Hey Tom! What I love about listening to your interviews is when the expert stops and says 'yeah that's a really interesting question'. It takes a special kind of mind and an in the moment listener to stump an expert in a way that is enjoyable for the expert and the audience. Well done and thank you for genuinely being legendary!
Excellent Information! LOVE the comparison between Eastern & Western medicine. I SO respect his 'individualistic approach' Mental health is intertwined through all our cells! Thanks for this Tom & Dr. Frank!!

BEAUTIFUL DAY AND BEAUTIFUL CONVO!!!.... THANK YOU DR. LIPMAN, AND TOM .... Thank you so much for helping us find clarity and self soothing during this SHIFT IN OUR VISION FOR OUR WORLD!!!! GOD BLESS Y'ALL, N THANKS for sharing your Wife's Wisdom on health and mental care, self-compassion technique and modalities!!! Thx, Girl!!!
Thank you Dr. Lipman for being so clear. This interview helped me to understand the relationship between high methionine animal protein, autophagy, mTor and aging in a way that always eluded me before. As a nutritionist, this clarity is really essential for me to best help my clients with their goals. Thank you Tom for asking all the great questions once again!!
Not much new information here but consistent with what previous doctors and guests recommend, so overall it’s a 👍🏼. We always need to be reminded of what we are doing right and wrong since health’s studies are constantly changing!
Another wonderful and interesting episode. I haven't heard a doctor before stress the value of relationships, gratitude, kindness, etc on affecting health. I also really liked how he continually mentioned that one diet doesn't fit all. I'd like to know the herbs he recommends. I suppose that's on his website. Thanks for this amazing free content, Tom. It is my meditation & education on my long walks each morning.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 sensacional to hear someone open and balanced, not like the other doctor that you interviewed ( and I totally disliked and disagreed ) and said that homeopathy and similars were crap, when Germany uses Weleda for decades with total success and exportes it to the whole world 🙏🏻💖🌷
Once again there is presented conflicting information. Tom has interviewed Dr Gabrielle Lyon who says the older you get the more protein you need to eat. She recommends 30-40 grams per meal. She also says as we get older you want to activate mTor. She also explains that the reason to eat so much protein per meal is to get enough of the amino acid leucine which drives the protein into muscle. Then you interview these other Drs who say it’s dangerous. It would really be nice to have this info cleared up. I’ve been recently following Dr Lyons advice, muscle centric medicine. But honestly at this point I don’t know who to listen to.
It’s about balance. Too much Mtor and you will promote excessive growth (cancer). Too little Mtor and you will have too little muscle and suffer from sarcopenia. You have to stay in the middle. I would recommend eating a pescatarian diet of trout, sardines and salmon to get the most bang for your buck. If I’m going to eat meat, I want it to be the best meat possible. Look at the Blue Zones, they eat fish 3 times a week (no red meat and barely any poultry) yet live longer than anyone else.
Use your common sense. High protein diet will lead to renal insufficiency in the long run. That's why people in Blue Zones live the longest, because their overall protein intake is low, they are vegans or mostly vegan.
Whoops hit send to fast. Like I was saying that’s not what she says. She says mTor is not dangerous. Also I wouldn’t think 30-40 gram of protein per meal is balanced. She recommends 1 gram per pound of body weight. That’s why I don’t really know who to listen to. It would be nice to get the opposing sides together for an interview. I’m just trying to be the healthiest I can be. I dint even know how you’d know how to balance your own protein without guidelines if that makes sense.
Hope this isn’t too dumb a question but what does he mean by animal protein? Does that extent to eggs and fish? To avoid excessive methionine what shouldn’t I be eating beef? Chicken? Eggs?fish?
I think it will be a good approach to bring the eastern medicine and its knowledge to the mainstream as is with the modern (western) medicine . What do y'all think ??
That’s what functional medicine is!! Western science (studies, advanced lab testing, etc) but with eastern or holistic treatments (diet, lifestyle, herbs, mindset, mindfulness, etc)

At 16:00 the way the Dr's previous pescatarian diet is worded may give the impression that fish causes diabetes. It's the grains that are the problem, fish is incredibly healthy, especially wild caught.
He is wrong stating that mTor is stimulated only by animal protein. Insulin is more potent in stimulating it than protein. So there's 2 parts in that equation. The best way know so far is to consume food as seldom as possible.

Those in the Blue zones live in spite of eating fish 3 times per week. A well planed vegan diet is best.
