Happy Friday! Do you have smoke/fire alarms in your home, fire extinguishers? Happily no-one was hurt in the fire but it's been a stressful couple of days! Any nice weekend plans? I'll be swimming with my Copenhagen Bluetits Chillswimmers peeps and seeing my daughter, woo hoo! 👋🏼😍🎉
Another important thing is check your Insurance Coverage. We lost our home to a fire just over a year ago. Cost for rebuilding have gone up a lot in last few years. Most people don't have enough Structure Coverage anymore. We decided to buy rather than rebuild. Have been in the new house just since October. Because we lost so much there is not a lot to declutter. I am however being more aware of what I bring in new house. Daily Routines, Weekly Upkeep takes care of most of house. For self care 3 day weekend here in the States. I've a stack of books. Planning to spend some time on my porch and read.
05-24-2024 1. We had a birthday celebration lunch today for 3 of us with May birthdays. 2. I’m coming homemade beef and cabbage soup in the Crockpot for my husband. 3. I did some walking while shopping with our friends today. 4. It’s raining so our outside flowers are getting watered today. Lisa Anne Dupree 🙂🌻🦋
We have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on each floor of our home plus fire extinguishers in our garage, kitchen and by our outdoor grill. Diane, would you be willing to share some podcasts you enjoy in one of your Friday chats? Thank you and enjoy the weekend!
Two weeks ago we were called across the country for a family emergency. Within an hour I was packed for an indeterminate stay. All the clothes needed were clean. I unloaded the frig of all perishables in minutes because my frig was clean an organized. The car was packed in minutes because my car was tidy and full of gas. While away, both of us got sick but returned to the security and calm of a clean and tidy house to rest and recover. Thank you, Diane, for the years you have motivated me to achieve so many things including serenity and generosity.
My #1 tip for overwhelmed parents. Cut the inventory of toys and clothes WAY DOWN. Your laundry will be much easier. The tidy up time will be much faster. They will be much happier with fewer toys and a clear space to play.
I can feel that childhood trauma is still there. I am sorry. We all have our things that trigger us. But you are so great for doing what you doing with classes and competitions etc !!❤❤❤
I’m so glad to hear that there was no injury or loss of life in the fire, i hope your neighbors will be able to recoup and recover steadily. Facing some surgery, and not feeling too perky, I was really encouraged to hear your reminder of the most fundamental approach: just set the timer for 10 minutes, do what you can, and then don’t worry!
I love my 5 kids so much ❤ but I enjoy my time without them now that they have their own places. I am spending time with friends, going places on a whim, & doing less cooking 😊
I wanted to make a comment on how I thought it was refreshing that Diane said she didn't miss her kids, but didn't really know how. Not because I think there's something wrong with missing your kids but often because it's more stigmatized (at least in the US) to say you don't. I don't have kids and I do feel like some people's perception is that there is something wrong with me. I think it's nice to see a woman express how she feels unapologetically because missing your kids and not missing your kids are both perfectly fine and normal.
I'm glad to hear no one was hurt in the fire. When i was young, we lost everything in a fire, but thankfully, no lives lost. Im neurotic about checking our smoke alarms once a month. 💜
You were balm to the soul,Diane. I woke up after falling back to sleep with a severe charley horse. I jumped to my feet, then fell back on to a cup of coffee I had prepared previously, but forgot to drink. Needless, to say I have a load of laundry in and a mattress cleaned and airing. It got me off my bookie for sure.
I tend to do the big clean on Saturday and then declutter throughout the week. But I don’t clean again properly until the next Saturday. The big clean is definitely longer than 10 minutes per room but I’ve become so efficient at it that I’ve cut my time down. I’m even doing the ironing!
I'm 63 and had the same thing happen to me with the swimming ring when I was 3. Although I grew up on the Great Lakes and swam all the time, now being older I have a healthy respect for water and maybe still a bit of a fear when out on the open ocean. Good for you for taking classes to help overcome your fear!
Diane I got my husband to help me declutter in the bedroom this week and now he has so much more room in his closet and his chest of drawers! Yea! We simplified a bit. My self care will be to go out into the garden and take care of my struggling plants. And then I'll sit out on the porch with a cool drink and soak in the view. This is Memorial Day weekend in the U.S. where we decorate graves of fallen soldiers and family members. It's the sign of the beginning of summer to me.
I do love these end-of-the-week chats, Diane 🌞 So thankful your Swedish cabins were untouched by the fire and no one was hurt. I love the self-care missions offered by other subscribers this week. I live in NYC where there are "Free Friday" admissions to museums - I'm meeting a friend this evening to check out a new exhibition. This weekend the beaches open so I'll take my first sea swim of the season. 🌊 PS: You are brave to face and overcome your childhood fear so deliberately.
I love these cozy chats on Fridays! I’m going to connect with my plants this weekend. I’m also going to read more. I really enjoy reading! So glad everyone is ok after the fire!
Thank you always for your Inspiration, glad no damage to your home in Sweden. Meeting some friends soon to discuss starting a swop party in Guernsey where I currently live , I will keep you posted ! Happy weekend Diane 🎉
So glad you're back for a cozy chat! I love hearing about life in Denmark, it seems so different to where I am in Australia. Im glad no one was hurt in the fire. This week I will cook some home made soup. It's winter here and there is nothing like warm home made soup on a cold day 😊
Sorry about your neighbors’ home. Glad there was no loss of life. Self care # 1 works perfectly for me this week. My friend and I are going to a library music program on Tuesday and then out for coffee. I always try to do all of your self care missions if I can. Thank you for the ideas and the motivation.
When I read about the fire I dashed over to watch the video and am so relieved to know that everyone was okay and that your home was not touched by it. You have said so often we should stick to our morning and evening routines when life goes kittywampus. It is so true! And it does keep us going. I think this week I'm going to pamper myself by spending a little time on my nails. They need it, and I need it too. Happy weekend, everyone!
Hello lovely lady loved the cosy chat today thankyou so glad your summer house was OK hope you neighbours can fix the damage to theirs my self care will be coffee with a lady who I pass when out walking looking forward to seeing your summer house again take care ❤
I grow vegetables in containers on my deck. It is thrilling to gather vegetables and bring them in to eat. Growing your own food (even in small amounts) never gets old
A great reminder to check fire alarms at home. Also, especially if you have kids in the house, talking to them about what to do if there is a fire and what escape routes there are. (It can be done in a fun/quizzy unscary way). Glad all was well, Diane. I'm going to focus on nourishment this week as my husband is convalescing. It easy to forget to eat properly at busy times. X
Hi, Diane! So glad no one was hurt in the fire and your neighbors are safe!❤ I'm going to work with my indoor and outdoor plants, cook something healthy, and change my exercise up. I watched your video while I was on the treadmill. I'm a widow, so I listen to audio books while eating meals, cleaning, exercising and doing laundry. i have had retina problems for 10+ years and have a blind spot that makes reading much slower for me than it used to be. Audio books have literally saved me. I've gone from an avid reader to an avid listener. Love audio books!🎉 Love your channel and your openness with us!❤ Rah, rah, rah!😊
Very glad you and your weekend home are safe and happy your neighbour also safe, homes and furnishings can be replaced. Our weather is a little better today. After an extremely mild winter, o snow and above zero temperatures May has been well below normal, COLD but today we worked in the garden and arranged the furniture. This is my daily selfcare-gardening. I have managed to declutter all the rooms except my workroom in the basement. I have so many craft items that I need help with, what to donate and what to keep. It is making my head ache but I keep plodding. Also, photographs how do I decide on the boxes from over the hears and the greeting cards. I am not a hoarder. i hate clutter but I am sentimental and highly sensitive. Anyone else have this problem?
Hi Diane so glad to see you back missed you.Glad to hear your neighbors fire didn't spread to your house or property.Wet mopped the floor and did laundry this morning. If you didn't use it at this house you probably won't use it there. When we moved last year I decluttered so much stuff.I didn't miss a thing.I feel like less is more. Loved the video.I never learned to swim wish I would have but I was always afraid of the water. G ood for you Diane. Have a great weekend.
I have been a dedicated reader all my life, working as a school librarian for thirty years and now as a book seller for BN. I read whenever I eat, before I go to sleep, and whenever I can. I don't tend to watch tv much or do social media.
So glad that no one was hurt in the fire, Diane, and that your cabin was unharmed. Such a tragic thing to lose a home to fire. It happened to a neighbor down the street from me this week. Awful. Thank you for that very sound reminder about smoke detectors, etc. My husband and I have been remiss in that area. Checking smoke detectors may become part of self-care this week! Also, planting flowers in the different flower garden areas around our house. I enjoy the whole process of choosing flowers, planting them, caring for them and taking in their beauty. 💙💙
Nothing brightens my day like a video of you! Thank you so much for the Friday videos, it's so inspiring and brings a nice upbeat end to my busy week. Very glad to hear that bo one was hurt and that your cabin do not have any damage. Enjoy your weeked !
Hi Diane. Love your videos. My self-care this weekend is to head off with my husband in our campervan. This year I decided we would have one weekend away every month. Head off out of the suburbs to somewhere near water and nature, with no agenda, no productivity goals, no chores. We sleep so soundly in our van and always have a slow breakfast and a bushwalk. I strongly recommend a day without chores or responsibilities, a day of joy and just being.
So glad your Swedish summer home was spared any damage and glad your neighbors were safe and sound. For my self-care this week, I'll be scheduling a get together with a friend for a walk and trying new recipes with vegetables from my farm share. We got rhubarb this week, so I am looking forward to finding a new recipe. Thank you for your inspiration and positive energy! I look forward to your videos so much. Thank you for being you!
Hello Diane 😊 I also read before sleeping in bed while listening to some relaxing music. While I am cleaning, doing the laundry, cooking.... I listen to an Audio book ❤ so I am looking forward to clean because I can hear some cozy story😅
I will prepare something for myself that is typical for summer, probably a nice salad. Thank you for your motivation! I managed to bring a car load of decluttered items to the Sozialkaufhaus this week and last week I sent three big boxes of books to rebuy. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter! 🤗
Great to see you and hear your kind encouragement. I'm living minimally right now because we're moving and have packed everything. I am dreading the day we move into our new place and start unpacking. I am LOVING the quick and easy cleaning. I'm going to try to maintain the minimalism. I do need to work on my self-care. I have four little ones and we are homeschooling so it just never ends around here.
I'm so thankful that your Swedish neighbor is safe, and that your cottage was unharmed! I also share a childhood trauma from a very similar incident, and you're inspiring me to find a Fear of Water class. I currently take water exercise classes but won't get in water that's over my head. I love your positive attitude and gentle encouragement 🤩🥰 Have a safe and fun weekend!
I love the warmer weather. I have a cup of tea outside and touch and enjoy my herbs and plants So glad your Swedish home was saved and no one was injured.
I want to get back into running and swimming again. Somehow the amount of exercise I do daily has gone down this year. It’s easy to get into the routine of not doing things. When I wanted to get back into reading I found I was easily distracted. Putting a timer on to read for 15 minutes helped me to start reading novels again.
Eventful month is what I am having. Taking care of my 92 year old mom (she lives in a continuing care community 30 miles away, but better than 500 miles), multiple doctor appointments, social engagements, husband had a hip replacement with daily washing of all his sheet, towel, clothes. We spent January-April 30 in our winter home. Still putting things away, all the laundry, doing yard and garden care. We had to replace our hot water heater, heating and air conditioning system, and our garage door system. I am feeling so overwhelmed and exhausted, in my 70s.
One day at a time and just 5 or 10 minutes of daily living at a time. That is all you have to do. Enjoy each day and be thankful you have family still with you even though the days are long and tiring. Take time for self care for yourself - this is essential. ❤ from Australia
Glad to hear no one was hurt and that your property was ok. Prayers for all! Starting a new knitting project with some summery cool colors to lighten the recent blahs. 😁
Oh my goodness, i’m glad to hear that no one hurt in the fire and your house cabin is unharmed. It’s very brave of you to take that class to overcome your childhood fear of water. I think you’re a brave woman. Still after 5 months struggle with my back and cannot walk good anymore. But i can sit since 5 weeks so i will have a cup of tea in the yard and let the children fight with each other (hopefully they will not hurt) to try it will have an effect on the day and isn’t a negative atmosphere.
I'm glad no one was hurt during the house fire and happy that your summer house is fine. My self care has, for some time, been going through my quilting supplies. I declutter what I am not going to use (donations to a local quilt guild- they make charity quilts) and then have fun planning what I will make with the fabric I'm keeping. The planning is the most creative part of the craft. FYI-cozy crimes: I'm really enjoying the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley.
Hi Diane. Sorry I'm late on my comment. I'm so sorry for what has happened to your neighbours but very happy to hear no one was injured and that your place is safe. Trying to get some self-care but it's being a bit of a challenge this week as I'm not feeling it. I've got to learn how to deal with some very emotional stuff. New week tomorrow, let's see what it brings. Take care xx
I've just taken on an allotment. So my self care has been preparing the ground for planting. Which has incorporated exercise, outdoor living and socializing all together. I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to my harvest later in the year. I also make my bread daily and cook everything from scratch. This I've only been able to do since following the Flylady schedules. I'm loving life now the struggles and confusion us behind me. ❤
Very well, thank you. I've treated myself to a Japanese Maple today. Something I've always wanted. It's made me very happy. I how your day has been a wonderful one.
I can't really say I have a favourite flower. I admire many, although I do particularly enjoy a flower with a scent. Colour would be a strong, deep purple. And music, much like flowers , I enjoy a wide range of different genres. From African drums to Country. How long have you been following Diane?
Very thankful that although there was a fire there was no loss of life -- I'll be thinking of your neighbors in Sweden and hoping they feel worldwide support (via your channel!) as they recover from this unexpected event. Thinking of you, Diane, and hoping you feel encouraged in special ways. My self care mission is #4 -- and maybe #1 with my #2 kiddo as it's her 21st bday this week! 😊🫶🏼🩷🌷🌸
How frightening, just the thought of fire. Glad no one was hurt. I’m off to the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle today. Sometimes I sit for ages just looking at some of the paintings there. Decluttered for a short while in my sewing room yesterday. Needs more attention! Thanks, Diane, for all you do to inspire us all here ❤
Hi Diane. So thankful to hear everyone is safe and sound. I had new smoke detectors and CO2 monitors installed last fall as ours were 30 years old! It is so important to not forget about CO2 monitors, and the newer units have both combined at an affordable price. This week I will be shopping for flowers and shrubs. Can’t wait to look, touch, smell! Thanks for your wonderful videos. Hubby and I are currently watching “Magpie Murders” after your recommendation and thoroughly enjoying it.
I'm going to meet up with a friend for lunch that I haven't seen for many years. I'm also going to collect some herbs and cook with them. I'm also going to my son's home and exercising in his pool. Thanks for the video. In glad your summer home was not touched and everyone was safe.
Hi Diane, I’m so happy that everything turned out ok at your cabin! I totally understand the fear of water. I’m so proud of you for working on your fear. I never learned to swim, but I push myself to kayak on calm lakes. I tried out my life vest to prove to myself that it will keep me safe! I’m visiting my son and his family this weekend. That’s my self care! Enjoy your weekend!
Good news that no one was hurt in the fire! I’m glad your cottage is okay! Thanks for the idea to Declutter shoes. Several pair were discarded in the trash this week as they were too worn to pass on. It’s easier to find the ones I wear regularly. Choosing mission #4 Thank you, Diane, for sharing your positive attitudes and real life with us!
❤ thank you for inspiring us to read! I am from the Netherlands and we learn to swim very young but to respect wild places like the sea. In april our family saw someone being swept out on Tenerife. My children understood only then why i told them to stay close to the shore. Water is great but we need to learn how to stay safe to enjoy it to the fullest. ❤
Happy weekend Diane and everyone here! My tip for reading when I worked: bring the book and read at least a few minutes at lunch. If the book is really good, it will encourage you to read a few more minutes before bed. My selfcare: two neighbor women and I go out to lunch once a month. We take turns picking a new place each time. We hadn’t known each other well before but now all retired and one recently widowed are getting to know each other, despite a 12-yr age span.
So glad everyone is okay. For my self care, I'll be doing number 4, repotting and dead heading plants on my front porch and back deck, maybe pick up some herbs at the nursery. Thank you for all your sunny commentary and encouragement.
I love to read just before bedtime. Relaxes me and relieves me of my thoughts and helps me go to sleep. I also listen to audible books every day, while doing things around the home or even travelling on public transport.
I love my timer! It's in the shape of a chicken, and I got it at an antique store. I set it for an hour several times a day to keep myself moving forward on my business and home tasks. It's motivating, somehow, to hear the timer go off, get up and stretch, walk around, get a cup of tea or a snack.
Very happy everyone is safe. Thank you for the reminder to check fire and smoke alarms. For self care I scheduled hair cut appointments for my bestie and myself followed by coffee and chatting.
Good morning, Diane! So many thoughts came to me during this fun video ❤ I won't list them all, lol. So thankful nobody was hurt in the fire. Focusing on garden and exercise. I love my herbs, even those I rarely use. Their shapes, flowers, colors, and scents just lift my heart. I also read every day... if I don't, it's a warning to me that depression has sneaked up on me! Tells me to get off my bahookie and take care of myself! Enjoy your weekend. Thank you for all you do 🥰🖖
I so look forward to these Friday chats! It was good to hear your empty nest story because I feel the same way. Love the kids as adults now and love doing things with them. However, I am also loving my home with just hubby and I. It's a beautiful time of life!❤
Been a bit melancholy this week re my late hubby. Going to get out into the garden, very healing for me, although since moving in the garden was and is virtually non existant, as all plants were taken out by previous owners i think. So starting from scratch. A new beginning. Thank you so much Diane for your continued encouragement, your so uplifting. 🎉🎉🎉
I was thrilled to see your video! Your videos help me mentally more than my home. I’m thankful to hear all is well with your summer home. My self care mission is working in my flower garden this weekend and enjoying an iced coffee on my porch swing. I’m off to finish my 10 minutes in my bedroom for the week. Have a nice weekend!
Glad that no one was injured in the fire. Your cottage looks lovely, like something out of a fairy tale. The fire department in our area puts out a reminder for everyone to check the smoke detectors every spring and fall when the clocks change. My daughter-in-law and granddaughter who live out of town had hospital appointments all week in this area and stayed with us, as a result I didn't get the opportunity to declutter. I did give my daughter-in-law a few samples of skin care that I had received. I did manage to do my WHB and DR, also lots of LOL'S but nothing extra. Love the Friday chats as well as the other videos. I wish I had Sue near me as I also had a frightening experience as a child and do not like to put my face in the water. You are so brave to do that. Have a great weekend to everyone.
It's interesting about the adult kids. While we were raising them, we really made an effort to do things with them (things they wanted to do, not just us going to places and carrying them along). We hiked, camped, kayaked, gardened, cooked, schooled, travelled... And although it would be lovely to live near them, I think I will be all right if they don't. A great reason to take a long weekend. Now that my husband has passed away, I make an effort to do things with them as adult children. I find that a lot of my friends don't carry on that engagement through the teens and on into adulthood, because, well, it's hard! They can look right at you and say NO 😄! But I do think it's worth the effort. Thanks again Diane for everything you do!🥰🥰🥰
I get talking book CD's from my library and listen to them in the car when I'm out and about. I've listened to books that I never would have picked up as hard copies or read on my Kindle. I've listened to some really great stories and all for free in what would other be just boring drive time.
Thank you I always like to see what you are up too! I am having self care by picking flowers even in my gardens. I love being out side while the dew is still on.
I, too, was a very small girl and fell under/through a bunk bed guard rail. It just dawned on me that it caused a lot of falling nightmares for a few years following. I know we have to figure out how to fir in the world, haha.

Our tropical house is on stilts with a wooden floor - just one plank thick - you would want to get out pretty quickly in a fire.
We have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on each floor of our home plus fire extinguishers in our garage, kitchen and by our outdoor grill. Diane, would you be willing to share some podcasts you enjoy in one of your Friday chats? Thank you and enjoy the weekend!

I am setting down to watch Diane.
Diane “ Go finish your morning chores…”
Me “ Fine, will fold laundry, but you are coming with me:)))”
My #1 tip for overwhelmed parents. Cut the inventory of toys and clothes WAY DOWN. Your laundry will be much easier. The tidy up time will be much faster. They will be much happier with fewer toys and a clear space to play.
So happy to have you back!

I had lunch with a friend today, and browsed through a shop. This weekend I will repot some plants and plant some herbs.
Thank goodness you're back, you were missed!!!

27:04 I just bought pots of parsley, mint, and basil. I already had sage, chives, and lavender. Our lilacs are blooming which smell so wonderful.

Clicked so fast. I missed you. So happy the fire was not too bad.
I am going for a hike I the bush with a hiking group. It is so refreshing to be with nature.
Thanks for reminding me to get that LOL going! I can get off routine and forget when some items have to soak for a while first.
Sounds great. Will suggest that to hubby as well! 😊
Hello Diane, happy to see your video. For selfcare i choose the gardening. Little project bring al lot of joy and forfillment.
I love the connotation of Thursday being “little Friday” ❤
Glad no one was injured in the fire. Your summer home looks so cute and cozy! ❤❤❤
Oh goodness, so glad you and everyone else was ok after the fire. That’s scary. I’m trying super hard to read every day. It does heal your brain!!! X
I do love Friday time with you. I am glad that your neighbors were not hurt and your cabin is secure. That is incredibly stressful!
I like the longer videos on friday with the selfcare missions. I am trying to get enough sleep on the weekend. Last week was busy.
I'm so glad your swedish house is ok! My self care for the week was adding 10 minutes of yoga to my morning routine😊
Diane, you are a breath of fresh air!! 😊 I am planting and caring for my herbs. Delightful! ❤
I love the warmer weather. I have a cup of tea outside and touch and enjoy my herbs and plants
So glad your Swedish home was saved and no one was injured.
I'm glad everyone is ok!
Here, we've redone our bathroom. It's so nice to have it completely decluttered. We're giving it a fresh start!
I will be taking care of my many houseplants. I have been switching to natural cleaning products.
Thank you Diane.
Good on you for addressing this fear Diane. You are a great role model for your kids as well as the rest of us 😊
#4 all the way!!
Normally on my allotment or in the kitchen. Two of my favourite pastimes. It also helps to feed the family.
So glad no one was hurt in the fire.
You're brave! I think kayaking looks so nice & peaceful, but I can't swim, so I'm afraid to try it!!!
@@tonicarey971 not that brave! I only kayak where I can see the shore on both sides! I also have a 12ft kayak that feels really stable!
I appreciate you telling how you fit reading into your day.
Good news that no one was hurt in the fire! I’m glad your cottage is okay!
Thanks for the idea to Declutter shoes. Several pair were discarded in the trash this week as they were too worn to pass on. It’s easier to find the ones I wear regularly.
Choosing mission #4
Thank you, Diane, for sharing your positive attitudes and real life with us!
Bless you for your kindness and patience in answering the question about leftover swap stuff again and again and AGAIN.
Timers are life savers. I’m adding a dip in the pool for my self care plus having a jump on the rebounder.
I love these chatty videos. I was running laundry and cleaning while listening, so thank you for sharing your stories. They are great company! 🥰
Thank you for all you do 🥰🖖
Love your style! This outfit with matching blue on top and bottom is 🔥
I always enjoy your enthusiasm and your topics you present to us. Cheers, from Australia
I so look forward to these Friday chats! It was good to hear your empty nest story because I feel the same way. Love the kids as adults now and love doing things with them. However, I am also loving my home with just hubby and I. It's a beautiful time of life!❤
I like the question and answer - often the questions are things I am wondering
Been a bit melancholy this week re my late hubby. Going to get out into the garden, very healing for me, although since moving in the garden was and is virtually non existant, as all plants were taken out by previous owners i think. So starting from scratch. A new beginning.
Thank you so much Diane for your continued encouragement, your so uplifting. 🎉🎉🎉
Folded laundry and started the next load, made the bed, and put away dishes. Now I’ve lit a candle and will read for a bit until the laundry is done.
It was generous of you to share the fears you are working on. Your kindness comes through in your videos.
Thanks again Diane for everything you do!🥰🥰🥰
I'm so impressed with your work on overcoming your fear! It's such a testament to overcoming obstacles!
You kept me company as I recovered the house this Saturday morning!❤
Happy to see you, Diane! I've missed your longer videos!
Nice to see you too, Emily - hope you have some nice plans for the weekend!
I, too, was a very small girl and fell under/through a bunk bed guard rail. It just dawned on me that it caused a lot of falling nightmares for a few years following. I know we have to figure out how to fir in the world, haha.
