Original song & Ana's cover: A strong woman who has a hard time bearing the burdens of her family. Caleb's cover: Same thing but the it's a strong guy. J. Young's cover: A sociopathic slave driver who feeds on the suffering of others and keeps giving them harder and harder tasks just to see them crack under the pressure. Ana and Caleb are the guys being exploited and they sing about letting go of the pressure.
The three of them look like new Pillar (Wo)Men from Jojo! I love this song so seeing a "cursed" spin is awesome too! Really encompasses some of the stress I've been feeling the past few days.
Jonathan sounds like he's being used as a killing machine for so long that he's desperate and fuels his dispair into pure rage to rampage even more. Caleb sounds like someone who has been enslaved, and he's so done with it that he started slaughtering his masters and obliterating anyone who got close to him. I don't view this song as "Cursed". I think it's a little closer to that feeling of despair and anxiety deep within anyone feeling overburdened or overwhelmed with whatever it is they are facing. It's a peek into the inner world of anyone experiencing it. The original was fantastic, it was fun, and while it does address the character's struggle it also glorifies her march onward and how tough she is. Which misses the point a bit.
Just because what She is doing is harmful to an extent, that doesn't mean the fact that she has been able to withstand everything thrown at her until that point isnt somehow amazing. Her gift isnt the weakness, its the pressure others put onto her because she is strong, hence why they give her back her gift at the end of the movie, and not just take it away and show her being happier. She wants to be strong, likes being strong, and sure people around her are taking advantage of that, but the ability to withstand that pressure and keep marching onward without snapping and using that strength against somebody is something to be praised. To me... This sounds like a twisted version of what the song stands for. Like instead of the older sister bearing the weight of the pressure put on her, it's a dark voice telling the younger sibling to blow off all their familiar responsibility and let the older sister pick up all the lack. That way they can live without ever carrying share of the weight. I can see this as some kind of internal struggle where the younger sibling is being mocked by and dark version of themselves.
This is so haunting, I like how it's set out with Jon being the rage or anger with Caleb showing the anxiety, and Anna showing the wanting for happiness, all-round good family values, really gives an interesting insight into a different angle that Disney could have gone.

Suddenly, Luisa becomes the _other_ designated "problem child" in the family. When so many other people went swoony for "We Never Talk About Bruno," this is the song from Encanto that grabbed me mind, heart, and soul. The pun on service in Surface Pressure. The frustration of being treated that way whether you're valued or not. And so, you find the dark underbelly of "I swear I will stone this place from the highest mountain if I'm pushed too far" within it and open it up to all of us. Bravo. Thank you for loving "Surface Pressure."
This version of the song makes it seem like Luisa has three personalities who's burn out and driven crazy from overwork. Jonathan is the fierce determined worker side of Luisa that loses her temper, Caleb is the side of Luisa who's afraid of the monster she could become if she gets pushed any further, and Anna is the personality created from the employer who kept telling Luisa to work

Yall three should start a band or smth😂....seriously though...so good...I think anything music related involving any of you three is just directly a masterpiece❤🔥
How the heck did they manage to take a song that originally gives of vibes along the lines of "I'm over exerting myself because I wont let anyone down, but I might not actually strong enough to keep this up" and turn it into "I am restraining myself from just letting myself cut loose and break everyone's neck". They didn't even change any lyrics or the melody. HOW?!?

Jonathan is the fierce determined worker side of Luisa that loses her temper, Caleb is the side of Luisa who's afraid of the monster she could become if she gets pushed any further, and Anna is the personality created from the employer who kept telling Luisa to work
What sounds like is about to break is a demon out of their bonds. This was amazing and like what has been said before, you three are God's of music on TH-cam.
You sound like my D&D group's dungeon master voicing the BBEG. That's a compliment.
1:03 okay this verse is impeccable- you sound like your voice is actually strained during the "stop". Its like you're struggling to lift something up. This fits the theme perfectly!
Yooooo, this makes Luisa sound resentful rather than inadequate/anxious over how much she shoulders! Didn’t expect to feel some feels for this cursed cover 😭👏
That little breath at the end is a nice touch.
This. Is. AWESOME!!! It sounds like a villainous trio of siblings where the big sister was expected to the great evil things but the other two brothers were ignored, making them develop a hidden sense of jealousy and nervousness.
The original is Luisa trying *not* to have a mental breakdown, this *is* Luisa having a mental breakdown.
this honestly sounds like a corrupt god of strength who serves another
Whenever I listen to this, it’s always good for imagining OC/Fandom stuff, y’know?
you guys are GENIUS!!! great choices in giving Caleb and Anna those moments. make sure much sense! beautiful!
Oh, boy. You guys did it again. You are absolutely extraordinary.
I love how it sounds like a villain song now! How he can see the hero keeps messing up his plans and he’s failing expectations.
…..So this is day one of asking Jonathan young to do the 2003 strawberry shortcake theme song.
So I guess we're just running with the theme that these were just all tragic villain songs, but made upbeat in the final product? Okay, I'm not going to complain.
Been following you for over 6 years now man and the growth has been tremendous love these twists and all the originals you've come out with also I hope these collabs keep coming love the trio
Hell yeah! Love the original, and I already love your version!
I want to animate this so badly- IT'S SO GOOD!!! Absolutely perfect for a hero turned villain type of story!
Do it! I'd totally watch it
This was freaking AMAZING!❤️
I love how Jonathan's covers paint the soundtrack in a completely different light
Amazing! Gives chills in the best way
WHY DOES THIS HIT SO HARD 😭😭😭😭
Sounds like the sinister song a Disney character, which was previously a weak and pathetic individual, would sing after he/she got a major level up thanks to some dark deal/magic.
I would love to watch more Disney stuff with darker stories.
This is like Louisa’s villain origin like she became a villain bc she’s angry at her family for all the pressure they put on her
I feel four siblings, and these three are casted to the shadows because of the oldest sister and now they have come to claim their place...
Everyone mentions all the different versions of disney songs on Facebook/Twitter. But they fail to mention THE GREAT JOHNATHAN YOUNG
Hell yes! I've been waiting for this!!
Yall three should start a band or smth😂....seriously though...so good...I think anything music related involving any of you three is just directly a masterpiece❤🔥
i love the way you've turned the Encanto songs evil and dark so far. Keep up the great work!
I've been excited for this since I saw the short!! So excited I finally got the time to listen
This gives me the vibes of an AU where everything piling up on Luisa ended up making her snap and becoming the true villain and I love it
How the heck did they manage to take a song that originally gives of vibes along the lines of "I'm over exerting myself because I wont let anyone down, but I might not actually strong enough to keep this up" and turn it into "I am restraining myself from just letting myself cut loose and break everyone's neck". They didn't even change any lyrics or the melody.
HOW?!?
Lusia having her villain origin story after a few too many visits from the chancla
I was waiting for this and you didn't disappoint at all. This song unironically makes a great villain song.
Dude I was binging to a playlist of your songs when I got the notification..... Lmao awesome 🔥
please tell me you're gonna do all the songs like this, I'm loving this interpretation of the songs so much!
Not gonna lie, this gave me so much writing inspiration and I am absolutely in love
This is blessed, not cursed
I love this version, it's amazing, Jon, Caleb and Anna you did something amazing as a villain song
I don't know what it is but you three make me feel like listening to a psycho singing about the pressure they were in before the became evil. AND I LOVE IT LIKE NOTHING ELSE! ❤️❤️✨
Yay! Another one to add to my Spotify, love it so much!!! Your songs are basically 75% of my Playlist 😂
The art is priceless I love it 😭😭
This is both awesome and terrifying at the same time!
This is extremely incredible! 💚
There's always a big three from mythology to anime. You three are the pinnacle of TH-cam music artists! Be it covers or original songs the quality always exceeds expectations!
This song was sick before and now it’s sick and spooky 😂 can you please do Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield!?!?
As always, you manage to deliver an amazing song!
That thumbnail is already cursed enough
This is unironically a bop and encapsulates the emotions even better than the original song (which was way more relatable than it had any right to be)
I don't even know the original, but loved this version so much I'm not tempted to compare them!
Yay, the full version, this song with this trio gave me chills hearing it!
Was wondering when you'd cover this
THE HARMONIES!! THE PICTURE!! EVERYTHING!! YAll great job!
