    Hello Columbus, If you live in the Salt Belt, rustproofing the body is just as necessary as changing the engine oil.

    • @AdamB12
      @AdamB12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Mainer here...oh you are so correct. Costs around a couple hundred bucks a year to pay someone to undercoat it in oil (Fluid Film, for example). Vehicles bought brand new in the rust belt last around 10-12 years when untreated. Usually to a point where most state safety inspections in the rust belt would fail for excessive corrosion on frames, brake/fuel lines, etc.

      @@AdamB12 Exactly. Up here in Canada I take my car in for an annual treatment of Krown Rustproofing. Heading into its 18th winter, it is a solid as the day it left the factory.

      @@quirkygenius 100% true! I own a 2003 Tacoma and didn't hear anything about the recall until it was too late to take advantage of. I'm still driving it and have done some repairs. Bottom line, the rusting frame is NOT like any vehicle I've ever owned. It's poor design, poor prep work at the factory and crappy steel. I've had approximately 15+ vehicles and live in the same general area, no vehicle even comes close to how horrible this frame has deteriorated. I like the vehicle, features, body quality.... But OMG the frame. SMH

    I have frame issue on my 2006 Tundra which was not apart of the so call secret recall.
    I surprisingly was able to do the repairs on my frame by myself at home because no auto body would take on the job because they have no balls to do it even though I was willing to pay extremely good money for tue work and ask for zero warranty as well.
    I gotta say is probably one of the most proud accomplishment I ever did.

    I've owned a 2002 TRD Limited since it was new. Very little rust underneath in 2024. But, after driving on salted roads, I usually took it to a car wash and sprayed the underside just to make sure it wasn't saturated w/ salt. Must have worked; 22 year old truck w/ very little rust.

    Lol, I knew someone in MD that sold there truck back. I always wondered why the news never cover this recall.
    I also know another person that had to wait a year to get there truck back from the dealer. It sat in the back parking lot the whole time. He finally went in and told them he was going to get a lawyer. They told him to take his truck but he said no, because they promised to fix it and never did. Obviously, until he went in there complaining.
    His truck was stored at moons of Annapolis MD for the longest time.

    Had a 2007 Toyota Tacoma with lots of rust eating through my frame. I didn’t qualify for the recall. 2 months later a brake line broke due to the rust. Eventually saved up enough money for a down payment and Toyota bought it back for $14,000. Now I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4. 😃

    The dealership will waste your time and then deny frame coverage. Even if you get approved there is a 1500.00 or more fee to get the free frame replacement. Toyota also has composite bed cracking issues which aren’t under long term warranty and drivers side front differential needle bearing excessive play and many more issues. The new motors have plastic components on them as well. I’m not completely against Toyota, it is a buyer beware situation for an over priced vehicle with a lot of issues to know about. The good is that there is plenty of resources out there to do repairs yourself. The dealership is not to be trusted though
