Had to be done, there just aren't any good English managers available right now. It is far too late to be taking an amateur manager and "letting them develop", when we have one of the best international teams in the prime of their career.

International tournaments are at the most basic level a straight knockout cup competition, England for the most part lose these by the narrowest of margins or by penalties. Particularly against Germany, in three key games in 1970, 1990 and 1996 if those tiny margins had gone our way we could be sitting with three world cups and a Euros. Tuchel has experience of finding the extra needed to get over the line, it is a good appointment.
Luke is onto something with Carsley. Evidence that FA needs help is how unprepared he was for this test. What club would hire him now? That was a massive flameout and it didnt need to be that bad. Watch how FA handles Carsley now. Will they give Carsley more support? Send him overseas as an assistant? Put him
on Tuchels staff as a “shadow”? Aggressively move him out? Get him job in Championship? Or just leave him in place? Carsley is more of a “tell” that St Georges Park is missing the mark than appointing Tuchel is. Its understandable that a top English coach is not available right now. Its NOT understandable that the understudy is so unprepared

Disagree with Luke's point at the beginning there. The FA's succession planning wasn't bad - succession planning is entirely down to who is available at the time the previous manager leaves/gets sacked. The FA can't control who is available at that time

marco senna won the euros with spain in midfield. hes brazlian born and bred. diago costa is brazilian. both di stefano and puskas played for argentina and hungary before playing for spain.
italy have given 16 caps to an argentian lad called retegui who had never been there before his first call up. Jorginho won them the euros despite being brazilian born and bred. Luis Monti played for Argentina and Italy, and is the only player to appear in two World Cup final matches for different teams. we all know how easy it is for a footballer to get an italian passport.
Rakatic was born and raised in switzerland but played for croatia.
Aubamayang is french but played for gabon.
chadli is morrocan but played for belgium.
and of course argentina keep playing some lad called messi despite him being from out of space.
its been going on for years. at least englands players are still english..... oh wait, barnes and stirling are jamaican.

Just think, with our tabloids if Tuchel wins something, they somehow would be dismissive of it and make our new despair hole 'we must win with an Englishman!'

I get roughly what you’re saying but “xenophobic” is overstating it, especially since most top-level nations hire their own, and it would be pretty ironic to condemn so many countries in one statement.
Over-use of “victim” words devalues them, so you owe it to the people you’re trying to protect, to put sensible bounds on its usage

@@blackholesupersloth3276 Most people in the world, or at least all the countries I’ve lived in except the UK, would pick their own nationality if the skill gap isn’t huge. I refuse to believe all those countries are “xenophobic”. Otherwise your tolerance is extremely intolerant.
Maybe that article is xenophobic. But that doesn’t apply to other people that want the same thing for different reasons.
I’m super excited by this appointment, and the only thing detracting from it is seeing people being baselessly accused of something pretty defamatory. You don’t know them, or their reasoning.

I feel nearly all the public is optimistic, but the media have been a little ridiculous in their response, and xenophobic in their wording.

FA suits have let themselves down big time. They seem so out of touch. When did a foreign manger ever win a WC? Thomas Tuchel is an experienced club manager. He's a very good manager but the England manager role should be a realistic target for English managers/coaches to aim for. Where is the incentive if a foreign coach is employed? In international football, recruiting a foreign coach is almost like accepting that you're beaten before the competition begins. England had foreign managers previously and it didn't work out. English FA thought foreign managers understood how to win WC & Euros because they brought extra skills to the role compared to English managers. Then Sven lost to Scolari, a Brazilian manager who won the trophy with Brazil. After that Capello lost to Lowe, a German manager who would later win the trophy with Germany. English FA has a responsibility to develop and promote English football players and coaches. Today they have had their heads turned and neglected their responsibilities.

It’s a big mess. Tuchel got no track record of sticking around so the whole DNA/pathway thing has been chucked out. Why cause Carsley had a howler in one nations league game. Don’t mind he’s German but it seems very short term.
Matters massively. He'll need to sing the national anthem at every game and wear the poppy.
You feel so? Poppy, yes. But for anthem, I don’t overly mind, but personally I find it uncomfortable, even slightly disrespectful for a foreigner to sing our anthem
