Great introduction to character selection. Even though I have been playing for 20 yrs or so I learned a few things lol. My choice, in my older age I love lvling Tanks. The quick que's are great and lvling by pulling large mobs is strangely satisfying lol. Personally though I'm not a raider or a mythic kind of player..I leave that to the younger folks..ty fir the video..subbed.
@scramman Thanks for the comment and the sub! We do really try and step back in a lot of our videos and try and get in the shoes of new, returning, or more casual players. Break it down into simpler ways of looking at it. And I agree, there is definitely something satisfying about pulling a huge amount of mobs on my Prot Pally and knowing I am in no danger of death. But man does it take a while to kill the stuff ... lol.
Very good video man, helped me a lot as a new player! I'am really enjoying Fury Warrior, but it''s very demanding sometimes, might try other specs that have less APM to chill a bit.
Glad it helped @MesquitaMine. Yeah Fury Warr and Outlaw Rogue get me. I was a coder for 15 years and then wrote proposals for almost 15 years so a lot of typing over 3 decades. So high APM gets to me after a few hours of playing. But I love both those specs.
My opinion on BM Hunters' main strength: - On my opinion BM Hunters' main strength is AOE. Single yields good results in raid due to lateral factors, having sole single target dmg as secondary contributing factor, not the primary one. The only reason people consider single a strong suit of BM is not the dmg itself, but the mobility of the spec, allowing them to compensate with dmg, in comparison to others who have to move in order to do a mechanic or survive one. In a "Deathbringer" scenario, you can see how low BM single target dmg can drop and has always been like that. I struggle to remember a point where this particular scenario doesn't play out that way. - While AOE with beast cleave (introduced in MoP, and really picking up in Legion) is consistent and reliable. (except a few periods of time in the past, where it was nerfed to the ground and people remember them very well) Very very rarily have people done more dmg than me in m+ scenarios (20+), even during times when other specs have been crazy overpowered for like a patch or half a patch, before getting nerfed. And I have personally felt inferior in single target situations, in comparison to many other specs. At least in dungeons. In raids it's different, as for me, it's a much much easier environment, especially for a BM hunter, hence why we can compensate with the dmg and appear very strong due to other specs having to constantly lose dmg due to movement and surviving mechanics. So that single target being strong is not a one sided coin. :) Class/Spec selection in general terms: Nowadays most specs provide at least one talent pathway, covering aoe or single target. The choice has shifted more towards sustained or burst damage and difficulty of play. But one important bit is that people are also heavily influenced by "meta" specs, played by streamers and dominating tournaments (played by every single participant, without failure - same specs, same comps overaul) and that sometimes makes the decision for them. I have multiple friends like that... :D And one of them is actually skilled enough and can play at a high level with other specs too, but when it's easier and it does more dmg/healing, how can he resist it...? I guess... :D On this Video: Lastly, I want to say that I love the practical approach you've taken for this video. Back in time we used to pick based on fantasy, what we like the look of or the spell effects, but what you're doing here is more logical and more in line with today's standards as you'll play with other people very often, even if you want to be SOLO most of the time, and these days people do care how their peers perform more than ever before, what they do and play and if you have picked something you like the look of, but end up not liking the gameplay of, it would be bad for both you and your party or raid team, therfore I'd vote for your approach anytime. Thanks for the video. Something chill to watch at the end of the day is always nice. I know noone reads long stuff, but I felt compeled to write it anyways... :D
On the single target, we have no way of knowing yet, but the new Specialization talent tree certainly has some focus on Single Target so we may be more competitive. Especially with new talents like Venom’s Bite, Basilisk Collar, and Venomous Bite. Will start simming tomorrow after patch comes up to see how the builds pan out (want to get a video out to you all as soon as possible). 😀 I agree with you on the AoE for sure, especially when Call of the Wild is up. That spell is insane right now. I agree as well, I much prefer raiding to M+ (not sure why but it has always been that way). I had a chance to test the first 5 bosses on Heroic and a few of those have significant movement, so that will continue with Neru’bar Palace as well. On the AoE versus ST talents, our Spec tree has been completely overhauled so it is going to be interesting to see how all of this pans out and how we path down the talent tree to get to the “best” builds. Beta was for sure the first time I have ever played BM with both Explosive Shot and Barrage on my actions bars … lol. I was born a mathematician and science major so logical is for sure me. My wife says “yep, he has a spreadsheet for that” … lol. Thanks so much for the comment and we really appreciate the thanks!
@fujis5275 That would not work for me. After I try and heal the first key, my queue wait would be until the end of time. I would never get invited again ... lol
I usually play 4 characters pretty equally. One of each armor type: Plate, Mail, leather, cloth. Then i have them take different professions. Couple might have same gathering skill. And they share all their stuff. That will be much easier when warbands come. Basically the 4 characters on new campfire login screen are my main.
@ChosenGamingTV Thanks for the comment! Having different armor types is a really good idea and agree Warbands are going to help a lot. I have not done the professions thing in the past but am planning to hit all of them for the new xpac. Been going through and setting up my characters for what each one is going to do. So this go around I will main the warlock and play 5 other Alts to get all the profs. Druid for Mining and Herbalism just due to flight form.
This is always my problem. Sometimes I can't even reach maxlevel before I wanna reroll because I get the itch of something else or I see some other class looking cool or doing good in pvp or pve. Sometimes I can't even do end game content because I don't get that far on any character before rerolling. "play all classes " you say? I don't have time for that and don't want too. I want 1 main, 1-2 alts. That's it. Great video and I will consider these points this time.
@thorbeorn4295 Thanks for the comment! All classes have their up and down times. Those that are good for one Season mat be terrible the next. That is one reason why I don't chase the meta. Glad you found the video helpful.
@MaxMax-ib6gx Thanks for the comment! While I am not a big fan of Tier lists, let me think about how to approach something like that. Tier lists that rank according to “what is best” are really subjective unless it is based on the pure simulated numbers. But maybe there is a different way to rank that would be useful beyond pure numbers. Any ideas from our viewers are welcome as well. What would you all like to see in a ranking?
I got every class to 70 and geared them out in their full raid finder set in S4 of DF. It helped me discover that I loved certain classes very unexpectedly (Monk, Evoker) and hated some I thought I would really like (Mage, S-Priest). I gave it a good shot with all of them, tried all their specs. In the end, I like 7 classes enough I could main them - Hunter, Paladin, Death Knight, Monk, Rogue, Warrior. From there I studied a Reddit thread on what classes people intend to main someone else put a summary in Icy Veins about this today). Of those classes, I crossed off Hunter because it’s far and away the most popular, even though I got my BM Hunter at a maxed out ilvl. I also crossed off Paladin. At the top of my list are DK, rogue and Monk because hardly anyone is interested in them. Between now and August 22nd I’ll take these 3 classes to a 3000 M+ rating and through AOTC to figure out what I want most.
@Electric_ That is awesome! No doubt you will definitely stick with what you ultimately decide since you know enough about all of them now. That's the whole idea for sure.
@@TwoAngryFrogs for sure - the reason I did it is because every expansion I have the same problem. This is the only way to find a cure. For the record, I am heavily leaning towards DK and might end the experiment soon because it has both a tank and DPS spec that are great. Couldn’t learn to love Brewmaster.
@@Electric_ Blood DK I think is a lot of fun to play as well. The self healing on that tank is great. It was the same for me. It took probably two expansions for me to really land on the three I routinely play.
@TH-cam_Enjoyerlol Yeah BM Hunter in particular. I actually started as a pally in Vanilla up to Pandaria, but somehow ended up on BM when I came back to WoW during BFA.
Playing since 08, I've mained a mage. At one time I had 7 of them in my character list. I've whittled that down to three. My first mage, a gnome female who is currently fire spec, is still my main-main. But I've been playing female dark-iron paladin (Ret) for about eight months and LOVE the feel of bashing things in the face up close and personal. I can't heal worth spit, so that's right out. I can see me standing in the middle of the room, boss having retreated and everyone else is dead but me because I couldn't heal fast enough. The three i absolutely hate playing is Evoker, Demon Hunter, and, especially, Rogue. Just all the moving is harder for me. Unless I'm having to tank or heal, everything else is good (hence why I have 58 characters of all sorts. I have 2 demon hunters just because, two evokers for the same reason (collections), and no rogues. Yes, I'm an alt-holic and a collector of all sorts of things in game.
Hey @charlayned Alt-oholic here as well. Just deleted my Remix Hunter since I figured I did not need 4 of them when Warbands comes around ... lol. I think I have at least two of every ranged class. My problem is I actually like the leveling process so I will start a new character of the same class to learn a different spec.
For 20 years my main has been a hunter. Either MM or BM, but always my main. I do have 2 main alts. Ret Pally and Shadow Priest. Each are just so different from each other and love the different plsy styles. I do almost want to play Survival. Only because I got the Lego Axe. So it would be a minor troll to mog it on a hunter.
@DouglasD7k I do love some Hunter play as well! Destro is so different. Like no mobility at all ... lol. I started a Survival in Remix but just love BM too much.
Ranged, high movement, survivable, and mostly solo style, BM Hunter, Arcane or Frost Mage, Demonology or Afliction Warlock. I also like DK as I mained them for years and am very comfortable with them any spec
I’ve always played warrior or rogue with hunter rarely but I enjoy it as my only range class! I don’t play magic classes. I have played every class and even tried healing wrath expansion was only time I ever healed as disc priest as I felt that was the best time that class was enjoyable to play! (For me) and I never heal! Finding what you enjoy is the best advice to know what to pick! I’ve tanked as every spec besides brewmaster but enjoy warrior tanking the best regardless of meta I’m pushing high keys!
@emjaythegreat22 Thanks for the comment and great advice! I think we get too hung up sometimes on picking "the right one". A lot of it for me was it just felt comfortable playing a particular spec. Kind of just locked in with my brain, while others, even if they were easier or better, just did not click. It's a weird thing sometimes.
@@TwoAngryFrogs yeah for sure! I push keys for keystone hero and any class and spec can push +17-18 keys it really isn’t until you hit higher than that where the “meta” really starts to show and sway based off balance. Big part is running with same people you can’t be afraid to burn a key to push and that’s the biggest thing! I never play class I can’t enjoy. Whole point of playing the game for me is enjoyment and people lose sight of that when meta comes up not really knowing how important it is or isn’t.
When the game comes out I'm going to wait and see if its fun to play the game as a solo player again, like it was in legion. And then i will probably main my ww monk and make a ret pally alt.
@KingDJ524 I played solo while testing on the Beta and there are definitely a lot of things for solo players. I think Delves will will be a great thing for solo players or even small groups of 2 to 3 people. It gives another option that is not Mythic+ and Raiding.
@abusementpark153 I have not played a lot of Ele Shaman so do not know a ton about them. But the Ret Pally Hero talents are pretty cool from what I have played on Beta.
Omg this is such a a fantastic video..🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉..dragon flight I played a destro worgen warlock it was fun.now with all the changes and my focus on solo play with delves I really want to go back to being a mage but I also enjoy elemental shaman. And I'm so used to being a destro warlock. But now beast master hunter is going to be good.hmm....also the races make a difference too horde or alliance plus what racials will benefit you the most in you play..I have 45dys to figure this out 😅😅😅😅
@jessicahampton4581 Thank you! That stream of consciousness you just typed feels like my brain every day .... 🤣. I just started leveling another Ele Shaman. Looks like the changes coming for Ele in The War Within are going to improve that spec a lot more as well. Squirrel! haha
@fredbridges4012 Nah you can play all 13 classes and all specs if you want. For high level Mythic+ and Raiding you typically pick a Main since that character is the one you will work on gear and other stuff to progress the raid bosses. But even at that we still play a lot of Alt characters on the side.
@jbdh6510 Thanks for the comment. That is definitely a big reason people go for Druids. I know I will not heal or Tank in any advanced content, so I pretty much stick with DPS.
@salihkizildag Thanks for the comment! For me it is just the opposite. Find Destruction easiest and Affliction the most difficult. I have always wondered what it is about a given spec that clicks. Not sure if it is a left brain-right brain thing, how we think as far as patterns, or what, but it has always intrigued me.
@@Frosty616. Destruction. It really feels like you're just destroying anything in your way, no matter what consequences might come up. First destroy, then ask.
You forgot the most important one: look of the class. I personally love Evokers kit, specs and gameplay style but absolutely hate the uncanny valley scaley mode they are forced to be in and visage having 2 worst possible races (look wise) to choose from... Basically I really wanna play as a Evoker because of the gameplay but have to give up on atleast 50% of the game content because transmogs looks so horrible. It takes all fun out of collecting cosmetics and mounts when the character looks absolutely shit half of the time and cannot even wear shoulders in visage form because of how stupid 99% of shoulders look in scaley form. Mounts also feel bit boring because of how good Drakthyrs own flying is (small size compared to the flying mounts = flying feels faster and more nimble = fun to do tricks and fly near ground. I absolutely love the new flying style (even tho it could be so much more better with little effort)).
@Omili I for sure agree on the Dracthyr form and transmog. It does take away from the fun of transmog farming. Luckily with my Troll only the feet are affected. Although I still don't understand why Trolls can't where sandal type transmogs. Their feet are literally made for sandals .. lol. Dracthyr is certainly the most affected by this issue. Probably Worgen as well due to the wolf form. It will be interesting to see if they modify anything when they add new classes for Dracthyr. We know they are coming at some point later in The War Within, just not a certain time frame yet.
@haseo Thanks for the comment! Yeah and there are actually a lot of great changes with BM as well. Just time to do something fresh after 3 years maining the Hunter.
I used to enjoy SPRIEST or healer, but now that I'm getting older, I got less time and lost my young reflexes. What would you say are easy classes to play ? Mostly looking at class where you can focus more on the mecanics then APM rotation
Hey @IceWolve67 Thanks for the comment! That is a hard one to answer just because what may be easy for one person is difficult for another and vice versa. But the one I find easiest by far is BM Hunter just due to the mobility. I also find Destruction Warlock and Frost Mage to be easier than some of the others. Frost Mage has gotten more complex over time though and the spell cast timing is really crucial to good DPS. These are low APM so your not having to make split second decisions all of the time. But your mileage may vary. :D
You said that if you’re doing open world content that it doesn’t matter which spec you play. I disagree. If you want to solo farm elite rares having a pet to tank for you really helps. Choose hunter or warlock.
@mirandelf I would agree up to a certain iLvl of gear. But once you reach a good level you can pretty much solo the content. Early on when we are leveling or just starting to gear up, agree a class with a pet does make it easier.
I don’t think it’s clever now to chose you’re class. I mean what’s best now and at the start of TWW. One patch and you may regret you’re choice. Pick something that’s fun to you. Every Class is on a basic level viable. So do what you like
ITS SO SAD beeing older and older and have to concider high spaming classes not t play. its the same with me. when i was young i did never consider that
@derknusperhase_ivi Thanks for the comment! The reflexes do slow down a bit but you play to your strengths. For me, honestly it's not about age as much as it just becomes uncomfortable. I will age but absolutely refuse to grow old. 😁

@armagedoc66 Thanks for the comment! And sounds like a plan. I also plan on playing more characters this time around. Have not done that in a long time.
Prot warrior is a lot of apm but it’s spamming the same key to rage dump. Shield slam resets, maintain shield block ignore pain and dump rage on revenge. My favourite tank though.
@hibiscus779 If you want to tank. And with the recent tank nerfs (which are not being received well), no idea how that is going to affect the tank population levels.
It isn't that complicated. Whatever you main in DF will be your main in WW. The classes aren't much different and the "hero talents" are barely a blip on the radar. I haven't changed my main since Legion. Druids are the only answer.
@BearPawSwipe Thanks for the comment! Unless you need something different. Beast Mastery really has not changed much in play style over the last 3 years, thus I am switching to Warlock for something new. Hero talents seem to be a mixed bag. Some Specs get a little bit of mix in their rotation, others not so much.
At this point wow is a character creation simulator for me. I barely make it to level 25 on the panda remix bs without starting over again. Only a Dwarf DeathKnight made it to 70
@fizzbrew Thank for the comment and I get ya there. Sometimes I feel like playing and will start leveling a new character. Get to about level 30 and be like nah not this again ... lol.
It’s simple, you research what their tier raid set or mogs will look like that season and pick whatever looks the coolest.

@michellemcguire2174 Thanks for the comment. That is definitely my style of play as well!
I mained a Warlock in DF and will continue to main it in TWW. I will be playing a few other classes regularly though.
@Jayerei I just love to watch Chaos Bolt big booms! Lock is a really fun class to play.
@@TwoAngryFrogs Green fire is bis!
@@Jayerei
When the game comes out I'm going to wait and see if its fun to play the game as a solo player again, like it was in legion. And then i will probably main my ww monk and make a ret pally alt.
@KingDJ524 I played solo while testing on the Beta and there are definitely a lot of things for solo players. I think Delves will will be a great thing for solo players or even small groups of 2 to 3 people. It gives another option that is not Mythic+ and Raiding.
Stuck between retpally or elle shaman tough choices
@abusementpark153 I have not played a lot of Ele Shaman so do not know a ton about them. But the Ret Pally Hero talents are pretty cool from what I have played on Beta.
Well done video!
Thanks! @strouss3888 Appreciate the comment.
Excellent!
@ofbushido Thank you! Cheers!
Squirrel! haha
I've never been part of expansions before can you only pick one ?
@fredbridges4012 Nah you can play all 13 classes and all specs if you want. For high level Mythic+ and Raiding you typically pick a Main since that character is the one you will work on gear and other stuff to progress the raid bosses. But even at that we still play a lot of Alt characters on the side.
I like being useful in M+ so im playing resto shamman. I think they are the class with most utility
@ToastyPatchey I would agree. Between Shaman and Druid there is a ton of utility.
Know I’ll be playing arms/prot warrior.
@nofoxgiven6561 Nice! Arms another great cleave damage spec. Thanks for the comment.
Druid. Always. If one spec gets boring you are playing another one. Moonkin is like a Mage, Cat is like a Rogue, Resto is a Healer and Bear is a Tank.
@jbdh6510 Thanks for the comment. That is definitely a big reason people go for Druids. I know I will not heal or Tank in any advanced content, so I pretty much stick with DPS.
@@TwoAngryFrogs I play to casual and as a dps I will not find any group to do dungeons with. So I will heal or tank :D But I love also to play Rogues
The apm thing is very interesting. I find demo literally 10x more difficult than destro, and aff to be the easiest, yet they have roughly the same apm
I also find affliction the most complicated.
Can't figure it out at all haha. Feel like no spec truly speaks to me anymore which is sad. Can't find it so far in the beta at least
@alsius9162 There's always the random number generator ... :D. Seriously, I am sure you will figure it out by the time we launch.
Have my sub, this video is really good.
Choosen a warlock because of the class fantasy and relatively low APM.
@zraccen Thanks for the comment! I love the class fantasy as well. Have several warlocks but always go back to the Troll due to the look and feel.
What spec? I'm really drawn to the new demo set up
@@Frosty616. Planning on Destro. The Diabolist Hero Talents so far are pretty cool.
Survi is getting Super interesting and u leave hnter? 😢
I may have boomer hands but i won't let that stop me from playing prot and ret pally!!... so excited for war within
@andrewbarnett536 Haha I love it being a boomer myself. I played Prot Pally from Vanilla up to Mists. Great spec and a lot of fun to Tank with.
I walked into this video saying ''what an idiot, he can't solve this problem for me''. BUT, he did! lol surprised
@ConeyIslandKing Haha that is pretty funny 😂. Thanks for the comment and glad it helped!
It’s simple, let the wheel decide.
@XxFortreXGamingxX Spinning the wheel is definitely an option. 🙃
I don’t think it’s clever now to chose you’re class. I mean what’s best now and at the start of TWW. One patch and you may regret you’re choice. Pick something that’s fun to you. Every Class is on a basic level viable. So do what you like
@chris_d905 Absolutely agree with pick something you enjoy. It's a game so we should enjoy playing it.
@@TwoAngryFrogs can refuse how much u want honey boney there will come a time u cant even refuse it anymore. dont be scared by aging. its only a door to our lord and saviour jesus christ.
@@derknusperhase_ivi Nope. Not giving in ... lol. Spent 4 hours yesterday chainsawing and working on cleaning up some of our wooded areas. I stay really active on our land. Always something to do so keeps me moving all the time ... :D
Cant select a main... gonna go for a triple. DK, mage and priest
@armagedoc66 Thanks for the comment! And sounds like a plan. I also plan on playing more characters this time around. Have not done that in a long time.
Play them all is the correct answer
@rowdyrager-9403 That definitely makes choosing easy ... lol
I had no idea prot warrior and paladins had such high APM
Prot warrior is a lot of apm but it’s spamming the same key to rage dump. Shield slam resets, maintain shield block ignore pain and dump rage on revenge. My favourite tank though.
@Opposegaming I had an idea the Prot Paladin might be just from playing them but like you had no idea Prot Warrior was up there.
Because of off GCD abilities, its very misleading
@@zylle1993 But off GCD abilities and low GCD like with rogue directly leads to more button presses. So your APM is going to be higher.
pick whats meat or no high keys for you.
@hvdiv17 Really depends on what you define as high keys. I typically run up to +10. Mythic+ for me is more to support raiding. :D
Warrior is the only class😊
@NoBrainah Until you need a heal 😊
@@TwoAngryFrogs nah we just ignore pain we dont need heals, broken leg...just ignore it
@@callum105 Nice play on words there.
Simple. Play bear
@hibiscus779 If you want to tank. And with the recent tank nerfs (which are not being received well), no idea how that is going to affect the tank population levels.
Pick mage and you will always win.
@davidw.5984 If you like to play Mage 😁. I do now and then but do not really main it for very long.
I thought this video was gold.
@DonaldMurf Thanks! Much appreciated.
i mean its literally as simple as pick what you have the most fun playing thats it lol
@DouglasD7k You might be surprised how difficult that is for a lot of people. :D
Because we have so much fun with a lot of classes and specs 🤣
It isn't that complicated. Whatever you main in DF will be your main in WW. The classes aren't much different and the "hero talents" are barely a blip on the radar. I haven't changed my main since Legion. Druids are the only answer.
@BearPawSwipe Thanks for the comment! Unless you need something different. Beast Mastery really has not changed much in play style over the last 3 years, thus I am switching to Warlock for something new. Hero talents seem to be a mixed bag. Some Specs get a little bit of mix in their rotation, others not so much.
@@TwoAngryFrogs Warlock is a fun class and the new skins are pretty nice to collect so you'll have plenty to do.
@@BearPawSwipe Wrapping up our Destruction video and wow does that Spec play so much faster than it did in Dragonflight. It's actually a lot of fun.
@@TwoAngryFrogs Glad you are enjoying it.
Get to about level 30 and be like nah not this again ... lol.
