In this pt.2 of painting the Mkiv Supra Build, I got the Side skirts, bumpers, door handels and the gandor mirrors in the booth to paint them the same as the car! I ended up running into some random issues with the paint, first running the candy, and then getting a whole lot of dirt in the rear bumper and other pieces. I do a little theory testing on seeing what i can get away with as far as repainting pieces or just being able to polish them.

The wet sanding did the trick on the quarter panel. The paint looks absolutely killer with a little finesse.
Considering you just did a candy paint job for the first time with the added stress of such a large audience, I think it came out amazing. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Besides, there’s enough of us here that would enjoy 659 cut and buff uploads.

Cut and buff is the best part
You take a lot of pride in your work, we can all see that, and the paint looks amazing already. You're a perfectionist, so no matter how many times you paint this car, it will never be "perfect" to your standards even if no one else can notice the flaws. And if it ever is perfect, then you'd never drive it for fear of screwing it up. Get the paint to a point that you're reasonably satisfied with (which will look perfect to everyone else), finish building it, drive it, and enjoy it!! Life is too short to stress out and try to make everything 100% perfect all the time man!

You can tell floors are wet in this video with the bumpers I didn't pay attention to it in first one though
Also another trick to help is to tape up the thin clear plastic draping to the walls it will create static and attract a lot of the dust as well. Doing that with wetting the floors should help tremendously.

Those divots look like the ones I sent you from doing my buddies front bumper. For me it was clear coat chunking up on the last coat. Probably from me not cleaning shit well.

You have a lot of wet sanding and polishing ahead of you! Or just sand down the imperfection/dust particals and flow coat it.

Powdered guide coat is your best friend when wet sanding therefore you know when to stop and the previous grit's scratches are removed. It takes the guessing game out of it. Awesome work though and trust me I feel your pain, I've burnt through many times

Honestly the buffed spot looks fantastic. You're gonna notice everything but to me it looks perfect

If you get the paint absolutely flawless it will never leave your shop in fear of getting dings and chips. Fix the few spots you can and roll with it.
The dirt is most likely from kicking it up walking around ,wetting the floor helps a little with that
Trevor, I think the car looks cool. Keep at it and double check everything. Just watching you paint all the things you did this year, has given me confidence to paint some car parts I have. You keep putting out the video's and I'll keep watching.

Love the Supra. Just roll with it as it is. It looks better then 99.9% of cars on the road and it’ll get little nicks if you drive it. Get it together so you can start enjoying it!

What is the point of 131 episodes of primer and sanding if he doesnt fix a a couple hour paint job?
There is still a long way before it is ready to drive. Get started now so it’s ready to go in the spring!
I say take it outside, and see if the imperfections show up more in the natural light, as apposed to the light inside your shop.... I'd do whatever makes you happiest with the result... you're gonna be the one to live with it, and if it bothers you, then you might as well fix it right? Awesome job so far, looks incredible! SUPER excited to see the car come even more together!
My OCD is kicking in, why not spray the whole bottom of the side skirt. Regardless if it can't be seen

Don't sweat it Trevor. I dropped $12k and so much time on a paint job for my Z28, it was never meant to be built as a show queen, but I got so obsessed with the paint that I forgot to enjoy the drive (for awhile). A couple years, some little dings, and a few chips later; I learned that imperfections are what makes memories. So buff her out, wrap the front in Xpel, and rip a 2nd gear burnout 👍
What works for me. Is bend a razor blade and put tape on the ends of the blade and scrape the run flat. Works like a charm 👍

The paint looks great! As soon as you wet sanded and polished it looked amazing and no pay job is perfect. It was your first time shooting candy and you did a hell of a job. I like the plan you have enjoy SEMA!

For that little dark spot, what I’ve done that has work is put some heavy cutting compound on your finger and massage it down, avoids messing with the surrounding paint
You picked one of the hardest colors to spray boss! But don't be so hard on yourself. You can tack rag your base coat before clear/tinted clear, that helps take some trash out, wet the floor down before each coat, clean your gun really well, and strain your paint very well!!! I do this for a living man and there's a reason it isn't cheap, it's very hard to do!! Be careful when you cut and buff, you don't have much clear coat on there and you will be cutting into the tinted clear and creating light spots like you did on your side skirt. Definitely should have sprayed the entire side in stead panel edge to panel edge but hind sight is 20/20. Good luck buddy and keep at it, be proud of your work!! Love the videos man!!

Tack cloths are a wonderful thing. Not sure if you used one but I didn't see you wiping it down with one.
Man i dont know much if anything about painting cars but. Let me start i love your car i am a new subscriber and the color pulled me to your videos i love the color red and your candy color is amazing yet. You should have spent more time prepping your area to be as free as possible from dust and what not. You did an amazing job painting the car just lacked in prepping the space you had to work in. Love the car love the vision keep your head up man and keep going it will all come out in the end. Good luck.

What we do to keep dirt down in our booth is wet the floor down and it's really helped we spray tri coats about every week

That booth has been nothing but trouble, might wanna see if you get another one in the books. Otherwise, good on ya for sticking with it.
I could be wrong but I sprayed a fender and when I sprayed the last layer of clear I sprayed to early which caused the same dimpling from what it looks like

Whats brother loving the supra build series doing an amazing job quick tip maybe get the booth floor wet / damp before spraying it keeps dirt and stuff from flying up while you spray been doing it at my spray shop for years all the best buddy.

Get it all polished and ready for the fun part, assembling it, paint job looks great to say its your first time with a candy paint job
Also if u are second guessing what it will look like now is the time to fix it cuz u will kick yourself later if u dont ive been there. At least hit it with 1000 and put a few more coats of atraight clear ontop cuz the candy will fade and u wont have any room to sand and buff if its only one coat ontop the red. Im not trying to talk shit either by any means your doing a awesome job just sharing some things i have learned and wished someone would have told me when i was doing some projects of my own! Hope you read these coments! Good luck and keep up the hard work man!

Rickk Panero just my thought wouldn't there only be one coat of everything just saying he'd be basically starting over, he'd have a much thinner over lay of paint and only a coat of each clear he would just be stacking over his old paint which don't sound like a good idea no paint just will come out perfect that's what wetsanding and polishing is for that's how people win paint awards on classic cars because of the good old fashion elbow grease of wetsanding and buffing!
Hey bud looks like water droplets from airline what filter are you using on your gun . The dark is from the pearl being layd too wet almost needs to be a tack coat first what temp was the booth might effect the laying of the paint too

Why didn't the side skirts get a good coat on the bottoms?

For paint runs i know you can take icing and put it over the high spot of the run then sand the icing off that way you can better isolate it and it protects the surround area from being sanded through.
You work really hard on the car, only if it really bothers you than re-paint it, if not then leave it as it is.

1. drain the air tank. 2. Drain & clean the filter unit on the tank outlet. 3. Install a new filter and dryer on your air line. 4. Install a filter at the gun inlet. 5. Clean your gun & cup. 6. Clean the gun & cup again. 7. Clean up the areas outside the booth and adjacent to the doorways, mop the floors. 8. Clean the spray booth, especially the floor. Turn on the booth exhaust system and blow out the booth with an air gun, starting furthest from the filters. 8. dampen the floor of the booth with a clean sponge or sponge mop and clean water before shooting paint (old trick - holds down dust and prevents the airflow from the gun from making it airborne). 9. Didn't see if you blew off the parts or tacked them before spraying. Might help.

some of it almost looks like fisheye, how are you prepping the panels? I know we had a cleaner a little while back that for some reason hated clear coat and would fisheye everytime, changed the pre spray cleaners and never had a problem again
I had something similar before and noticed it was bit from a stand I repositioned, dry overspray came off on my hand then fell off whilst I was spraying :(, I'm sure you will bring it back to an awesome finish Trevor.
and you are this deep in the paint, and i know how much pain to repaint it cause i did experience this too, just protect it with good wax, no dry clean when you put hours and hours into making this colour pop!
Damn it bro. Man it looks so good. I get the OCD thing with a little dirt here and there, but I would clear, cut/buff and see. I think it will be all good.

Watch ammo NYC step by step paint job. You can fast forward it to when they're actually painting. They throw a lot more water on the floor and put up the plastic wrap sheets on the walls to attract dust away from the paint. Also what camera do you use?
