Yeah, the video production is amateurish but you have to remember this was only a month after their debut as Dreamcatcher. They had no money and they shot it on a basketball court with one camera. I can see what they were trying to do with the shots that look a little odd, but they just didn't have the resources to spend more time re-shooting and polishing the rough bits. Despite that, the appeal of the group is overwhelming and the arrangement of the song is far better than the original. I don't know who did the arrangement but it really sounds like the work of LEEZ and Ollounder. The MV, like Dreamcatcher itself, was ignored up until around the release of Deja Vu when their popularity really started to explode. It has over 11 million views now. When I saw it around the end of 2017 it had less than 50,000 views.
Well personally, I don't listen that much to other music other than KPop. I knew some Marroon 5 songs but not this one and when I checked the original version after this cover, I can definitely say that I prefer much more the cover (because of the sound and the vocals, and obviously the choreo). That's why we often say they are the queens of cover. And personally, I also initially found the cuts weird because I thought it would be a one take but it's OK. They probably took the best scenes each time hence some choppy things here and there and the transitions were less smooth back in the days (they did better later for their special clips like "Full Moon" for example). I believe the original song is a B-side, so I'm not surprised you hadn't heard of it; when I first went to check it out (after hearing DC's, of course), I failed to find a video for it on TH-cam before eventually going to Spotify to listen to it. I haven't bothered listening to the original since. It's a decent enough song, but after DC's cover, it just seems... _less,_ somehow. And I was today years old when I even _noticed_ the choppy camera work... and I've seen this video a _lot._ Guess I'm just too busy being mesmerised by our girls... 😍
I encourage you to look for the original version, the same with any dreamcatcher cover and you will see how different it sounds and how you like both or even more the one from dc than the other. I sometimes also criticize the shoots, like in MusicBank today, the truth is even those of the mv's because it doesn't seem to me that they take out their full potential sometimes although it has improved a lot, and as they already mentioned this video was when they were baby Dreamcatchers haha
yeah, the editing was very lame, that white balance is weird too. as a video editor myself I also notice that kind of thing. but this was at the very beggining, like a month after DC's debut.
