.
It is OK to start with crap, just to try it out while youare watinig for a pen mod. But most likely you're not going to have much fun with brass tube and more likely will drop PS with it.
I can feel some bias in the video, but I agree with him. Mods should be properly balanced and weighted, it’s easier to spin a 15 gram pen mod than a stick. If you’re gonna start with that it’s gonna be hard, so if possible make a proper one (doesn’t need to be good, just good *enough* ), and when you get the hang of it, try better ones. It’s like learning how to play soccer with an empty water bottle. It works, but a proper soccer ball is better.
Here is a tip for your life: its better if you instantly buy a good thing rather than first the cheap one and then the good one. this saves money and gives you more motivation on the thing you are doing :)

I realized while watching that most my pen mods 4/5 were made without cash money but only 1 was which only cost me like $5

I started pen spinning with a small stick which I got in my backyard
i made a who knows what mod myself by taking 2 ballpoint pens and putting booth of their ink tubes into one body and then caps at the end and then some cheap ballpoint pen grips on the caps soo it basically crap since i cant afford a pen mod because my countries
currency is soo bad that i cant afford any pen mod and since pen spinning is never ever heard in my country so i cant even find the right parts for a good mod to make myself

ikr the sites are great and they do help but you know like my countries currency compared to dollars is very down if you now what is up with pakistan 5 dollars for you guys is like nothing and those 5 dollars in our country are like 800Rs so you now understand my problem and if somehow i do build up for a mod i still have to pay the delivery chars which if you can guess can most be like 13 dollars and 13 dollars in my country is 1300Rs so i am getting discouraged from pen spinning

For my first diy one I just got 2 unsharpened pencils. Took the metal/,eraser bit off the tip of one. And put it on the unsharpened side of the other one. So there was an eraser on both sides. And it looked like a mod😅

Mine is a pen with 4 caps... 2 on both sides and nut for added weight
