Your cake looks amazing I heard of sorrel cake before but never tried it but watching you make it looks amazing I am sure going to try it out. Thanks again for this wonderful recipe
I've heard of sorrel cake always wanted to try it. Thanks for sharing your recipe looks really good and delicious. Would love to have a piece. Delicious 😋❤
I just tried this recipe, I've heard about sorrel cake and always wanted to try it. Thanks to your recipe I made this sorrel cake, it came out beautiful soft and moist, tasty and delicious. Thanks so much for your amazing recipes. Your cooking channel is awesome. ❤
I’m so happy that you tried this recipe and it came out wonderfully! Thank you for letting me know that you tried the recipe and enjoyed it! Thank you for the support!🙏🏾
Thank you for this recipe. I grew sorrel for the first time last year and I got 50 gallons that I dehydrated. I have been trying to figure out different recipes to use it I was wondering have you ever tried cooking it on the lower heat to possibly keep the cake from cracking? I really appreciated your demonstration, no nonsense and straight to the point. Thank you.
Thanks for the trial and error till you got this interesting recipe. Sorrel is in…packed with vitamin C. Does the cake have the tangy sorrel flavour? I will try this but without the red food colouring . Have you tried a version using some of the pulped sorrel petals would it bring in the required red colour?
Hi there, this cake definitely has a tangy flavour. I did try it with the pulped sorrel petals and I did not like the outcome and the colour was grey with the fresh petal. I would have to do more testing with that, but I'm pleased with the outcome of the dried sorrel. Thanks for watching😊
Hi good day, loving this recipe but could i just use the sorrel juice itself and no alcohol because i have high blood pressure and even if i smell the wine my head starts pounding
That's a great question, and yes, you can just use the sorrel juice. We haven't tried it, so maybe just start with 1 cup of the sorrel juice and add as needed! Happy baking😊❤️
Thanks so much for your response. I live in Calgary. My brother who lives in Toronto is coming to Calgary next week. Do you seel your rum cakes or do you know anyone who sells tasty rum cake. I could get my brother to pick it up before he comes to Calgary. Thanks
I made this cake and it came out delicious. My question is I still have some sorrel soaking from last year. Can I use it this year? Its has rum and wine in it..Please and thanks
I am so glad to hear that your cake turned out beautifully 😍 You can use your sorrel alcohol it is fine. Thanks so much for letting me know and have a Blessed and Happy Christmas and New Year.
Great question! You will need 3 teaspoons of baking powder (For every cup of self-raising flour called for in your recipe, measure out 1 level cup (125 grams) all-purpose flour. Add 2 teaspoons (8 grams) baking powder. I hope this helps!!😊
Hi Laverne Thanks for the support I tried the recipe without color, and it came out purple, that's why I added it, and it was perfect. I would love to know how it turns out for you. Blessings. Roma.
We are in Canada...trust me, you don't want to come here in the winter 😂 The cake still has the sour sorrel tang to it but not too much! It is a sweet moist cake.❤️
My first time coming across this video it shows me the ingredients but it didn't show how much pounds of example Sugar, flour so on & so on for someone who knows nothing about baking
I am trying this recipe for christmas,so to be on the safe side in the video it is 3 packs of sorrel and the recipe below is 2 packs of sorrel i want 2 9inch cakes because my bf love cakes so much ,so to double the recipe i want to make sure i am using the correct amout of ingredients ,if u would'nt mind laying out the ingredients for 2 9inch cakes please .
You only need two packs of sorrel, I tried 3 packs but it was too much. For two cakes just double the ingredients except for the alcohol and the sorrel. I hope this helps! 😊
I have tried making sorrel fruit cake and it turned out great, but I find a humongous problem with the sorrel and I have tried five different brands including grown and packed in Jamaica and organic brands and it always have sand grits, I had to throw out my first cake so I test the puree by chewing on a little. I won't bake it for anyone because it takes gallons of water and many washings to get rid of what feels like very fine sand grits and its extremely unpleasant when your teeth crunch down on the grains. I'd appreciate it if someone would let me know if they've had this experience because on the baking shows they only lightly rinse the sorrel.
@@SakaFeteFood I appreciate your response and that'd be the best way to get away from sand grits but in all the recipe's they use pureed sorrel and I've never made sorrel wine.

You are very welcome!! Merry Christmas Geraldine and all the best for the New Year!❤️😊
You had me up to the coloring, think will do moine without.
The colouring is not needed, it is only to enhance the red colour but it will taste just the same with or without

Why you don't wash the sorrel . They are full of dirt
For anything else I would, but in order to keep the integrity of the alcohol, I opted not to wash them, as to keep the water out of the mixture. The brand I used is very clean, so I wasn't worried.
Good point, those sorrel is very dirty I know because I use it all the time ,also I take the egg eyes out,but to each is own?cake looks good.
The sorrel has to be washed period
Also take out the eye of the egg.
I think it looks good but you didn't give a measurement in each ingredient
Thanks for watching. The recipe is in the description. Happy Baking!!

So u dont wash ur sorrel
I usually do except when i am soaking it in alcohol.
The water would cause the sorrel to get moldy if it is not used within days, and alcohol will kill anything.
It should be thoroughly dry before adding alcohol.
Have a great day, and God bless.
This is real cake not water cake
Those packages of sorrel needed to be washed. I buy every year and the dirt on those leaves is ridiculous. Smh
I agree that with some brands you should wash! I find that this brand is clean, so no worries.
