Scribble some oil pastel onto a pallet then swirl with a paintbrush, dipped in zest it, and it will turn the oil into a paint like consistency. You can then blend the colours. Paint it on and you can use yr finger to smooth it out. Makes a great background medium. 👍🏻. X

Thank you so much for making this video. I picked up some oil pastels from a thrift store and had no idea what to do with them. I love Hanna (so thank you for the book recommendation too) and so this video was perfect!

I enjoyed this video. Its given me some ideas. I don't have steady hands either. But art is messy and that is ok.

I had never thought to use oil pastels on a coloring sheet, so I’ll give it a try. As a side note, posca pens are acrylic markers so they would have to go on the paper first. You can put oil over acrylic that has dried, but not acrylic over oil. Thanks for the video and the cool idea.

Great video! Love oil pastels, but they’ve always been too big for the detail in my coloring pages. The stumps are a game changer! Beautiful work!

If you vigorously shake the Posca with the cap on before you use it, until you can hear the little metal ball inside, then the Posca is thicker and more pigmented. Just don't make the mistake of shaking with the cap off because you may end up with Posca splattered all over your picture. I speak from experience. LOL I'm also with you on seeming to always end up with wavy/crooked lines when I use the Posca or white gel pens. I need to practice a lot more.

I am so happy that you made this video !! I have a cheap set of oil pastels & I have been not wanting to use them cus I wasn't so sure how to use them . The last time I remember using them was when I was in junior high school & it was a total wreck ! I probably won't use them to color , I want to use them more for backgrounds .Thank you again for the awesome videos , as usual ! 💛💛💛💛💛

Also you can use colored pencils over oil pastels.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I had never seen this method of coloring with oil pastels. I have a few boxes and I didn’t know frankly what to do. And also for the fixative. I definitely will be trying this method. Thanks for sharing.

Honestly I don't see why using these instead of normal pencils - that are less expensive, dont need paper stubs and especially fixative - to achieve the ecaxt same result. Even backgrounds can be better achieved with other less messy means... But thanks so much for this video, cause I was considering buying them but now i think ill save me the money... ❤

Its hard to see the exact effect in a video. Using oil pastels in this manner gives a different affect than colored pencils. If its what you're after its worth it.

Have you tried Krylon workable fixative on oil pastels? Wonder what that would do? Great idea with using a stump to oil pastel to paper.

You know, I have the same problem with posca. People are using it so easily in videos but when I try it just doesn't slide on smoothly. frustrating!!!

Do Not use your stumps on sand paper it ruins them. You only need to clean stumps off with paper. Sand paper is for sharpening pencils and pastel pencils. Check out Lachri Fine Art. She made a video on this.
