What also strikes me in particular is how stable the car is on the road, even at high speeds. That also explains how it was possible to set a lap record on the Nordschleife with an unmodified Leon Cupra back then. Simply a great chassis!

I had the 2016 cupra 290. Was a great great car. Only exhaust mod. i did was resonator delete on the stock exhaust. Was really loud with just that modification, huge dsg farts and lots of over run as stock!. Even if you are in cupra mode, when you start the gearbox is in D mode and not S mode, this also makes the dsg farts less noisy. So to get noise, gearbox in S mode and from there manual or s mode. Driving profile doesnt matter, its the gearbox.

I am going to buy 2016 not hatch back but the station wagon and I heard that it has VW GTI engine which is not seen as reliable. What is your experience how long did you have? I am getting a deal its cupra 128k (kms) on meter and with mugen intake and exhaust
@@saadalijan9502 the cupras have the same engine as the GTI except with a bigger turbo. I dont know what you have read it but the EA888 is a very reliable engine. The US and EU versions are different,, the EU version being better. I had 2 cupra 290 hatchbacks, both 2016. Not a single problem ever during my ownership. Just change oil every 10k km and dsg oil and you cant go wrong.

I just upgraded to one from the 181ps TDI Leon, also my dream car and it doesnt fail to live up to expectations!
The 2.0 tsi EA888 Gen 3 or 4 are one of the best 4 Zylinder engines!

@@joachims83 ja top speed fahrten sind die Schwachstelle aber ansonsten bis auf wapu sehr solide und zicken nicht viel herum mit sehr viel leistungspotential! So gut wie jeder motor hat seine Schwächen und wenn man bedenkt wo er überall drinne ist da ist er eigentlich echt gut !
@@zenon4383 ist doch genau der selbe Motor! Die kolben sind halt vmax fahrten anfällig vor allem wenn die Leute dann 95 er sprit tanken und andere Software fahren ! Da ist er obenraus nur am klopfen klar hat man dann viel Verschleiß! Leider kenne ich kaum Leute die den Wagen 102 oktan gönnen und schön warum und kalt fahren ! Aber behaupten tun das alle !

You have to set Cupra again when the car is on otherwise it stays on normal engine mode.

@@Tantrix1 i leave mine in individual mode and then if i put the gearbox in sport i get all the dsg bangs and stuff
literally pull the dsg lever back and it goes into sports mode lol

Well this is awesome as much as other hot hatches such as Veloster and Civic Type R, and Focus. But it’s sad we cant get one here in this country except for import on our own, by paying much money than retail price in local markets
really liking my one I got new about 6 months ago. Thinking of a stage 2 to around 400bhp which makes them really rather fast

@@shaggy_e210 i think because the VAG groupe doesn't want to sell seat on US because it's called the cheap Volkswagen, but of course not. In Mexico we have Seat since 20 years ago. Seat cars have a lot of fans in Mexico.

Cheaper or less fast than the vw R, the cupra 290 is faster than the R and S3,only from a standstill there quicker.and the cupra out handles them.🙏🏻

A far better looking car than the Golf GTI or Golf R, and the Audi S3. More subtle and understated, plus not a magnet for car thieves. If you can live with a slightly inferior interior than this is a great car 👍.

Just so boorinng, Id take a clean MK1 R over this anyday, at least that was special and looked different to the standard Leon. Love the channel and reviews, but these new hatchbacks are just all the same. Sure theyre fast, but over electric compensated, fake noise, tighter restrictions on performance, SO much plastic, cheap build quality and really dull looks! rant over, great channel :)
They are decent cars but not the best for backroads. Same with GTI, feel heavy and not the best handling. To be fair I am comparing to the rs200 I had. New yaris looks quality

I don't think there is a faster car in that type of Cars that is faster than a Golf R or Leon Cupra. Look at the excel list from this site and look to a fwd hothatch who is untuned faster as this one in the 100-200 sprint.
The leon cupra is more fast than golf r cause is more lighter
@@bobby____456 the R is faster till 80km/u beacouse it has grip. Above 100 the Cupra is faster.
