- Sub-1 hour hardcore glitchless run made possible by the new unstuck feature.
There are dumb mistakes but it's still a pretty cool run I suppose.
The "unstuck" menu item was added in the December 2022 update. The game keeps track of 10 of your previously visited locations and each use of unstuck brings you backwards to each of them. On the 11th unstuck the game brings you to the last base you exited. The game also won't add your location to the unstuck queue while inside certain alien bases. All of this is useful for warping long distances.
Unstuck is currently allowed in glitchless categories. I only used it for large time saves here. It can be used to save a small amount of time in far more places but I felt like that would get annoying for everyone, especially me.
Also new in this run is the use of a tool "LiveSplit Ship Explosion Information (1.0)" developed by some fine folks in the Subnautica speedrun discord. This tool is an addon for Livesplit that shows the current Aurora explosion time at the start of the game rather than having to find out many minutes into the run. This tool is available at www.speedrun.com/subnautica/resources.
In my experience it cuts the time needed to grind for a WR candidate run by 10x or more. I feel weird using it, but it's allowed in runs so I'd be wasting time by not using it.

I like how the unstuck option changed the entire routing. Good job on figuring that out and congratulations on the WR. You really deserve it 👍
It's funny how they tried to make it where it wouldn't teleport you to the surface so you couldn't cheese hardcore and never drown
But they still failed to stop it from happening because then speedrunners just said

That was a super impressive speedrun, and mad props for beating it without eating a single fish. Because of the abuse of the unstuck feature, I cannot call this a glitchless speedrun. The devs didn't intend for the unstuck feature to be used this way, because of this I'd consider that to be a glitch.

@@theussj i can appreciate that, and I suppose you are right, that is the rules he's following, however I personally disagree with the rule. I would call that a glitch. Its just my personal feelings which ultimately mean nothing for the speedrunner.

You'd be commenting naively on someone else's result of hard work and determination that they should impose arbitrary limitations so that they can't compete with the rest of the community they are a part of.

My best completion time is like 4 hours.
It completely blows my mind you can do it under and hour.

Well to be honest, I'd love to see how long it would take for someone to beat this game withouth abusing the unstuck. 4h is pretty impressive too if you didn't resort to this cheat.

I started the game in 2017 and completed in 2023…
If you have the beginning of the game down, you can def rush out a cyclops in under 30 minutes. You just have to skip on a few things you wouldn't normally want to skip.

I’m sorry but as a vet gamer, I gotta say it’s impressive but only to its current degree. No unstuck abuse would extend the run yes, but allow its original difficulty to be experienced more. Shifting expectations of the run a bit more.

Props. This run is amazing. One question. How come it never seems like hunger and thirst are a factor? Those bars never seem to decrease.

great run. I have a question. I don't quite understand the aurora explosion time. Is it random, or dominated by some mechanisms? coz when I tried my run last time, the explosion was after 1 hour.
The explosion happens at a random time between 46-80 minutes picked at the start of each run. The first radiation warning you get from your PDA happens at 1/5th of the explosion time, so if you get the warning at 12 minutes, the explosion would happen at 60 minutes into the run. In the past we'd reset at that warning a lot until we get a low explosion time but now they're allowing a Livesplit plugin that shows the explosion time at the start.

it's not considered a glitch by the people of the category however you arnt wrong for considering it a glitch as it is being used in a way unintended by the developers

It's probably unintended by the developers however the collision not being there before the aurora explodes *which he explains in a video is what happens* is kind of a fault on the developers and unlike the unstuck button isn't controversial enough to be argued against because the collision not being there for a certain period of time at the start really isn't him abusing a glitch it's that the collision simply isn't there yet
It could also technically be argued the collision may have been intentionally added in after the aurora explosion as some sort of collapse sort of like how you can get kind of close to the aurora at the start without a radiation suit before it explodes because the radiation hasnt been shot everywhere yet

just finished the upper tablet on my hardcore run and was exploring wondering whether to progress the aurora or more alien bases next. this dude heads straight to lost river after first tablet looks like, im pausing the vid to prevent spoilers but is this the path i should take as well?
This route really is only for speedrunning. Without spoiling anything, it's probably best for you to avoid the lost river on hardcore until you get a vehicle bigger than a seamoth.

Do you instantly end the run if you don't find nickel on your first attempt?
No, if I'm not lucky I'll make 2 passes for nickel. The first on the way to the lava castle / power plant has really tight timing so I don't get extra time to look. The second pass on the way out has a lot more time. If I can't find a 3rd nickel after 30-60 seconds into the second pass, the run is probably dead due to low health.

I used the air bladder there. It can give up to 15 seconds of air when full.

He broke it down in the description of this run but here's the short of it since I was wondering the same thing. The devs made the "Unstuck button" log your last 10 visited coordinates in the game based on certain criteria. Every time you press Unstuck it will essentially warp you to those ten locations from most to least recent. On the 11th unstuck usage it will send you to the last constructed "base" that you were inside of. It's not a glitch, but a feature placed in by the devs so it is allowed in the glitchless category.

Glitchless, but the rocks like instantly break? Theres so many speed runs, but everyones using some kind of cheat..
Mousewheel up. Just Settings, no Cheat. Its on the bottem left of the Screen.
technically it is unintended but also it's really just an oversight rather than abusing a mechanic as you could theroetically click the button that fast it's just that no human can but it's technically possible and the game acknowledges this by letting it happen
