Sal saves the day once again. Sometimes I wonder why the hell i go to class. Took my teacher 1.5 hrs to teach us this concept, didn't understand worth a damn, Sal has me straight after only watching half of the video.
cos (0)=1 while sin(0)=0 so basically if the point of the origin of the function is zero at y axis then it is a sin and if it is 1 at the y axis then it is cosine meaning that when you see that the function began from up to down and not the opposite then it is sine and if the opposite then it is a cosine

May you upload the link to your website please. I went in but couldn't find the examples with witch to practice. It would be so helpful, thank you very much. By the way great videos I love how you explain everything, from impossible to easy in just under 10m, amazing!
Dude!! I freakin love you! Do you know how long I've been sitting here reading through my trig book trying to figure this shiz out!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! LOL I reeeally appreciate it!! =D
You (and everybody, because that was two years ago) should really consider showing videos like this to your math teacher. I know that some math teachers are evil incarnate, but some don't realize the material is difficult for you and would love to see it presented in a way that was easy for you to follow.
Guess you didn't think you'd get a reply here, huh? 😀 Anyways, since the period is pi/2, you could just think about 2pi / (pi / 2) as how many (pi / 2) 's you could fit in a 2pi, or how many half bars of chocolate are there in 2 full bars of chocolate 🍫. The answer is 4, thus the equation for b becomes sin(4x). Hope that's useful. Sorry I couldn't have helped earlier.
rule to watching khan academy videos , first like then play it.
Why?

Honestly, I spent 8 hours trying to understand this today, and after watching this video, the numbers and letters made sense.
How do I know it's a cos function and not a sin function shifted if I was given the graph and asked for the function
Yared Mamo Evaluate the value of the graph at x=0, if answer is zero then it's a Sin function. Not zero, then Cos.

I remember giving up for weeks when we got to this part in my A levels XD. I eventually got it
are you in year 12 or 13?
Thanks sal, you're saving lives (of students first :P )

no it's not because you'll notice that the graph went up between 1 and 2 and it was halfway between them sot it is 1 1/2 which is 3/2.
to find the co-efficient of x in a cos function, do we use the same term as in the sine function (2π/Period)?
I don't understand how you figure out if its a sin or cos function. could you please explain that again?

this helped alot ^^ even tho im still alittle confused this makes more sense then what my teacher was saying.
I wish the period of my girlfriend was only 4 Pi.
Hahaha, just kidding. I don't have a girlfriend ._.
Do you have a boyfriend?
Where in the fuck are the tangent and cotangent graphs?!?!?

Looking only at the positive side of the graph, the cos looks like a valley and the sin looks like a hill and a valley.
So helpful!!
another way to find period use the formula 2pi/2(x2-x1) where you have the first maximum point and the first minimum formula.
@misharockz1 you can use either using certain transformations. however if you look at a peak to peak, its easiest to use cosine.
so is a sin function always going to intersect at (0,0) ? it seems so because Asin0 will always be 0
Let's go Firefox!
Could you show me how to do this without a graph, with just a word problem?
I can't figure out b on my homework. The period is pi/2. How would you find it since its (2pi)/(pi/2)?
Guess you didn't think you'd get a reply here, huh? 😀

dude you Are a math GOD !!!!
you have no idea how much you've helped me!
thank you so much!!!!!
hey sal is it possible to graph a tangent function? I search but it kinda confusing
Thank you very much for your help!
Thank you. this cleared up some things a lil bit -__-
THANK YOU. i have a final where we have to go from graph to equation and our book does not explain this at all.
You wrote this comment when I was born
Sal is that dude!!!! Thanx my G
You're my herooo. Trig test tomorrow D:
You're the real MVP
you make learning so much fun!
you freakin rule man.
sal rocks!
waiit isnt its 1/2 instead of 3/2 ????
