Rich contact Gary at Python Restoration, he can print you up the tags you need. He did an awesome job on my belts!

Thank you George, that was the idea. Freshen them up to keep up with the rest of the interior. I see the Goofy Cart is making big strides.

Thanks just might have to do that , I found one good tag and was going to try and find some similar material and have them duplicated. I have heard great things about Python.

Wow Rich, very resourceful!! I thought maybe you had them sent out. I know Snake Oyl used to do them.

There are a couple of places that do resto but it's pricey and lengthy to get them done. Wanted to give it a shot to get it done myself.

Great video. I am cleaning the belts in my 1972 F100 that are the same style as the mustang. Did you remove the belt off the spring retractor? If so, do you have any reference for the spring? One is working but not the other. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jon, man that was a few years ago already. I recall it took some fiddling to get the retractors to work again. I don't have any reference for you on the spring sorry about that. Easiest thing to do would just be source another entire unit. They are plentiful and relatively cheap.

Super job. It wouldn't be legal to make them yourself here in Germany, but I'm sure they are as strong as the originals were.

Hey Bruce, We have seat belt restoration "shops" here to but in checking their websites I saw nothing about any special certification. I bought NOS material and had a 50 year upholstery veteran sew them up exactly the same. Confident they are up to snuff. Thanks for stopping by!

Nice job Rich, can I send you my belts, just kidding I know how much time you can get into jobs like that but it sure makes a difference.

Haha, Yes I have no interest in getting into the seat belt resto biz, just glad it worked for this car. Thanks for stopping by Terry!

What did you use to clean off the metal buckles? I might have missed that part in the video 😬

Just polished them up with some extra fine steel wool and then some chrome polish, can't recall the brand name.

Rich, when I was restoring Bettie, I wanted to sew up some custom 3-point belts (which were not available in 1963). I was told that you cannot legally make your own seat belts. The shops that make them have to be certified and use special materials. Did you find a shop willing to do custom work? If so I'd like an introduction. thanks.

Hi John, I just bought NOS material so I knew it was up to the standard and I had a local upholstery shop sew them up exactly the same. I am not sure about the legality but I am confident they are as strong or stronger that what came out. I have done it before and again just used a local upholstery shop and there was no issue.

All of the restoration parts supply houses sell the kit. NPD or CJ pony parts.

Scrub the old seat belt material with dish soap and degreaser. Then dye them black. some one on eBay will buy them to restore their black set that was cut or lost.

Those things were so far gone and damaged, hard as a rock too. No saving those, don't think this hurt anyone in the resto community, haha. I needed those belts for my car, the one they came in.....

MustangConnection1 it was just a general statement for anyone who has old nasty seatbelts. I salvage cars as I find them and have never found a belt I could not bring back to at least daily driver quality using that method. Especialy the back seat belts. They get tucked under the back seat in the sound deadener and seam sealer. makes a mess of them. Some so no grease and dish soap usually works. Them any belt color can be dyed black. it's the light colors that are the challenge.
Where did you buy your belt material from?

you skipped so much of the process... did you find new buckles or not... I saw you painting...how did you get the retractables apart? 3/10 video
