    Thanks for taking my question, I appreciate your collective experience/expertise. It helped me a lot. I understand why you couldn’t “drop a name” of an insurance company. Thanks for the advice and keep these forums coming,❤

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Was a very good question and it really is up to you. Insurance can be hassle with cost, don't forget deductible, and updating/submitting new values to your insurance company. I prefer my notes nearby so I can play with them i.e. TH-cam channel. But I did invest in the safe that fits under my desk area (easy to access), lag bolts to the floor, and is fire proof. Here's the link to what I purchased on Amazon - beware it weighs 124 pounds. Whatever you do you should do something.
      www.amazon.com/SentrySafe-SFW205CWB-Fireproof-Waterproof-Combination/dp/B00HS3NI4W/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=1D5TD92STWXAQ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9._SVnEemJ_vz7j6JhgALhOfGSGPofJnXlzt4D5rpMzSADYzh1uGeeSgd_GNVlozEcmsLsVxFmV9xHRjYeaE88e0Ej4U_bdM1fv4K19rPOdIgi1iAXJVCnhjfu2dqCgPzHFxM75I_tkRxu1DYRCzOSSoJNXDr2-Kj-QhIqh23n-3rC0reFrwbtGZElK_cn1d81x7mbcE3kX4E0QhQhA22lrt4FSKkc2a6Cp9rfIPfbRutgj8rbBqNrw_Coq7G8ADoSltWk4yaY1Thtrhow8k25wT3tpuWE3xafwTwwRGaqR6E.Ksm3M5vacOr5XmXpmrwnO8lUxxIlHVkL0sMpAPklYYQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=Fireproof%2Bsafe&qid=1735967373&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A24434721011&rnid=24434706011&s=hi&sprefix=fireproof%2Bsafe%2Caps%2C135&sr=1-3-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

      @ I too have a safe/vault. Empty it weighs 2,000 lbs. it is also fire rated as well as a “wet pour”, not just the steel walls. It has concrete on 5 sides. It’s also bolted into the concrete floor. I do feel safe…so to speak. However, I wasn’t sure others protected their prized possessions. Thanks again

    Great show! This Q&A was incredibly enlightening. It’s disappointing that forums aren’t serving collectors as effectively as they should. While TH-cam offers great content, it doesn’t provide the same level of interactivity as a two-way chat on a dedicated currency forum. Honestly, after seeing the high standard you’ve set with everyone’s various YT channels, the idea of starting my own TH-cam channel to talk just to talk about my notes feels pretty intimidating!

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks StarATL - great question by the way. I think the issue with a forum is that someone has to be "the police" and it's a thankless and time consuming job if done correctly. I believe a TH-cam channel is pretty easy control. I've been lucky and have only had to remove one comment and have not had to block anyone. But someday a troll will find my small channel. As for you I think it's time we talked because I would highly encourage you to have a channel if that's what you want to do. It can be easy (quick and dirty) or complicated - like I make it (but I really enjoy it). What matters is the content and the ability to show, with some quality, notes, etc. My email is polarcurrency@gmail.com - reach out to me and will go from there. As always I appreciate the support.

    Question for the Next Roundtable already! What are your favorite resources for new collectors. Books, websites, etc. I wonder how to find the (approximate) known population of large size notes. I know PMG and PCGS list their populations seperately. Is there any site that lists an estimated total?

    • @buccos2004
      @buccos2004 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Steve turned me on to "Paper Money of the United States" which is obviously the Bible of collectors, but I didnt know that as a total newbie, of course! So thankful for that tip.

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      To my knowledge the only website that comes close Track & Price which is $129/year (trackandpriceus.com/purchase/) there are some books that provide old numbers and I would add that to every currency collector book list is the Whitman Encyclopedia of U.S. Paper Money which does provide estimated populations and print numbers but was published in 2009 - so pop. report info is dated but it has a TON of information. Pricing is all over the place for hardcover $30-$300 but there is a e-version .pdf

    The back of the notes is fair game. The front needs to be consistent, much like the quarter series. I would like to see something along the lines of the 1914-18 series FRBNs

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The back is the low hanging fruit and would be super cool. But Congress is standing in the way - there is actually a law that prohibits the Treasury/BEP to make any design changes to the $1 & $2. The reason? The vending machine industry!!! They didn't want to make the investment to change the readers for the $1 - the $2 got thrown in there because it's not worth the cost to redesign - fair enough than why even produce it. And most vending machines now take larger bills and credit cards...I'm getting worked up. But great idea.

    While one may not "need" a top pop, I think they are great to own when it comes to currency

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Agree - and no one "needs" anything for collecting currency and Top Pop is becoming a thing for paper money. We just need PCGS-Banknote to provide a population report like they do with coins and PMG already does with currency.

    For Betty, I would suggest getting a 1928 $1 Legal Tender for $100 or so in any condition as that note is starting to be noticed and increasing in price.
    My question was based off a blurb in a recent issue of Banknote Reporter, although I did also notice those headlines on Google homepage. As for Stu's response, I actually would love to see the $1 and $2 be replaced with circulating coins, and it be mandatory like the other countries. And like I said before, would love to see $1 and $2 bills be used for Commemorative Notes, even if not for circulation, but at a more reasonable price for anyone to purchase than the mark-up for silver and gold coins. Talking up to $7 for a $1, up to $15 for a $2.

    • @PolarCurrency
      @PolarCurrency  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Timothy - great suggestions and yeah we just don't need the $1 and $2 except for commemoratives which would be FANTASTIC!

      Good morning bro.Entertaining and educational video,as always,love watching these.Thanx for answering my question first,I feel special,😄.The reason I asked that is because the night before at work,I got a 1974 $50 bill,xf.I knew what you guys were gonna say,and just like anything collectible, condition.I would like to add my opinions on a few things.As far as changing designs,I think changing the back of the $2 bill for 2026 would be cool, just like they did in 1976,to Washington Crossing the Delaware,it would fit perfectly.I don't like polymer notes, everything is made of plastic,our notes don't have to be.Discontinuing the $1 bill is not gonna happen,maybe the $2.Noone wants to carry a pile of $1 coins, they're not gonna get rid of the $100,and they're never gonna make a $500 bill again,I think just because of counterfeiting.Im like Stu,old school,I write everything down on paper, Google already knows everything,they don't have to know what I collect.And never selling anything I have,no matter the price,are my hometown Nationals, which will be passed down to my son.Hope to see more of these,I'd love to be on one of these,but I maybe a little too outspoken sometimes 😄,I can't help it.Have a great day

      @@667hodge Thanks for the add on information. Always cool to see what another collector does. And the $1 isn't going anywhere soon. It would have to get past Congress - there is literally a law! And no one is willing to f#*k with George!

    • @collectingonthecheap56353
      @collectingonthecheap56353 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @667hodge Honestly, how many dollar bills do you end up with in your pocket after shopping or purchasing things? People make it seem like they will be carrying one hundred dollars in one dollar coins on the regular if the government dropped the paper dollar. I use cash very often, and seldom have more than ten ones in my wallet just from ordinary transactions. I have purposely carried one hundred singles on occasion, and admit it is extremely awkward. I have also carried one hundred dollar coins, and found that to be barely heavier than having my laundry quarters in my pocket ($25 in quarters).
      Realistically, I do realize that the current status quo will apply for a few more generations. 😊
