    Excellent tip, it never occurred to me to polish the chamber of a die, but it makes so much sense...I have seized cases in dies before and it makes for a bad day.

    I have a Lee 223 die that was a bit rough when I got it.
    I made a whip using a piece of. 25 inch brass round bar.
    Slice the round bar length wise .375 to .50 deep using a cut off wheel ,or a hacksaw if its all you have. Use red or green scotchbrite .cut little strips and insert into the slots in the brass.
    Run it in a pneumatic die grinder or dremmel. This is an old machinist trick.
    You can lube with hornady 1 shot, or WD works fine .
    This will polish your die as smooth as a babys ars, and your brass wil be silky smooth.

    If you want to show the inside of the die, a bore scope would be the best bet.

    I also polish the expander button with autosol and a cleaning patch. I put the de-capping/ expander stem in my drill and hold the patch with autosol against the expander button and give it a spin for a minute or 2. The button looks like chrome after and slides through the case necks with less resistance.

    If you have the ability to make an adapter, a Cotton Bore Mop would be better than a regular Dremel buff form the risk of collet nut contacting inside the die aspect given that bore mops are significantly longer than a regular Dremel buff wheel. The problem though is even the #6 thread size is too big to fit a Dremel collet since the biggest collet that I'm aware of is 1/8" (.125") where as a #6 thread has an OD of .138" (which you "might" be able to get locked into an 1/8" collet but I cant say for sure as I've never tried) and if its a #8 thread, then even worse at .164"

    If you have a piece of brass stuck in your die you just need to pull up the Decapping pin out of the way. And then clamp your die in a Vice and drill with a .201 drill and tap it with a 1/4-20 tap. Then select a socket that goes around the outside of the case but rests on the die and put your bolt through the center of it with a washer and start tightening the bolt up and it will remove the brass case quite easily. Then of course you will have to remove the decamping pin from the piece of brass. No need to hammer it out at your friends house.

      Rule of thumb for me has been 2 thousands under bullet diameter. The short action customs bushings have worked well here. I've heard tell of some magnum rounds performing well with more neck tension but lack the magnum primers to test that now for a while.

      @@foonus406 problem is you have to factor the case wall thickness. I had been using .0145 neck thickness and had the appropriate bushing. I messed up a die by sizing my cases, trimming them down, then accidentally dropping one on the concrete floor and resizing it. It seems like a bit of brass managed to get into the chamber of the die and the next few cases really pressed it in, now the last 50 cases i did have 2 scratches the exact same distance apart on every single case. I was wondering what the strongest metal pick i can use to try and scrape the brass out without damaging the die? Any ideas ??

    What is the difference between the bushing die and the FL die?

    • @DW-35
      @DW-35 ปีที่แล้ว

      FL die sizes the case body down within CIP or SAMMI spec and sizes the neck down to whatever is set by the die manufacturer.
      FL Bushing die aslo sizes the case body down within CIP or SAMMI spec, but the neck sizing is controlled by the user, with the use of interchangeable bushings.
      There is a few ways to work out which bushing you need. Hopefully helped, hope you have a great day 🙂
